Chicks and Roosters...part 2

Hey everybody! I can't even tell you how strange the last 12 days have been. I won't go into detail right now--I'll save that for when I have more time, but my life has consisted of interviews for teaching positions, life altering decisions, accidents threatening life and limb--literally, finishing up those 40+ t-shirts, and packing for WDW! Shew! Gotta run...

We had a fabulous lunch today at the restaurant in the Bass Pro Shop. I had a delicious crab cake sandwich and Mark tried a buffalo burger for the first time. If you didn't know it was buffalo you wouldn't think any different and it was quite tasty too. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon. Mark's not in to hunting or fishing (he golfs) but I always enjoy walking around looking at all the neat things in that store.

Lori you know now I'm wondering what's up. Come back and tell us all about the past two weeks.

Good morning all

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

I'm just getting back from Church. I think today will be a do nothing kind of day. I bought some steaks at Sam's last week so Mark can throw those on the grill for us. Chilling and DISing is the order of the day.

Oh Lori..............inquiring minds want to know. :rolleyes1

Did they move the smilies around again?

Ugh - I ripped my little toenail off.

Never heard from arkmom. :surfweb:

We swam today and I worked on my scrapbook from the June WDW trip.

Try to put 10/10 (2009) DCL on your calendar. I'm sure Susan can help. :hippie:

Ok. Where to begin?
First... two Mondays ago started off a whirlwind of interviews for teaching positions. That alone was enough to make me want to jump off a cliff. Some folks really get carried away with the questions. Geez. That really is taxing on a girl's mind, body, and soul.
Next...two Thursdays ago, I get home from a fun little shopping trip to find out that DH's brother was injured on the job (he's a bricklayer). A forklift ran over him!!! Well, his leg. Twice!!! So they spent the next 4 days doing three surgeries on his right foot, trying to piece it back together. From the beginning he was told that he had a 50/50 chance of losing the foot. Now this guy is the most healthy, athletic 50 year old guy you'll ever come across. Does marathons, triathlons, cycles across the state with DH. So the whole thing is just heart breaking. Last Tuesday they said, oh, you're doing great. We're sending you home tomorrow. Not. The next day they said, um, we're gonna have to amputate from the knee down. Damn. So this past Thursday they did just that.
Now, in the meantime, between running back and forth to the hospital in Memphis (2.5 hours from here), I'm still doing interviews. And trying to get ready for this trip. This Grand Gathering. This trip of a lifetime for 9 people who have been promised the world by me and Will.
So I find three schools that I'm diggin'. They all tell me they'll call me with offers or rejections by dates ranging from June 25-July 1. My #1 pick isn't going to contact me until July 1--after the other two are scheduled to contact me. See my dilema? Now how am I supposed to handle that? If I get an offer on the 25th, what do I tell them? Oh, and by the way. All these schools are in Little Rock. An hour away when there's no traffic. Easily and hour and a half during drive time. So we, as a family unit, decide that if I get and accept an offer, we'll move down there. (DH already works down there and would LOVE to move there after having commuted for 9 years.)
Are you with me?
Two of my top choices are charter schools. Meaning they have their own set of rules and unique qualities. One of those being the hours. 8:00-5:00!!! They're trying to churn out some smart kids, so I guess it takes a few extra hours each week!
So...hospital, shopping/packing, world promising, interviewing, house hunting, pre-listing house prepping, regular life stuff.
It all comes to a head last Friday. Brother-in-law has come through surgery. Miserable, drugged up, flirting with the nurses, asking for BBQ ribs (he was, afterall, in Memphis). I got some serious packing done and lots of pre-trip stuff marked off my list. By then I had started a list of all the things we needed to do in order to get the house ready to sell. And the whole time I'm stressing about which school is going to call and when. And what do I tell them.
And then I check the mail.
I had a letter, four days before anticipated. Congratulations, you've been chosen to teach at....my FIRST CHOICE SCHOOL! Yippee!!! Now, who cares if the others call! I got the one I wanted!!! Yippee!!! And they contacted me early cause they knew I was looking at other schools. Dang, that feels good!!! Now this is a brand new school. And I'm one of maybe 5 teachers who've been hired at this point. And I've been asked to come on as a curriculum consultant starting July 21. Yippee!!! I'll feel so important when the other teachers come on board!
So then...(I know. It's crazy. But hang in with me; we're almost done!) Sean and I decide NOT to move to LR. It's just too much stress right now. Maybe all the crazy stuff going on made us realize that moving and all that comes with it is too much bother. We'll just both commute. Separate cars (different hours). And deal with it for now.
OoohOoohOoh. I've forgotten all the tshirt making. For the trip. Whenever I found a spare minute and a spare bit of energy, I've been working on those dang shirts. I gotta say, though I'm cursing myself for ever offering to make them for everyone, they are the cutest things ever. Gotta get some pics for y'all.
So that brings me to today.
Everyone is well or mending. I'm not moving. I have a new school. I'm half-packed. And all is good. :faint:

Oh Lori my head is spinning just reading your post. First let me offer you a big hug. Congrats on the job.

