Hi everyone,

Thanks to the previous very helpful threads I've seen here I know my 5 year old needs an "approved" child seat.

I've got quotes through Airline Network and also Yes Car Hire. Yes charge an additional $5 per day for the seat. However Airline Network don't make any mention of an additional charge for the car seat and the price didn't change when I ticked the box to add the seat.

Has anyone used Airline Network for car hire and had experience of whether they will charge or not? I would have assumed that it would say on the website if they will but it would be great to have that confirmed!

Cheers

Karen

We booked car hire through Airline Network last trip and the car was from Dollar so maybe people have experience of child seats from them?

It's a couple of years now since my two needed child seats but the first time or two when we took them we hired seats and they were filthy and horrible with worn straps and just didn't seem safe. On subsequent trips we took our own seats. We used to just wrap them in a bin liner and tape round them and the airlines took them without question.

Karen, we used Airline Network last year and the seat was included in our insurance package which was the super duper all singing all dancing one.

The one we were offered didn't look too good so I changed it for a booster seat which was fine. I also requested a booster seat in Oct when I used a car service. A booster seat might be a better option.

Thank you :) Sounds good - the super duper all entertaining insurance package is the one I wanted.

Annmarie, was the booster seat available through Airline Network or did you take your own?

(We are struggling for space taking stuff to Gatwick so I'm trying to avoid taking anything not strictly necessary, LOL)

Always try and avoid hiring the seat (the same goes for strollers).
It is so much cheaper to either take your ow, or buy a new one when you're out there and throw it away!....exactly what we did...

Karen the booster was from Airline Network.

Karen, be careful if your quote doesnt specify the seat. We did TCDs "Fully Inc" insurance that supposedly included everything. When we got to the rental desk they tried to charge us $7 a day for them. The only way we got out of it was by upgrading to a MPV that had one built in. However, when we got in the car, the seat wasnt there, so we had to have one of the usual manky Dollar ones. Since then we have taken our own.

A booster will be fine for a 5 year old and would recommend you bring your own if you can. We are taking both a booster for Jess and Daniels full seat....these dont count against your luggage allowance and they sit on them for the journey down, so no problemo with space!
