Hello everyone! As I am a Disney fanatic, I am already planning our next trip, all the way in December of this year (boo hoo, too far away!) :rotfl2:
While at WDW, we will be celebrating my daughter's 5th birthday. We would like to do a character meal to celebrate, but I need some advice: Chef Mickey's or one of the princess meals? Would love to hear any and all opinions, or if you think there is another meal that's even better. We have already done Crystal Palace and Garden Grill, and would like to try something different. Thanks!

5 year old girl -- princesses all the way! I'd chose Cinderella's castle but for princesses that means breakfast or lunch - I think you'll only see Fairy Godmother at dinner. But there's always Restaurant Akershus in EPCOT if you're looking for dinner with princesses. Both princess character experiences are great. If it's specific princesses that you're hoping to see that might help you decide too. I've never seen Jasmine at the castle but we did see her at Akershus and I don't think Ariel ever shows up at the castle either. We've seen Snow White, Aurora , and Belle at both places.

Be aware that the dinner at the Norway restaurant is Norweigan food and somewhat different if you're not used to it. The first time we ate there I thought it was okay, last time I just didn't like it that much. My husband eats like our Beagle but thought it was really gross. I might suggest 1900 Park Fare for dinner. That is in the Grand Floridian, has Cinderella, Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming plus a prime rib buffet. Chef Mickey's is great for kids but there won't be any princesses there. If your daughter likes Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins than 1900 Park Fare has a great character breakfast as well (but no Cinderella at breakfast).

have you done CRT?

We did a lunch and the atmosphere was wonderful, plus our girls got to dress up!!! princess:

CRT had a recent run up in price. Bear that in mind. I thought it was worth it at the old price one time. But at the new prices, I wouldn't have thought it worth it.

My DD is doing her 5th at WDW this June! It's so much fun planning it for her! :)

On her actual birthday, she's got an appointment at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique in the morning, followed by lunch at CRT and dinner at Chef Mickey's. Right now I'm planning on ordering a personalized cake for CRT and just doing the cupcake at Chef Mickey's.

She's the most excited about the Boutique - I highly recommend looking into it if you'll have time when you're there!

Thank you all so much for your feedback. One question, what is the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo Boutique, and where is it located?

It is in DTD slated to open in April I believe.

While the salon begins offering enchanting makeovers and pampering services for youngsters ages 3 and up starting April 5, guests can call now to book appointments at 407/WDW-STYLE (939-7895).

Fairy godmothers-in-training will offer the royal treatment using shimmering makeup, hair styling and nail polish. Prices ranges from $35 for hair and makeup to $175 and up for hair, makeup, nails, plus choice of a Disney princess costume, accessories and photo package.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is located inside World of Disney. Hours of operation will be 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. daily. Walk-ins are welcome; however, reservations are strongly encouraged.

Regarding CRT's, I know I've been saying this on many of my posts but I'm just shocked as to what they've done with the pricing to include a photo pkg (I think you should have a choice as to whether you want them or not like the other restaurants). They now charge $21.99 for a child!! For Breakfast and $32.99 for an adult and it's due in full at booking time and the food is nothing to write home about, doesn't include a filet mignon!!

We're just back this week. We had our first Disney meal to kick off the trip at Chef Mickey's and we were so disappointed. The wait was over 45min. although we arrived 10 min early for our ADR. The staff were rushed off their feet and we only saw our server twice. The food was terrible - it's the same standard buffet at other Disney restaurants but looked and tasted like it had been sitting under the heat lamps for too long. The salads were equally as nasty. We saw the characters only once and had to wait for quite a while to have them come to our table. The family next to us said they had finished their entire meal before the first character came by so had to sit for an extra hour over coffee while waiting. The server was not impressed his tables were not moving.
Needless to say we wouldn't recommend Chef Mickey's to anyone.
