Chick flicks for girls?

I'm 13 and I totally loved Princess Bride...me and my cousins and sister all watch it as a "chick flick!!"

On holidays, my three girl cousins, me and my sister get together and watch all girly movies!! -

We love the Jane Austin movies like Pride & Prejudice, Emma, and Sense and Sensability. Me also watch Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and Little Women. Last time we were together we saw Runaway Bride(good) and The Wedding Planner(I love that movie!! and there isn't anything wrong with it...just one part, but it isn't very long..or THAT bad).

The Little Princess(something like that??) I loved when I was younger and watched it all the time! It isn't little kiddish, don't get me wrong, but I watched it a lot more then. It's kind of whimpsical ad magical..I really like(d) it.

I also love -
Sweet Home Alabama
Legally Blonde 1 & 2
The Princess Diaries
The Prince and Me
Ella Enchanted
Notting Hill
Clueless
Uptown Girls

I couldn't stand the Bring It On movies, but maybe it's only because I hate cheerleaders!!

Tuck Everlasting
Father of the Bride
My Date with the President's Daughter
Sleepless in Seattle
While You Were Sleeping
The Wedding Planner

Another vote for Father of the Bride! The one with Steve Martin in it has a sequel as well.

My DD is 10 and is into watching movies lately. Her favs are:
Freaky Friday
Bend It Like Beckham
Uptown Girls
Cheaper by the Dozen
Rat Race (not a chick-flick but she thinks it's hysterical)

My almost 10yo casts her vote for Jane Austen movies too. She just loves them!

My DH and DS would also agree that Princess Bride is NOT a chick flick. The whole family definately enjoys that one!

Kristen :earsgirl:

Oh well, I think she would like Princess Bride, even if it isn't a chick flick.

And I also loved Sense and Sensibility! :)

Grease.....loved it, so did my kids.

My son's absolute favorite song is an obscure one they sing at the start of the dance. I can't remember the name of it now.

But you have to picture this............my son, age 3, wearing his favorite outfit, his sister's looney tunes nightgown ( he loved it because it had comic strips all over it ), with his blue CHIPS helmet, complete with sun visor, playing the Grease album over and over on his Bugs Bunny record player.

And yes, he grew up to be perfectly normal.

One thing though....my sister always said the way Grease ends, the moral of the story is " be a slut, get the guy". Anyone else take it that way?

i always sorta got the moral was just be yourself and if it's meant to be it will be because they both tried to be what they thought the other one wanted (slut /jock) but in the end they realised she didn't want a jock and he didn't want the slut they were just the on that they wanted (oooo ooooo oooooo hon ah) altho the hot pants were and are to this day the hottest outfit ever to be worn on film (imho)

oops thread hijack is now over *sorry*

13 Going on 30 was great. we can't wait for Mean Girls.

if your daughte ris 10 she'll like some of the Mary Kate and Ashley videos -- my girls loved the one where they went to Paris.

Bring It On was a fun movie, but a little "racy" for a 10 year old.

Has anyone seen a preview screening of Mean Girls yet? We want to see that, but I'm wondering what is getting it the pg-13 rating.

Thanks for all the suggestions!!!

Erika

I did see someone on the DIS who reviewed the movie. she said the language was pretty rough.

but then again, that's realistic for girls that age. I was reading a book called "Queen Bees and Wannabes", by a woman who teaches empowerment classes in middle school and high school. she says that there isn't a girl in middle school who hasn't been called a nasty name (there are two that are very "popular" right now). and that there isn't a girl in middle school who hasn't called another girl one of those nasty names. just because you never hear your daughter use those words doesn't mean she won't use them when you're not around.

the book was written as a parenting guide, but I believe a lot of the information was used int eh scrpt for the "Mean Girls" movie.

Cheaper by the Dozen
Clueless
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (?)
My Best Friend's Wedding
The Parent Trap
Lizzy Maguire

I haven't seen The Princess Bride in a very long time. I need to rent it soon. :)

An older movie but it would be a good one is Ice Castles. Robby Benson makes it worthwhile. The Wedding Planner. Little women.
