CHICAGO Distance Classic -- August 12, 2007

Cam - Yes we are at that Hilton also. So we can "hang" out together. I thought Carrie was also staying there.

I will make DH wear a WISH shirt so I (we) can see him if he is able to cheer. I am sure the girls will make him sleep in tho!!!

Oh and Cam and anyone else who is at the Hilton - We will have to meet in the lobby and walk over together in the morning. That will be more fun than waiting by myself!

Hi guys,

I did my 7 miler yesterday. Approx 16mile/min. I started questioning why I thought this was a good idea:) . So I just kept telling myself "don't think, just walk".

Anne, I am happy to see you are coming to chicago. I will gladly join you at the back of the pack. I would hate to be there myself. :thumbsup2

I am still working on finding a sitter for saturday dinner, but at least I have one for sunday. I am no help on restaurants, we don't head to the city much anymore unless it is for a museum, millenium park etc.. So I really don't know hotel/restaurants. I bet if we call the Hilton they would give suggestions.

Take care,
Maggie

We're at the Hilton also...looks like a great location, close to lots of cool stuff. I'm meeting my best friend from high school on Fri, but we have no specific plans. Sat we're pretty open, but I do want to take Kaley to Navy Pier and down the Magnificent Mile. Is the popcorn place anywhere near there?

I've only been to Chicago once. Does anyone know of a place where we could all meet for dinner on Sat?

If anyone wants to PM their cell phone numbers to me, I'll make a list and distribute to everyone.

All my plans currently surround tomorrow's outcome. I'm nervous today about my podiotrist apt. for tomorrow afternoon. I'm hoping all goes well and it won't be a painful experience. WISH me luck.

Thanks Mel, I've sent you mine.

Maggie - How old are your kids?? Mine are 4 and 6.5, so if you can't find a sitter just bring them along. I am sure there are plenty of kid friendly places.

Jen, the boys are 3 and 5. I wasn't sure since it was mostly adults if kids were welcome. Thanks for reminding me your kiddos are joining us! My son, 5, has a life threatening allergy, so I am limited in sitters that I am comfortable leaving him with. So my sitter list is very short. I am just happy that I have secured a sitter for sunday! Did you say you were leaving for WDW the week after? We will be there 8/15-8/19.

Lily, my fingers are crossed for you. :wizard: I hope good news is coming your way!

Off for a morning walk.
Take care,
Maggie

Maggie - Mine are both girls... so they could have dates!!!:rotfl: Anyhoo, yes we are leaving for WDW 8/18-25. My girls don't know about it yet, but my oldest is suspecting something. It's a last blast back to school thing we are doing for them. When we went in January they didn't have a very good time because my in-laws came with. So we got awesome deals on flights and rooms and food and saoid "why not". I'm a little concerned about the heat, but really really excited to go.

We'll be at the HIlton too!

Woo hoo Anne!!!!!

Arrival on Friday is yet to be determined. Saturday, We could do breakfast or lunch and a 5:30 or 6 dinner. DOn't know if that's too late fo everyone, though.

Jen, my boys like older women! Don't worry they are being raised to be gentlemen! :rotfl2: My boys don't know about the trip either! I bought them little lightning McQueen suitcases to be packed for them when they wake up. We plan on telling them when they wake up that morning. I was there in August once before. It was hot hot hot! But still fun. We just took things nice and slow, cooling off whenever possible.

Maggie

Mel -- I sent you a PM with Howard and my cell numbers.

Lily -- thinking of you today!

I am so sorry the list in the first post was so out of date. I didn't mean to leave anyone out. If your name is missing, please send me a PM. Also, I tried to post whatever information I had regarding where everyone is staying. If your information is incorrect or missing, please send me a PM!

4 1/2 weeks to go. DW and I are looking forward to seeing everyone. I don't know downtown Chicago very well. I'm sure there are a few restaurants near the Hilton, maybe we can meet at the expo and head to a nearby (within walking distance) place to eat. Any time is fine for us. Any ideas? I'm up for anything (Pizza, Italian, Mexican, Thai, American, really - anything - well maybe except Sushi). What do people like, does anyone have food allergies that need to be considered?

Andew - No allergies in this household, but I know I we'll want to stay away from spicey or something new to us. (These bumpkins have never had Thai) I'm thinking American, Italian or Chinese seem safest to me.

No known allergies, though DD is allergic to grass ;) Love Thai, Mexican, Italian, American, Chinese, would like to try real Chicago pizza, not a fan of sushi (raw fish is just not good microbiology :sad2: )

Here's a list of restaurants on the Magnificent mile. I think that's near the Hilton.

I think the Magnificent Mile is a little ways away. I found this on the Hilton Website. If you click on the food types, it will give you the restaurant and distance from the hotel. I don't think there will be a problem finding something.

Oh and no food allergies in my family. My kids can be picky at times, but I am not even sure they will join us for dinner (unless Maggie brings hers and needs a distraction!).

I'm up for any opportunity:

From the link it looks like Ginos is a 1.5 miles stroll. It is a Chicago experience.

Gino's East of Chicago

RIVER NORTH. Chicago-style pizza has won droves of ardent fans, and this restaurant is probably the downfall for most of them. Just try to resist the irresistible, deep-dish Chicago pizza with oozing cheese, rich sauce, and fresh toppings from its crisp, cornmeal-infused crust. The spacious dining room seats 500 but still the lines form, and people eagerly await what is considered the best pizza in the town (or maybe anywhere). The ambience is casual with graffiti-covered walls (no profanity!) and dark booths. But people don't come here for the environment; they come for the pizza. You can even take a frozen one home if you call ahead. No reservations. Casual attire.

Oooo Lily! That sounds great!! I love Chicago style pizza! Count me in for Ginos! I'm sure my DH Andrew (Sir Bouncealot) would agree too!

Hey guys! Even though I've been horrible about posting and should be banned from the WISH team for life, I just had to get on here and tell you guys that Krista and I are definitely in for Chicago. We had been on the fence about the weekend, but just decided this weekend that Chicago is a YES. So we'll see all of you there. Gino's sounds absolutely awesome if anyone else is up for it!

We'll be coming in Saturday morning (should be to the Hilton by 11am) and we're up for dinner with all of you Saturday night, then the race on Sunday morning, and we're heading back to Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon.

Krista just told me she wants a hot dog from a street vendor in Chicago. She said that's all she "must have." Sounds like a good post-race recovery meal to me. :)

Talk to you guys later!

Steve

Stephen (and Krista)... YAH I am so glad you are coming. We are arriving Saturday also, hopefully before noon if I get the kids moving early.

I will join Krista for a post race hot dog. I love those street vendors!
