i just had ❤️ failure...we fly out in 3 days which won't give m time to get a pin sent to me. If my Disney visa has the chip in it do the stores on property require a pin to use my credit card??!:headache: (Bugger)

I want to say no but I honestly don't remember. I've never needed my pin and every card I own is chipped.

In the United States, we don't use the chip-and-pin system yet. It is technically chip-and-signature, which is really far behind the times. That said, as of a couple months ago, I don't think the Disney systems accept chip cards at all. You'll have to swipe your magnetic stripe.

No! You can use a Disney Visa as a credit card. There are several machines that take the chip and you would need to sign, but no need for a pin.

Chip and signature? I've never once needed to sign when using my chip card. It's either chip and that's it, or chip and enter my pin.

On Disney though last time we were there I believe we just swiped every card.

In the US it is Chip and Sign as the standard - and even if your US card supports chip and pin - there are a few - they will usually also allow for chip and sign as well.
Even though I have pins for all my cards I have never been prompted for a pin in the US - on occasion I have been prompted for a pin in Europe - but usually buying a ticket from machine and very rarely in a restaurant - the first time that happened I was thinking it was a scam.
Amounts under $25 (and $50 in some cases) may not even need you to sign at all

So as long as your card is a US issued card it should support Chip and sign - they also still have the magnetic strip - so that should also work - I don't even know if Disney has upgraded to chip readers - lots of places still haven't spent the money on new equipment.

Are you talking about in the United States? The system in use at retailers here is the Chip-And-Signature system. That said, most card issuers have a dollar value under which signatures aren't required for anyone. (They're still optional for merchants.) That's intended to make the process go faster at retailers. So you would likely would have also not signed if you didn't have a chip for those purchases.

I've only been to one retailer in the US since receiving my chip card that required a pin. It's not somewhere I shop often, so i don't even know where it was. Many merchants local to me here in NYC don't have working chip readers yet, or if they do with it's chip and sign (when over the right $ amount).

Are you staying on property? If so, you won't even bring your card to the parks if you set it up to your magic band. I didn't bring anything with me!

If not, like everyone else said, it's chip and signature. Of course, it still seems to be slide and signature at a lot of places!

We have been visiting the USA (Connecticut) all week and almost every store we have been to we have had to do chip and pin.

Yea only in the U.S.. I have yet to get to venture out the country yet sadly.

Here at target with my Target Redcard we use the chip and have to enter the pin no matter how small the cost. I've never been prompted to sign but havent recently bought anything over $100 so idk if that's the threshold for signatures or not. Any other store with my regular debit card I've always either just stuck the chip in and good to go or chip and then enter my pin.

Target's Redcard is a proprietary system. Assuming you're talking about the Target-only credit card and not the Target-visa, it doesn't even have a magnetic stripe on the back.

Hmm maybe non-US issued cards aren't set up to allow for signature transactions at all.

The target Visas have been converted to master cards and all require a pin with the chip. It was the Target credit card breach that prompted this.

You may have a Target Debit Red Card. Never a signature, always a pin.

I'm under the impression that that the decision of signature vs. PIN with chip cards was up to the card issuer and not the vendor. When I got my AmEx card with a chip in it, I went to their web site to see about setting up a PIN and it stated that AmEx would utilize Chip & Signature and I didn't need a PIN.

Im Canadian so it's all about Chip and PIN, even in restaurants.

But, our cards still have mag strips on the back.

When I visit the US our card is swiped the "old school" way and we sign (unless the retailer is set up for Chip/PIN).

HTH :)
