(Christmas) Lights, Decorations, Action…..A Post-Christmas PTR (update 12/22-page 42)

I get what you are saying about your oldest....my step-son joined after his Jr year in High School and attend Delayed Entry meetings throughout his Sr year and left for boot camp (in Orlando ) shortly after graduation. During his Sr year he would tell everyone he was "in the Navy" not that he was "joining the Navy" - so I guess I just enlisted your son a little early ;)

For boot camp graduation we took our 2nd Disney trip (our first being our honeymoon), Steve (my stepson) brought along 2 of his fellow Navy boot camp grads; along with my younger step-son and our oldest son who was about 2 years old at the time. It was a good trip. I understand boot camp is no longer done there anymore....or maybe its only for female recruits

And thanks for the welcome. I wasn't sure if you would let me in or not :rolleyes1 :flower3:
Just a matter of semantics on the Navy thing I guess. After all, he did do a tour last summer ('09) on an aircraft carrier in the Middle East, and this past summer ('10) on a sub out of the Seattle area, so I guess he is "in." However, he could potentially still turn down his commission when he graduates next May, but he would have to pay back a whole lot of $$ they have plunked down on his education!

Wow, boot camp in Orlando? That wasn't when the 20,000 Leagues ride was still operating at the MK was it? :lmao:

And of course you are Welcome! I'm not as popular as Glenn, so beggars can't be choosers! ;)
I agree with you. As much as I didn't want to see Dad go, I also knew that he wasn't living life the way he would want to and I knew he was no longer in pain.

I'm anxious to see your pics of AKL...I really want to get there...hopefully next year.

If you want to see my review of Yak & Yeti--with pics--let me know and I'll post the link for you.
I plan to start doing some frequent PTR updates now and get this report rolling, so you should be seeing AKL pics real soon! I have probably more of Kidani though. I was going to blend some from our previous New Years trip with some of our trip last summer from our stay at Kidani, when we were there along with Glenn. I'm still not 100% on Yak & Yeti since the ADR there is 15 minutes before AK closes, and the one at Boma is a little while after the park closes. Since we will only be there a short time, DSs may not want to give up even 15 minutes of their opportunity to ride EE! :rotfl: I will leave it up to them, especially DS21 since it may be his last trip for a while. Love to see your review though. It might help them make the decision. :thumbsup2

Actually - yeah......at least the flags for the entrance were still there because we were asking the guys if they could read them. They were the flags with symbols on them......the word "semaphore" comes to mind but don't know if that's correct:confused:

And of course you are Welcome! I'm not as popular as Glenn, so beggars can't be choosers! ;)

Thanks!!:cool1: uh....wait......:headache:

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed the reviews, and got more than I bargained for! LeCellier - not sure which of the steaks to go for. They all look and sound really good! :cool1: Maybe I'll get everyone to order something different and we can all share. :rotfl2:

Yak & Yeti sounds really good too! I had heard good things about the Steak and Shrimp, and the Duck from others, and both sound really good! It seems like there were some other items on their menu too that sounded very good and worth a try! Maybe another variety and share meal!!! ;)

Sorry you had a bad experience at WCC. I'll be on the lookout for parts of the meal being cold and I won't hesitate to send anything like that back! :rolleyes1 I can imagine the cole slaw being not so great. I have had cole slaw at numerous places, and most of them don't know how to fix it.....at least the way I like it. Hopefully we will be there on a better night. I really wanted to do this one more for the trip to WL to enjoy the Christmas decorations! I've seen good and bad reports on the food, so hopefully we will get lucky! :confused3

Have you done Cape May for dinner? Since we are probably going to do the DDP for the first time this trip, me wanting to get the most bang for the DDP buck I avoided the breakfast use for our TS meals. Also, I saw your report on Mama Melrose and the lack of places to go in DHS. Have you tried 50s Prime Time? That is one of our favorites!

Ah, Tanya you ninja posted me!!! Of coure you'll probably whine to Glenn it was my fault! :rotfl:

Yes, semaphore is correct. I think you even got the spelling right, but not 100% sure on that one! :thumbsup2
Thanks!!:cool1: uh....wait......:headache:
Pay Back is, well......... pretty wonderful!!! :lmao:

We've done Cape May twice for dinner. The first time it was excellent, the second time it was good, not excellent. We've not been since they put the crab legs back on the menu (and I love crab legs). There is a good variety for everyone, and the desserts are plentiful. We've not done 50s Prime Time since the boys were both with us and that was back in 2000 (I can't believe our 22 year old has not been there for 10 years); we always enjoyed our meals there. We're not doing a sit down at the Studios this year; if we had, we were going to go back there so I'll definitely keep it on the list for next year (we also like Sci-Fi a lot--especially the shakes and onion rings; Mama Melrose usually never lets us down--I think that last trip was a fluke because we were all so tired).

