We just hot back from WDW. We were in the area when it happened. Evidently, the mom and dad were in the room but occupied.....shaving, showering. The little girl climbed up on a chair or table on the balcony and over she went. She was released from the hospital fairly quickly.
Yes, it is horrifying to have something like this happen. And no, you can't, realistically, watch a youngster constantly. Perhaps the slider was left open. Who knows. Accidents happen. Maybe this little girl 'knew better' but just really wanted a better look at the animals, and she took the chance while mom and dad were occupied. And she fell. Horrible. But accidents happen.
I well remember the time my now 37 y/o dd 'escaped'. She was down for her nap. I needed to vac my bedroom so closed my door so as to not wake her. Well, I finished snd went downstairs. It took 15 mins or so! About 10 mins later I happened to look out into the yard and saw dd's clothes and diaper sitting on the swing! I ran upstairs and yep, she was not in her crib! The doorbell rang and there was the town cop, who lived across the street, with my dd, and our dog! I never noticed the fog was gone. The cop had just stopped a speeder, right down the street.....a car which probably would have hit my dd if he hadn't been stopped. The kid was walking down the middle of the street, naked, with the dog at her side. That animal didn't leave her and growled at the poor cop when he tried to approach my dd! We got very lucky that day. I am a d
Good parent. But stuff happens. Sometimes with horrific results. Making balconies completely safe isn't going to happen. That would mean that the balcony would cease to exist and we would have 'sun porches' at the resorts. Parents need to take responsibility and do the best they can to ensure their kids' safety. Disney can't do that for us.
