We Need Jesus/Petra

Verse 1:
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
If we open our eyes
We will all realize
That He loves us
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
When our hearts are as one
And believe that He's the Son of our God

Chorus:
The Lord is our God
And we shall never want
The Lord is our God
And we shall live forever
When we share the love of Jesus
See each other as He sees us
The His love will see us through
His love will see us through

Verse 2:
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
When sister and brother
Love one another as one
When will the world
See that we need Jesus?
Will we ever understand
Jesus is the Son of man?
We must live in the shadow of His love

Morning everyone!

The Love I Know/PFR

He painted 'I love you' on the bridge
Then watched them burn
She bet all she had upon the love
Now she's holding her cards And lost her turn

Two hearts in search of wholeness
Both willing to risk it all
Could true love have fled so easily
Leaving both broken from the fall

Not the love I know
It knows no boundaries keeps no record of wrongs
That's the love I know
It takes the good with the bad and it fights to stay strong
That's the love I know
This love always finds a way to carry on
That's the love I know

He sits all alone and stares into an empty sky
She goes through all her mixed emotions trying to find a reason why
Was their pride to big to swallow was their hurt to deep to heal
Could they find some understanding
Find forgiveness that's real

That's the love I know
It speaks in kindness it seeks only whats true
That's the love I know
A love without condition, it looks to renew
That's the love I know
It knows that when hope seems gone hope will come through
That's the love I know

The love I know comes from a Holy God to man
Isn't it time that you received it
Are you starting to understand
The love I know

That's the love I know
It knows no boundaries keeps no record of wrongs
That's the love I know
It takes the good with the bad and it fights to stay strong
That's the love I know
This love always finds a way to carry on
That's the love I know

Good Morning Everyone!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :)

princess: Sis, I love that song!

Sheree', I hope you guys have a wonderful and a safe trip! ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I'm Speechless/Avalon

Some can write a sonnet
To describe in silvery words
The rising and the setting of the sun
Some can paint a picture
In shades of vibrant color
It almost looks like heaven when they're done
Lord, when I try to speak from my heart
I don't know where to start
When it comes to You I'm speechless
Nothing holds a candle to the wonder of Your love
I'm amazed by Your grace
Your forgiving embrace
And I'm finding words could never be enough
I'm speechless
I've tried to write the song
I've searched my heart for phrases
But they only catch a glimpse of all You are
If I lived a thousand lifetimes
I'd never come close to saying
Enough about the hope that I found in Your arms
'Cause when I try to speak from my heart
I don't know where to start

Can't Live A Day/Avalon

I could live life alone
And never feel the longings of my heart
The healing warmth of someone's arms
And I could live without dreams
And never know the thrill of what could be
With every star so far and out of reach
I could live with many things
And I could carry, but...I couldn't face my life tomorrow
I can't live a day without You
Lord, there's no night and there's now morning
Without Your loving arms to hold me
You're the heartbeat of all I do
I can't live a day without You
I could travel the world
See all the wonders beautiful to me
They'd only make me think of You
And I could have all life offers
Riches that were far beyond compare
To grant my wish without a care
Oh, I could do anything
And I could carry on, oh yes
But if you weren't in at all...
Jesus, I live because You live
You're like the air I breathe
Oh Jesus, oh, I have because You give
You're everything to me Oh...

hi all and happy sunday!

dw and i were having a discussion about christian music and the mediocrity thereof, with very few exceptions the music being produced today fails to match up to the quality of what i grew up with, keaggy, crouch, gaither, holm, francisco, girard, norman, green, et al. where are the young artists to match these giants of the artform? is there a market for their ilk today?

dw said that the music that she and i found so inspiring is not appreciated today by the audience out there. i might add that what inspires the two of us doesn't always line up. she is not quite the rock afficianado that i am, leans more to the pop side of the spectrum. but i guess she may be right; the audience today seems to be more interested in disposable music than immortal music. i think that this cuts across secular music as well, as what passes for top 40 these days on the radio hardly matches the top 40 from as recently as the early 90's. i suppose this somehting of a rant, but i am also curious: would audiences today support the type of music that typified the jesus movement, and on the flip side is there any music of that era that younger audiences today would appreciate? just wondering.

Been listening to this one since 7am... it is so touching.

Another rainy day
I can't recall having sunshine on my face
All I feel is pain
All I wanna do is walk out of this place
But when I am stuck and I can't move
When I don't know what I should do
When I wonder if I'll ever make it through

I gotta keep singing
I gotta keep praising Your name
Your the one that's keeping my heart beating
I gotta keep singing
I gotta keep praising Your name
That's the only way that I'll find healing

Can I climb up in Your lap
I don't wanna leave
Jesus sing over me
I gotta keep singing

Can I climb up in Your lap
I don't wanna leave
Jesus sing over me
I gotta keep singing

Oh You're everything I need
And I gotta keep singing

It's been one of those days
When everything just feels so far away
Hope don't be a stranger
Won't you help me make it through today?