Okay, I guess it's time to get this PTR on the move again! Only 10 more days until we can do the double digit dance. I guess it is sad when it has been so long since you made an update that you have to read through your own PTR to remember what you've said already! :rotfl2: Not only that but there have been three birthdays celebrated since presenting the cast of characters on the front page. Does that mean a different group is going on the trip now?

Anyway, the best way I know to do this is use pictures from our last two trips and try to piece together our plans for our upcoming New Year's trip. If nothing else, that allows me to share parts of the last two trips that I sadly (or maybe some of you will say gladly  ) never did a TR on! :sad2:

We did a trip over New Years a couple years ago. I already said it started out to be a relaxing trip to enjoy the holiday season, but ended up being another commando run through the parks when we decided to take DS13s BFF with us on the trip. I can't believe how few actual holiday themed pictures I got on that trip until I was looking back at what I had to share with everyone. That is definitely one thing I plan to rectify on this trip!

Our destination was the Animal Kingdom Lodge, where we had a two-bedroom villa booked for our stay. Here are some pics from that trip, and also a previous trip.

Next up, more pictures of our last New Years trip.

If you get a chance you should try to spend an afternoon at Epcot visiting the different country's Santas. DH & I and another couple went last December for a Christmas decoration trip and that was my goal. I saw most of them. DH & his buddy weren't that interested so they went to the front of the park and rode rides while us girls watched the different Santas. Each one wears the traditional costume and tells their fable. I think each one lasts about 10 minutes or so. The problem is they are throughout the afternoon so you kind of have to bounce back and forth around the lake to see them all.....which is how I missed a couple :confused3

Lovely pictures Marv!:thumbsup2

I'm glad to see this moving again. We're still thinking about a trip next year for New Years.

I wanted to comment on Cape May's. We had dinner there in Feb for the first time and really enjoyed it. Of course we love crab legs and that's mostly what we ate. Although the boiled shrimp was good too. I would do it again.

Nice job, Marv. Your pictures just made me want to stay at AKL even more. That lobby just takes my breath away every time I see it.

Thanks Tanya! I had seen some info about the Santa's, but need to try and find more info. Definitely looks like something we would want to try and catch if we can! This is the kind of things I hope to spend most of our time doing on this trip!
Lovely pictures Marv!:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info about Cape May's. Sounds like we are going to enjoy it! I have heard a lot of comments about them adding crab legs back to the buffet. I wonder if they will hold them out over the Christmas holidays, or just go up on price like most Disney restaurants do over the holidays??? :confused3
zero judys

now its time for my smiley man cabbage patch dance.

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
Very nice! One point for each woohoo, and another 41 for the correct answer on Judys! That's a grand total of 50! BTW, Glenn doesn't have any yet! ;)

Glad you liked them. I posted those just for you! I can't believe I never took the opportunity to take any pictures of the lobby while the Christmas tree and decorations were still up!!! I'm gonna try to fix that this time around! :thumbsup2

Beautiful pictures! One day I will get to stay there. Not sure when but one of these days for sure!

I've heard only good things about the Cape May dinner. We did the breakfast this past trip and really enjoyed it.

too funny about the changing ages/bdays of the characters. I am usually at least 2 weeks behind on changing kids ages in my siggie, often more.

Dan did you get lost somewhere?
nope i figured i never get any points on glenns, so i thought i would start here.:thumbsup2

sweet thanks....im way out in the lead now.

well unfortunatly it looks like glenn wont be able to play.

according to the judy sighting rules over HERE...they are as follows.

#1. Find judys
#2. No votes allowed by DISers with the screen name starting with a "G" and ending in "bo"
#3. there are no other rules.
:rolleyes1

Hi, Marv. Just wanted to say good morning of my short week at the office -- I'm going to Disney on Friday. :woohoo:

One reason for the Cape May dinner is to get some good pictures of all the decorations at BC and the other Epcot resorts. The more positive I hear about the dinner buffet, the more excited I am getting about eating there!

I was really good about updating my Siggie with the age changes, but what do you do about PTRs? Update the first post, or just recap later in the PTR....especially when you let it sit idle for so long? :confused3

You know he is going to call you on a technicality don't you? He will say his screen name doesn't end in "bo" but in "123." :rolleyes1 Won't do him much good to appeal to the rules committee though; that doesn't ever work for us! :rotfl2:

Oh sure Kathy, rub it in, rub it in!!! I'm excited for you that your time is so close, and hope you have a wonderful trip! :dance3: Don't forget to make that toast Friday for my 27th! :woohoo:

i already have the rebuttal, it will be rule number 4

#4. screen name means only letters, numbers are not in names, hence numbers such as "123" do not count.
Example (glennbo123) this screen name starts with "g" and ends in "bo" the "123" get dropped.
