Chick-Fil-A

I'd convert to Christianity for Chick-Fil-A. <3

Waffle fries...*drool*

The Chik-Fil-A near me is filled with post-highschool soon-to-be-out-if-not-already teenagers. One of the managers there is gay, and if anything he must not hire straight people :rotfl: :rotf:

I don't go to Chick-Fil-A, I wish I could because I love their food. I used to take by boys there when they were little. They started putting religious material in the kid's meals. Like giving the boys coloring books with bible themes. I didn't feel that was appropriate no matter what you believe.

Well, we can't eat at Chik-Fil-A because they cook with peanut oil. My DS-9 is allergic to peanuts so, no eating there. I also don't like how they have it posted on their board. It's in very small letters. We did stop there and get my son a chocolate milk at the mall last week. I told them the Peanut oil info needed to be larger.

I remember they were sued for allegedly firing a Muslim employee who refused to pray to Jesus Christ at a training session to become a store manager. Not to mention some stores give discounts if you bring in your local church bulletin. I wonder if the Church of Scientology qualifies? I actually like their Cookies & Cream Milkshakes and the Chicken Sandwiches. The waffle fries are usually dried out though, they suck. The last time I went the drive-thru clerk said "may God bless you" in a very holier than thou tone, and I haven't had the urge to go back. Plenty of other options out there.

Well this is disstressing. I am a HUGE CFA fan and while I knew of their Christian ties I didn't know it went into discrimination. It also sucks because food wise its the best thing to happen to Cedar Point. All the rest of the food there is blech.

I know they have delicious food. I didn't know everything else thats being said.
Oh well I don't go there often anyway.

Hello everyone. I would like to try to clear a few things up here. I am an Owner/Operator for a Chick-fil-A restaurant and I would just like to say that we DO NOT discriminate on any race, religion, or sexual orientation.

I would also like to clear up that we are not actually a "Christian Organization." When Truett Cathy founded the company in 1946 he decided to make all of his business decisions on biblical priniciples.

I can assure you that any reports of someone being fired because the team member is not a christian is not true.

In my unit, we have people from many religions working together. We also are very good to our team members as far as rewards and regognition. We offer $1000 scholoarships to each employee as long as they work for at least 2 years with us and accumulate 2000 hours. That averages out to about 20 hours per week.

We also offer a select scholarship to Berry College of $25,000 to a certain number of team members.

We also have Camp Winshape and Winshape Homes. Winshape homes is a foster home that Truett founded many years ago helping out kids who have been unfortunate to not have parents to raise them.

If you guys do not want to eat with us that is your decision and I respect that, but I do want you to know this.

PLEASE DO NOT FEEL THAT YOU ARE NOT WELCOME IN OUR RESTAURANT BECAUSE OF YOUR RACE, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, OR RELIGIOUS PREFERENCE.

It would be my pleasure to serve you. All we are trying to do is serve great food, by friendly people, in a clean restaurant. If you haven't come into one of our Chick-fil-A restaurants, please come by and be our guest. Thank you for reading and I aplogize for the length.

Well,
I lived in the city Truett Cathy had his original restaurant in and go out of my way to find Chik fil a when I travel. They hire people of all backgrounds and do not fire non christian employees. I have a gay family member and they feel the same as I. I have met Truett many times, he spoke at my wifes graduation from a major state university. They give millions to organizations of ALL sorts, some christian, some not. They close on sundays so their employees may attend church if they wish, but do not force anyone to do so. The Childrens books and other things that sometimes carry a christian message are optional. Of course we must all draw our on conclusions and decide who we will and won't support, but I ALWAYS do my homework and make infomed decisions. There is not a chain store or restaurant out there that does not have a skeleton or two in the closet as there is only so much control over the thousands of individual franchisees out there, so I also don't hold an entire company accountable for the actions at one branch unless I confirm it is based on company policy. McDonalds is sued hundreds of times a year for various forms of discrimination etc. Hardees is the chain formerly known as Sambo's who changed their name and symbol after many lawsuits.

And don't forget the amazingly fast service. Chick-fil-a is one of the few restaurants that I don't hesitate to go through the drive-thru no matter how long the line is because it moves so fast. Always.

As someone with very little patience, this counts for a lot, especially in conjunction with the great food! And I personally like the "character building" books they sometimes have for kids. The ones I saw never screamed any right-wing religious propaganda, but simply pointed out some general advice about the Golden Rule, be honest, kind, etc.

Definitely my favorite fast food restaurant.

Sorry, but I can't support a company that is connected in any way with the anti-gay organization Focus on the Family.

FYI Sambo's was a sit down restaurant much like Denny's. It was not quick service like Hardee's.

Thank you for your post!