Then a voice comes calling out to me
You're never alone cause I am with you
And I will always be
I will hold you cause you belong to me
You're never alone cause I'll be with you
For all eternity

Someone tell me how I
Stumble into doubting all the time
Some days I'm all together
And other days I stand here asking why

Then a voice comes calling out to me
You're never alone cause I am with you
And I will always be
I will hold you cause you belong to me
You're never alone cause I'll be with you
For all eternity

Then a voice comes calling out to me
You're never alone cause I am with you
And I will always be
I will hold you cause you belong to me
You're never alone cause I'll be with you
For all eternity

Very Interesting question Phil! I'm only 26 but the musicians that you listed, among others are the ones I grew up listening to. Most people my age and some a little older than me don't have a clue who they even are! I was actually thinking about this when you posted last Sunday and even said so in my post that I lost and didn't feel like re-typing, anyway, I said that I couldn't think of a single Christian Rock group out there right now that could compare in any way to the ones that were around in the beginning of Contemporary Christian Music. Sure, Petra is still around but even they changed their sound/lyrics trying to fit into today's market and in my opinion failed miserably! Bob Hartman is back on board with them now and their latest album Jekyll & Hyde is supposed to be more like the old style of Petra, I hope so! It seems like "teen pop" and Praise & Worship music are the big things in CCM right now. For about 2 years you were hard pressed to find anything else. Everyone, even people who haven't had albums out in years were putting out a praise and worship album hoping to get some exposure I think, one that comes to mind is Sheila Walsh but there were others as well. I will apologize now to Fur because I'm sure she is tired of my ranting and raving about not being able to find any "regular" Christian Music because everyone and their Aunt's Uncle's Mother's Cousin were putting out a praise and worship album. Don't get me wrong, I love p&w music but where is the originality, do we need 5 billion different people putting out albums with the same songs on them? It seems like the generation of music that started it all is pretty much dead and buried. Radio stations don't play it, you can't find it in the Christian book stores and when you do find it you most likely already have it! Now, as for artists that are putting out music that has strong lyrics, there isn't really anyone who is comparible to the ones you listed because the style is different but Steven Curtis Chapman (who really isn't new but still going strong!), 4HIM (also not that new), Avalon, Chris Rice (very introspective lyrics there!), even though we won't be hearing any new music from Rich Mullins he is another one who had some awesome lyrics, Third Day is about the closest group to Christian Rock that I can think of right now and I love their music. Some newer groups that I enjoy are FFH, MercyMe, Caedmon's Call and Casting Crowns. The style is different from the artist of old but these are groups I can appreciate for their music and lyrics. As far as groups/artist that today's audience would appreciate. I think they would appreciate a lot of them if they were given a chance to hear their music. In secular music there are entire stations devoted to the music of the 70's, 80's and early 90's and people who are younger than me listen to it and like it! I do believe it would be the same if Christian Radio would do this, maybe not entire stations devoted to that genre (I wouldn't mind it) but even if they would just play the songs in their regular broadcasts and let people be exposed to it I think it would become popular again. A lot of people were never exposed to this music because a) Many parents wouldn't let their kids listen to it because it was deemed "evil" by many churches and b) A lot of people who are Christians now, weren't when this music was in it's prime. On my local Christian radio station the only older song you ever hear is When God Ran by Benny Hester, love the song, love it but it would be nice to hear some others as well. You are hard pressed to even hear an older song from someone who is still popular. For now I just break out the old tapes and cd's and listen to them when what I hear on the radio doesn't satisfy. Anyone else? :)

I hate to say it, but I would be one of those people. I'm only 24. My parents never really got me exposed to any of those groups. :( I too wish they would play some of those older songs on our Christian radio station, because I know that I would love them a lot. Like princess: said I think the oldest song I have heard on the radio is When God Ran by Benny Hester and it is such a wonderful song! I too listen to all the groups that princess: listed. I also really like Go Fish. I should really see if I can find any of the older tapes or CD's, I just know that I would love them!

Love One Another

We spoke with the tongues of angels
But we didn't have love, no we didn't have love
We had faith that could move any mountain
But it wasn't enough, 'cause we didn't have love
We had wings but we did not fly
We had vision but we didn't have sight
Can we forgive, so the whole world can live

CHORUS
Love, Love one another
Leaving the past, believing in the power of love
Love one another
'Cause we're all in this together
Love one another

No one would live forever
If it wasn't for love, God's love
No one would stay together
If it wasn't for love

Disillusioned by the stained-glass sea
But there is truth for those that hope and believe
Now I can see, that the greatest of these is love

CHORUS
Love one another
Leaving the past, believing in the power of love
Love one another
'Cause we're all in this together
Love one another

I Could Sing Of Your Love/ Sonic Flood

Over the mountains and the sea
Your river runs with love for me
And I will open up my heart
And let the healer set me free
I'm happy to be in the truth
And I will daily lift my hands
For I will always sing
Of when your love came down
CHORUS
I could sing of your love forever
I could sing of your love forever
I could sing of your love forever
Over the mountains and the sea
Your river runs with love for me
And I will open up my heart
And let the healer set me free
I'm happy to be in the truth
And I will daily lift my hands
For I will always sing
Of when your love came down
CHORUS
CHORUS
Oh, I feel like dancing
It's foolishness I know
But when the world has seen the light
They will dance with joy
Like we're dancing now
CHORUS
CHORUS

Hey Everyone!

