While at work, someone mentioned it to DS#3. He came home, looked it up and was repulsed by it. He called my attention to it and I found it equally repulsive. I believe I alluded to that in the very first post.

I think it's repulsive too. But it's their culture and their belief system and short of actual abuse, I don't think we have the right to stick our noses in their business. Except for the cases where fur was used on products sent to the US. We certainly do have the right to outlaw certain things sold in this very country.

1. Absolutely nothing other than to express my opinion.
2. I have already told you.
3. I answered his question. He didn't like the answer.

5. I have lots of hobbies. This is merely one. Let me recommend a good book for you to read. Its an older book but it has been revised several times and would give you a good understanding of China's history. I read it two weeks ago.

Unfortunately, from the videos I have seen, the practices go well beyond abuse. There are a lot of things from China that aren't allowed in this country; exploding tires, toxic toothpaste, lead loaded toys and dog and cat fur. We know for a fact that all of the above have found their way to our markets. Here is a link from the US Humane Society. I remember finding a link last year that noted that trim fur, on hats, gloves, etc under a certain amount, does not have to have the source of the fur. I just do not buy anything with fur. China is not the only source of dog and cat fur. Eastern Europe does the same. Its market has been the EU.

There are some real nutcases here on the DIS that you could be responding to so why are you (the general you) instead focusing on Dawn?

Does every OP have to give the background on why they decided to start a post and end post #1 with "I expect to get ________ out of this thread"???

Dawn didn't "do this" to herself. She just started a thread about how the Chinese treat dogs. You guys are trying to fight with her about other stuff from other threads. Why not just dredge those threads back up and leave it out of this one?

It is not something I would want to eat but I do eat cow, pig, deer, chicken, lamb, seafood, etc. In this country we raise these animals for slauter and our methods are not exactly pretty in any shape or form. There are plenty of videos on the internet showing how awful we treat them. In China they raise dogs for food, they don't have a personal relationship with them like we do in the US.

Now OTOH I do think the stuff with the toys and toothpaste is awful and needs to be taken care of. That is the kind of stuff I find nauseating and would be willing to sign a petition against.

Just to let you and Cool Beans in on a little info here. I found this whole thread laughable, even though the subject matter about it, is quite sad. I was just enjoying myself at the ridiculous nature of the thread. Like it would matter to China what we think. China looks out for China and always will. They could eat a million dogs a year and there's not one thing we could do about it. Same goes with just about everything they do and we are basically powerless to stop them. This subject matter of this thread is not only controversial, many can be offended by it. To bring up the subject and the stereotype of Orientals eating dogs and cats is similar to saying that Black Americans consume mass quantities watermelon and fried chicken. It may not be same topic, but it's in the same ballpark. I wasn't offended, but I wasn't surprised to see the responses to this thread. She actually got off light, IMO and it could have been much worse and a flame fest. Most dismissed it as a joke and a head shaker of a thread from what I could tell.

As for giving out explanations, if you go on a community internet BB and post the amount of threads she does and cause the same amount of controversy she does, you're going to get some static. If you constantly get caught trying to pass off OP ed pieces as news and facts or completely biased political sites that are one sided, as proof of your argument, expect to get static. If you contradict yourself on various subjects on many different threads, expect to be called out on it. If you get caught doing this and questions are raised, you should have the decency and moral obligation to respond to them. When I'm asked a question directly, I have no problem answering it. I know full well that there's people who will bring up previous threads and show proof if needed, if I'm caught in a lie or contradiction. If you give out way too much info on yourself, especially financial matters and material possessions time and time again, you have to expect some negativity. Your friends, allies, detractors, political opponents, etc, on the internet only have the info you give them, to go by and use against you if needed. I have been reading Dawn's posts for quite a long time now and she brings at least 90% of the grief she gets, all on her own. Some fair, some isn't, but it's still by her own choosing.

So before you flame me or slam me for saying what I did now and in the past about Dawn, read what she writes and think about it. There's plenty of examples to be found. Don't make me out to be the bad guy in all of this and her hands are just as dirty.

1. I stated early on that anyone's opinion, including "world" opinion would have absolutely no affect on what China does or doesn't do.
2. NOTE the title of the thread. It doesn't say "Chinese people", it doesn't say "all oriental people", it says CHINA AND ST BERNARDS. Are you so stricken with political correctness that you can't start or participate in a thread without being labeled or worry about being labeled racists? It is what it is. There are over 2 million hits and tons of Utube videos on the subject, if you can believe your own eyes.
3. If you have absolutely no interest in the subject, why would you open it?
Why would you waste your time? I don't open half of the threads on this board.
4. With regard to my "financial situation". I have never made that clear. I clarified a couple of rumors due to viscious gossip and speculation that was taking place on another board.
5. My hands "aren't dirty". I don't go out of my way to pick a fight with you or anyone else. I state my opinion and manage to do so for the most part, without getting personal, worrying if someone's opinion or "A" is consistant with their opinion on "B". Not everyone has to be totally consistant. There are circumstances, emotions, situations, timing, that contribute to everyone being inconsistant. I see it all the time here. It doesn't bother me. I don't care. I don't know why YOU care. I am not running for office. You don't need to vote for me. I seriously think that you need to chill out and worry less about what "Dawn" thinks although I probably should be flattered that you seem to care so much.