I have a couple of questions that I would like to take more time with, but I am actually on my way out the door to lead worship at a church downtown :)

So,

1. Is this the first post you've posted or did you feel you had to change your name to post?

2. I did go to the website and they do support Focus on Family, which to my mind doesn't mean they are focussed on their families, but are instead lined up against "our" families, something I know about from 25 years ago when I was part of an activist organization that helped defeat the Family Protection Act.

Gotta run!

Hardees is not Sambo's. As OrlandoMike said, Sambo's was a table service chain of restaurants. The chain was purchased by an investment company and closed, like many other well known and popular restaurants (Howard Johnson's, Farrell's Ice Cream, etc.) Hardees actually merged with Carl's Jr., a former fast food restaurant that specialized in Roast Beef in California and has since been switched to the Hardee's style of typical fast food items. It is Hardee's in much of the country, but operate as Carl's Jr. on the West Coast.

Carls Jr. & Hardee's even have identical, yet separate, websites.

Sambo's, Howard Johnsons, Ferrell's............now there some blasts from the past! Disney should recreate some of these places! (Well maybe not Sambo's) but Ferrell's would be cool!

While it is a fun idea to have Disney re-create these nostalgic food chains, I can't even begin to imagine what they would be charging for a Howard Johnson's Clam roll :rotfl2: All of these restaurants were inexpensive and aimed at the family or traveler on a budget...seems to be the opposite of what the Walt Disney company is doing...

Growing up, I seem to remember HoJo and Farrell's as some of the pricier restaurants in our area.

I didn't realize this side of Chick Fil A until this thread so I did a little research so I could make my own decisions. And what I found was the following:

Truett is one the largest funders to Focus on the Family which does NOT support equal rights for gays, gay adoption or gay marriage. They are quite clear on that and were huge supporters in Colorado in Amendment 2 which prohibits equal rights in marriage for homosexuals and also disallowing civil rights protection for gays and lesbians. That is a huge statement in representing a large organization and one that quite honestly disgusts me.

His own website states:
Cathy is a devoutly religious man who built his life and business based on hard work, humanity and biblical principles. Based on these principles, all of Chick-fil-A's restaurants operate with a "Closed-on-Sunday" policy, - without exception.
I can't argue with that. I don't find anything wrong with being closed on Sunday. Heck, the Bible states it's the day of rest! But to run one's business based upon biblican principal is a very slippery slope and is not inclusive of other religions or those that follow them.

It's clear he does indeed enforce his own beliefs onto his business and as an American I support that. It's his business, not mine, and he is allowed to do so. And as an American, I will continue to support my own decision to not patronize his stores.

As for your other points in terms of his great work, Berry Collge is one the largest liberal arts Christian colleges in the US. Winshape Camp is Christian camp ground.

Your message on this thread, however well meaning, was quite nice I do have to say. Your position, though, only reflects your own and not the corporate culture.

I truly do support one's right to practice whatever religion you choose. I don't find one better than the other. I just find that when one decides to use that religion as a weapon or as a means to recruit others into the fold, or to use it to separate out other people who aren't "true believers" then I have a problem with that person and not the religion. In the case of Truett, I have a problem with him so he won't be getting my hard earned dollar ever again.

Focus on the Family:scared1: ....enough said.

And I am sorry if this comes off rude but I am feeling a little sassy today for some reason….(maybe it is the carry over of the drag king show we did I don’t know…..) Anyway I am sick of people who feel that we should just look past the fact that a business supports these types of organizations. As if what they believe is actually no big deal. No big deal my rear!! Why on earth would I ever want to support an organization that wants to destroy myself and my family? And for someone to come over hear on this board and tell us otherwise is just insulting…..

I told you I was a bit sassy today….maybe it’s the rain. Or maybe they should just focus on their own damn family and leave mine alone.

Actually, Beaches and Cream reminds me very much of Farrell's! Remember the PIG'S TROUGH? Very much like the KITCHEN SINK!

Oh My Gosh! I loved Farrels. We used to go to one in Springfild (VA) mall. I never ordered the pigs trough, but it was fun to watch other try to get through it.

I have never made a decision to patronize or not patronize a business based on social pressures. If I haven't said it already, I am starting now. I will not patronize this company. I may be one of only a few, and I am sure that no one will change the corporate culture, but I feel better knowing I will not be part of it.

Ok running a corporation based on biblical principals is a bad idea as far as I am concerned. If every a staff member told me after I order god bless you or whatever I would politley tell him I do not believe in god and there is only evolution God was made up. Sorry we are not a religious family and there is no place for GOD in our house so please don't bring it to me while I am trying to eat. as for focus on teh family who are they to say how a family should be made up. I have a wife and 3 soon to be 4 kids but why should anyone begrudge a gay or lesbian couple from the same basic righs and priciples that we get damn glad I live in Canada and gay couples are legaly able to marry atleast our government gets it.