I am back again, to sing another song. Because I can not get to sleep. :(

Always and Forever

The moon will glow
The sun will rise,
The grass will grow
Some things will never change
Just like you and me
Mountains high and valleys low
I have got to let you know
That I am here for you
Whatever you go through

Troubles come and get you down
I'll be here for you
We will be strong
Forever and ever

As far back as I can remember
Thirty-one days in the month of December
Life will still go on
But it's just not the same
Miles and miles and miles are between us
Like earth and mars and then on to venus
Although you've gone away
I still see your face

And these memories linger inside our
Hearts always!

I will be here always and forever
I'll be here for you
We will be strong
Forever and ever

(repeat)

Sarah! I am so sorry that you can't sleep. {hugs} I pray you get a really good rest once you fall asleep!

Oh you silly! ;) Don't apologize. I truly understand what you and Phil are both saying.

Phil, I used to listen to Andre Crouch, The Gaithers (still do!), Dallas Holm, and Keith Green (Al Green, too).... are those the ones you are referring to? Great music!! :)

Some oldies that are my favorites are Mylon LeFever (went to his Broken Heart concerts), Keith Green, The Happy Goodmans, Bob and Jeannie Johnson and Petra.

We do all have different tastes or preferences in music. I do lean towards praise and worship music, though I certainly like contemporary christian, southern gospel, hymns, black gospel...

As far as so many P&W albums being released over the last couple of years, I think it is reflective of what is going on in the church. I think many areas across the world are experiencing a renewed hunger for the manifest presence of God and it is being reflected in the music. I don't think it is meant to be in the place of other styles of music. I just think we are seeing the P&W area growing.

I remember when I first learned about singing to God and not just about God. This was introduced to me through P&W music. It was in the late 80s. And Hosanna! music and Maranatha music were about the only ones releasing P&W music. I appreciate them sooo much because at this very formable time in my life, they "taught" me to worship God through example. Then as others came along, I was just blessed more and more to find new songs to sing my love and praise to God with. And then, I have since learned that I can "sing a new song" from my heart, as the scriptures encourage us to do all throughout the Psalms, and in Isaiah and Revelation. Just whatever tune and words flow from our mouths in praise and worship to Jesus are such a blessing to Him.

Great discussion, you guys! Thanks for sharing your hearts. :)

I know, I know. Long time no see...

DS#2 is home from college for the summer, so the computer is not always "all mine". DS#1 was home this weekend, then heads back to Kentucky and in three weeks will be married. I'm not old enough to be the mother-of-the-groom!

For those of you who have been following my separation odyssey, the final divorce papers came on Saturday without any warning or fanfare. Such a bittersweet time -- to know that you "failed" at something so important, but to have regained your walk with the Lord through all the pain and hurt.

WHO AM I

Casting Crowns – WHO AM I
From the album – CASTING CROWNS

Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name
Would care to feel my hurt
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart

chorus:
Not because of who I am
Not because of what You’ve done
Not because of what I’ve done
But because of who You are

I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
A vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I’m calling
And You’ve told me who I am
I am Yours, I am Yours

Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love and watch me rise again
Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea
Would call out through the rain
And calm the storm in me

I am Yours
Whom shall I fear
Whom shall I fear
‘Cause I am Yours
I am Yours

Have a good Monday everyone!

In Him,
Edie

Good Morning Edie

Morning All!

Sarah, I'm so sorry you were having trouble sleeping. I hope you were able to get some rest.

Hey Edie! Good to see you. You know that song has become a real favorite around here! ::yes::

Hey Fur! You know I don't have anything against p&w music, I love it but for a couple of years it was very hard to find anything but that. I think one of the things that really bothered me about it was that it seemed like a bandwagon to be jumped on because that was the "in" thing. There were some great albums put out during that time, some that I really enjoy but it is a welcome change to see these artist starting to put out "regular" CCM again. As you pointed out there are entire labels that put out just about nothing but p&w music so it just seemed a bit much when so many artists put out not one, but in some cases several p&w albums each instead of the music that built their fan base in the first place. If that is where God lead them, then that is fine but because so many people did it, it seemed like it was more because it was "popular" at the moment as opposed to spirit lead.
