Chicago Cubs fans - Rebuilding Year 2023

I have a 4 letter response. (It’s “nope” in case you were wondering :p)

So has anyone ever attended Cubs Con?
I have not been lucky enough but my old neighbor did...they loved it. They attended all 3 days when they went and said it was fantastic and being in a hotel full of Cub fans was a blast. They moved out of state or I would ask them for more detail, lol. I remember they liked getting to hear/see the players throughout the weekend

I just scored 3 tickets to the convention! They were $128 each with all taxes, fees, etc :headache:. That's $12 more than last year (I couldn't get passes last year).

Passes are all gone now.

My son VInce and I went to the very first one in 1986. We went one day, Saturday. Riding the exuberance of the 'almost' 1984 season and a rather lackluster 1985, the then Director of Marketing, John McDonough (a true marketing guru and now president with the Blackhawks), came up with the idea for a mid off-season fan convention The first several years they were held at the Regency Hyatt House in Rosemont. We went to another back in probably about 1995, then held at the Chicago Hilton and Towers. For that one we stayed at the hotel for a Friday and Saturday.

Pro sports' off season fan conventions are now almost universal with the various sports.

Congratulations, Robin, enjoy!!

Oh, so I'm going with YOU not Dan? Cool!
Yes, Robin, not me.

Congratulations, Robin! Looking forward to hearing about your experience.

Doc, you crack me up. :rotfl:

*Happy* Free Agency ~ let the pitching aqcuisitions commence. Rumor has it Cueto and Bum are staying with the Giants (not surprising given the season they had, better money to stay than test the waters) and that Rays wll make a QO to Cobb (lets them have control of trade or draft options for him) and Tanaka opted to stay with NYY, putting the Cubs in the who do we give up heartache even for a reliever) Dodger's not looking to want Yu back so that leaves Jake as the King of the SP pool. He will be too lengthy/costly (& esp with Bos gone) so the fear of him going to La La Land is real. Dodgers about the only team who can afford Jake AND re-sign Kershaw next year. Only thing I see holding that up is the length of deal. Jake threw his there no-no there and does well in CA historically. Given Jakes uber successful play off success vs the Dodgers "so close", you know they want him. Apparently so do the Brewers tho. Jake would be like, their whole payroll in Milwaukee and Cub fans would be helping pay for him since we buy more tix there than Brewer fans. Lots of pitching FA NEXT season...that may be the Cubs W.S. return one. Not a lot of closer's out there either..will be interesting to see if Wade remains Cub.

I like Wade. I hope he stays. I would love for Jake to stay but if he goes to the Brew Crew I just might pop in for a game or two to see him pitch.

I htink s LOT of people will, which is what the Brewers will love~Cub fan's funding Jake's contract. I think Wade would stay with the Cubs it is just a matter of $ again. He isn't getting any younger and for sure we will need either Wilson to figure out his issues or get another 8th inning guy as CJ is almost there but not for back to back games. I am really hoping Hickey is the missing link to getting CJ away from those walks.

The Verlanser's look like they are OK with missing the Astro's W.S. Celebration/parade

Didn't listen but read the text ... OH HELL NO! to Ozzie Guillen. I don't want his ilk anywhere near my Cubbies. He is horrible on so many levels. And I don't was Samardzija back either.

You no like the Shark? He was more like a guppie when we had him :rotfl:. AND it would mean losing JHey in the process?

Ozzie...we all know where I stand on Sox blood. I completely agree on your statement. I have to hope it is merely drama fodder, to distract from any likely candidate being revealed.

I'm trying to remain calm and not read into things, but JHey (who rarely posts on Instagram) put up tons of photos today and I will be crushed , I mean CRUSHED if it's his way of saying he won't be a Cub next year. I hope he's just going through his phone before switching to the new IPhone X

Goldschmidt won the GG for 1st base over Rizzo :sad2: Le Mahieu over Zobie for 2nd base. JHEY WON HIS 5TH FOR RF!!!!!!WOO-HOO!!!!!upload_2017-11-7_20-28-56.jpeg

and rumor has it Lackey ISN'T retiring!:cool1:(No idea how valid or if he would stay with the Cubs but I hope so)

Couple thoughts:

1) Dodgers won't sign Jake. They are trying to get under the luxury tax so they can make a run at Harper next offseason.
2) I'm not opposed to the Cubs trading JHey. If they're able to do that, I have a good feeling about possibly getting Harper in 2019. He and Bryant are very good friends.

Notwithstanding Bryant and Harper being friends, that is NOT a good trade in my book. I think Harper is an arrogant BLEEP.
Pretty bad when I have to bleep my own post.
