Chris Matthews remark????

Yeah, it was inappropriate. But I'm having a really hard time summoning any outrage given the absolute BS that President Obama has endured from the right-wing media wingnuts. I'm not saying that excuses it, but when "your guy" has been the target of a lot of completely inappropriate outright lies and innuendos, you don't have an easy time feeling bad when it happens to someone on the other team.

Matthews is a smart man I'm sure he chose his words very carefully. He knew the implication of his words. Not to mention, Jindal has experience at the national level. He can speak first hand to a speech regarding national politics.

But Jindal isn't in National politics now...he spoke as current govenor...he can not speak to the current National situation like a current Washington insider can.

Again, the quote....

They had to outsource the response tonight, the Republican party. They had to outsource to someone who had nothing to do with Congress because the Republicans in Congress had nothing to do with the programs he was talking about tonight or the record he referred to.

I don't care for Matthews - he grates on my last nerve....but on this one, I will not try to get inside his mind and make believe I know what his intent was - because I don't. But if his intent was to make a remark against Jindals heritage...he is worse than slime.

Well now that I see the whole comment I'm not sure it was bigoted or in poor taste, but he should have used a better word like the NYPost should have known better with that monkey cartoon whether it was meant to be Obama or not.

My thoughts as well.

Exactly

And heaven help the person that starts a thread on the DIS about it. They are looking to be offended, playing the race card, stirring the pot...

Fingers of bigotry and racism have been pointed at Conservatives by the libs for years, when it has been so evident throughout the democratic primary, that the racism and bigotry has been on the left! That hasn't changed.

I only heard a small clip, but wasn't the "outsource" comment meant to say they outsource to a governor as opposed to someone who currently is in the national arena and can speak first hand to the points in a speech regarding national politics?

Now, I don't like Matthews, he grates on my every nerve...but given the context of the statement, it is at least questionable his intent.

If he did intend it in a bigoted manner....he is a slimy piece of crap.

Thanks. It's hard to tell without hearing his inflection, but in written form I don't see anything wrong/bigoted about that statement. Just more faux outrage.

Of course he can. He has as much national experience as many in DC. And Matthews knew exactly what he was saying.
Believe it or not, it's no skin off my back. I didn't think Dems would give a rats behind about it anyway.

He should change his show's name to "Hairball" cause he sure has hacked up few good ones over the years.

:rotfl2: MSNBC ratings are so in the tank that what he says is only heard by liberals....fair and balanced he's not.

Indian-American is not a race. That's a fact.

Why did he even have to add that into his sentence in the first place...it's not like he was referring to race in his sentence as to say....people have a problem if he is Indian -American...African American.....

He could have said his sentence without adding that into it.....but I dont think he dislikes/hates Jindal because he is Indian American...I think he hates/dislikes him because he is a Republican. But I could be wrong he may not like him for both reasons....

He could have just said....that the Republicans needed to "outsource" their response to Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal?

what if Bill O said this.....they could have just outsourced their response to African-American Barach Obama. Gee would heads be flying then...the liberal media would be all over that yelling RACIST!!!

I look at the remark

They had to outsource the response tonight, the Republican party. They had to outsource to someone who had nothing to do with Congress because the Republicans in Congress had nothing to do with the programs he was talking about tonight or the record he referred to.

I just don't see it. And believe me, I dislike Matthews and want to find it. But was it "unP.C." to use the word outsource when someone of Indian heritage is concerned...I will buy that...but i thought PC was something we were moving away from.

But if I find out he really meant it as a slam on Jindal's heritage, he is a slimey piece of crap.

I didn't know India was a race. :confused3

india is a sub-continent of asia, so you could consider them asians. however, it seems they consider there to be approximately six or seven ethnic groups represented in india.

To be fair, he did not say Jindal was an Indian American in his quote about outsourcing. My OP was not a direct quote. I used Indian American to clarify my question.
And I don't think he hates Jindal for his ethnicity, but his hatred for his ideals caused him to say something bigoted.

The comments were out of line.

I thought we were sick of being PC and "playing the race card".

So Matthew’s comment is racist, but the cartoon in the NY Post wasn’t.:confused3:confused3

primate is an order of mammal, not a race. is "hippopotamus" also a race?

Do we have a history of comparing blacks to hippos?

I assume you're here to play dumb and pretend you have no clue why the cartoon was offensive.:thumbsup2

the cartoon was referring to the expression "any monkey could...."...fill in the blank. it would be stupid for anybody to compare a black person to a primate, whether or not there was once a trend to do so. how absurd to proliferate such a thing; any person who does should be absolutely ashamed to keep that slur alive. including those on the dis.

also, the cartoon referred to who wrote the spendulus bill, and that was not bho.

the cartoon was offensive and in poor taste, but not for racial reasons.

My opinion of Matthew's intentions is colored by his, what he thought, was an off-mike comment of "OH GOD", when Jindal walked to the podium to give his speech.

So you know what he thought? (I lost my tin foil hat, so I can no longer do this;) ) Seriously, how do you know what he thought?

And in terms of the 'oh God' remarks...didn't many conservatives take issue with his performance as well?

And in terms of the 'oh God' remarks...didn't many conservatives take issue with his performance as well?

not BEFORE he spoke, and the issue was with his delivery, not the content.

ETA: i believe dawn was indicating CM thought he was off-mike while making the "oh god" comment.

not BEFORE he spoke, and the issue was with his delivery, not the content.

Excuse me, the delivery his comments are more important than the real live actual comments??You are kidding me, right???

They had to outsource the response tonight, the Republican party. They had to outsource to someone who had nothing to do with Congress because the Republicans in Congress had nothing to do with the programs he was talking about tonight or the record he referred to.

Again, Matthews is obnoxious and I dislike his show and his performance, but to say that the wors are less imprtant with the delivery, that is just obscure to me. Seriously.