What grade will you be teaching? Second, I'm so sorry about your BIL. :sad1: I'm glad his is on the mend but that just stinks. I know we aren't supposed to question why these things happen but I sure hope God has a bigger plan for him.

I totally agree on not moving yet. See how it goes for a year and you'll be better able to make that type of decision when everything else around you calms down.

Disney is coming up so soon. Now that you know your BIL is doing better, you've got the job and you're not moving you can put all your energy into being Tour Guide Lori. Please post some pictures of all your master pieces when you've finished.

Girl have you been having a few cocktails while all this has been going on because I feel like I need a drink or at least a cup of coffee. I'm waiting to hear the little beep beep telling me my pot is finished brewing.

For you. :flower3:

 Lori! I'm exhausted for you! I'm so sorry about your BIL but it sounds like he's in pretty good spirits and with his active life, I'm sure he'll make amazing strides. I'll say some prayers.

Congrats on the job! I almost applied at a charter school and I still regret not doing it. I think I would have loved it. I'm so glad that you got your first choice!

Happy Monday everyone!

Wow arkmom!! That is FABULOUS news re the job!!!! :cool1: :woohoo: :yay: I am so so happy for you. Of course, when are you going to be able to Dis with all that commuting and working? :confused3 I am so sorry about your BIL - not to be callous, but I always wonder why it cannot be some couch potato to lose a leg they don't really use, instead of someone who really needs it. Yes post photos of your shirts! I want one! ;)

My new camera arrived today. The one I cannot tell DH about b/c we are on a bit of a spending moratorium. Fortunately, he's not all that observant. :rolleyes1

Trisha - my coffee maker doesn't tell me when it's done, so I keep running in, hoping. And then often get distracted until it's cold. So lame.

Good morning chicks.

FAB you must invest in a coffee maker that lets you know just when you can take that first sip. Mine beeps when it's ready then again in 1 1/2 hours when it turns off automatically. I'm one of those nerds that makes the coffee at night so in the morning all I have to do is turn it on. It does have a programmable time to come on by itself but I haven't been able to figure it out. :guilty:

Joanne where have you been? I shall send out the troops in search of you.

Lori only three more days. :woohoo: Have you been able to come up for air yet?

Susan how's the arm? Is the house all clean for your company?

Good morning all

sorry, I forgot to check in yesterday. It's a little busy with quarter end stuff here.
We're going to Lake George, NY on Saturday for a week.

What's everyone doing for the 4th?

Good morning!

Susan how's the arm? Is the house all clean for your company?

My arm is better. I only wear the splint at work and to bed. My movement is very limited, and I can't turn my arm over (palm up) which may be due to the pins. They are coming out tomorrow so I go back in for sugery.

M house is clean enough. :rolleyes1 Clutter has been removed (well moved anyway) and the guest bath is clean so it's ready.

Susan - good luck tomorrow getting the pins out. Yikes!

Joanne - what fun. I think I mentioned we went there once, but it was in the middle of winter. Actually, it was "Upper Jay" - that's close, right? Anyhow, have a great time. :goodvibes We don't have any plans - DH is working and I'll try not to set anything on fire with the random things bought at the firework store. Somehow, I'm guessing that pretty much anything that goes "ka blam" and shoots fire is legal in Texas.

Tricia - my problem is we keep buying Capressos. The last one was a gift from DH's parents, b/c it has the grinder built in. Of course, 1 out of 4 times, the grinder sort of gets stuck and needs whacked, which makes setting that timer a bit pointless... :sad2:

Lori - oh my.. you must post photos!

Good morning chicks.

Susan I'm thinking of you today and sending good vibes to your Dr. :goodvibes

I'm taking the kids to the zoo today. It's seems live forever since we've last been and it's about time those four legged friends of our get a visit from us. It's going to be hotter than hell but that's what you get in the summer in the south. You either suffer through it or don't go outdoors at all. :confused3

Tricia - what, no coffee? :surfweb: The kids woke me up way too early. And then of course, fell back asleep.

Joanne - didn't see you there! No, DH didn't get any fireworks - he's too busy saving the corporate world. ;)

The 7 year old wants to go to a public space and watch BIG fireworks. Which will truly terrorize the 2 year old after seeing Fantasmic. Whoops!

Good morning all

Susan, good luck today. :wizard:

Fab That's cool your DH got fireworks. They're banned in NY. But that doesn't stop people from getting them. :rotfl:

Good morning!

Fireworks are legal here but we've got so many wildfires burning, they shouldn't be.

For the record, I wasn't allowed any coffee today. I go in for surgery at 11:30 and my cut off was 8 am for water and juice. I'm hitting Starbucks on the way home.

Susan - I'm thinking of you and sending many positive thoughts and pixie dust. :wizard:

Susan I hope you're all back to normal after this surgery! I'm sure you're ready to put all this behind you!!!

Looks like everyone's staying busy.

Oh! Before I forget...
Happy 2nd anninversary (on Friday) to the second chicks thread. Or was it the first-chicks-post-drivel-thread? Anyway, 7/4 is it's second anniversary!
Since I won't be around, happy early anniversary!
