China and St Bernards.

Oh, for Pete's sake. So they eat dog. Big, fat, hairy deal.

I do not support one culture telling another what they can and cannot eat...I like my cheeseburgers WAY too much for that.

And it won't matter, anyway. China doesn't care. Even if they felt we were superior in matters of "human rights" they wouldn't care. But they don't think that. Since that picture of little Elian Gonzales with a big old rifle pointed at him, they absolutely scoff at Americans claiming anything of the sort.

Good golly.

I just had Shepards Pie last night. Should I worry?

As much as I cringe at the thought of them butchering fido, we surely have no room to judge. Carnivores are carnivores. Just be glad we are at top of the food chain.

Yup, just like it is China's decision to allow the sale of dog meat. :confused3 I don't agree with it. I think it is awful. I think you are right that it is unacceptable in this country. However, I think focusing on China when we have the same or worse things happening here is a little....xenophobic?

Frankly, we don't have state sanctioned activities that are the "same or worse'. This is one more thing on the heap of exploding tires, toxic toothpaste, date rape toys, etc. China has little concern about the health and well being of its own citizenry, so to expect cruelty to animals to be on their agenda is expecting the impossible. That said, we have taken steps that do not allow the import of dog and cat fur. Now its time for the EU to do the same.

I'm fascinated by the fact that you now use Snopes.com to verify your claim, when you've disavowed them in the past.

And why is that?

Here's another claim you've made over and over and over here on the DIS. In fact, you've said it so many times that a quick search produced numerous examples. Here's just one of them;

Since you consider Snopes to be credible, here's what they say about your statement;

So which is it, Dawn, because it can't be both at the same time. Long time readers of the DIS know that you've contradicted yourself many times over and over again in the course of making your arguments;

Is Snopes incorrect about Gore and thus your initial post is invalid?

or

Is Snopes correct about Gore and thus you are in fact being, by the definition of a source you yourself say is valid, unreasonable when you continue to make the claim about Gore. And if so, what else are you being unreasonable about?

Since this board puts so much credibility on snopes, I posted it. There are 2,100,000 hits on google that will verify the claim. So which is it; China includes dogs in their diets or they don't? One picture is worth a thousand words. Google the dog fur trade. Some "cultural" practices are not worthy of perpetuating. Consider the "cultural practice" that lead to kuru. Consider the "cultural practice" of sharia law. Not all cultures need to be idealized.

The Chinese eat a little dog. No disputing that. But they don't eat a LOT of dog. Koreans eat a lot more dog than than the Chinese do.

I prefer chicken. This week, it'll be turkey. Gobble, gobble!

Some :) posters :cloud9: don't like any meat. :faint:

One man's meat is another man's poison..

At the Moment!! :rotfl2: :scared1:

I don't eat dogs. I also don't eat cows, chickens, shrimp, etc. But that's what being vegetarian is about. I like all animals, so I don't eat any of them.

Some cultures eat pork, some don't, some eat dogs, some don't. My dad made a few business trips to Korea and he's pretty sure he may have eaten some dog over there. That's what they do. It's no more heinous than eating other animals, IMO.

Call me confused, but how is breeding and raising dog for consumption any worse than breeding and raising pigs, cattle, sheep or chickens for consumption?

In China dog is a delicacy much like filet mignon or lobster tail in this country.

You completely dodged the question, Dawn. Try again.

Is snopes credible when they say Gore never said anything that could be reasonably interpreted the way you've interpreted it on many occasions? Are you saying that you're the only reasonable person and a site that "this board puts so much credibility on" is wrong?

Why must every thread Dawn posts on turn into a political thread?

Not at all true. Dawn makes many posts on personal subjects that aren't the least bit political.

On the other hand, this most certainly is a political topic involving international law.

Al Gore claiming to have invented the internet is nothing compared to flying around the world in his private jet insisting that the rest of us walk and live by candle light. :rotfl2:

Dodging again, Dawn. Is snopes credible or not? Depending on your answer, one of your posts is wrong. Which one is it?

Not at all true. Dawn makes many posts on personal subjects that aren't the least bit political.

This thread doesn't involve international law. It involves the dietary habits of China and the repulsion of it by the Swiss....and myself. Obviously China doesn't give a hoot about international law because somewhere, there must be a law about not poisoning the buyers of your exports. It certainly violates the laws of common sense.

Did it ever occur to you that the Chinese are probably repulsed by many things we do:confused3 ? There are plenty of people in this country that at times have eaten things like squirrel, possum and even bats. While that's not something I'd ever do and I do find it very unappealing I don't think I'm superior to them because I don't eat those things.

Right. You aren't picking a fight with Dawn because you WANT to fight with her. It is all simply a disagreement over "international law."

Man, squirriel, possum and bats do not have a "relationship" with eat other, although my uncle once had a pet racoon. I do not consider eating dog "unappealing", I consider it disgusting and loathsome. I am repulsed by the discriptions of cruelty. If you wish to brush this off as merely a cultural difference, that is your choice. I signed the petition. I am well aware that it is no doubt an exercise in futility, but it is an expression of my disdain for the practice.

Have you seen the videos on youtube?:sad1:

I'm not buying the whole "international law" either.

The question posed was, is this a political thread? It is. Period.

And Dawn is still dodging the question posed to her about snopes. Why aren't either of you calling her on her hypocrisy?
