Hi all --

We are staying at Bay Lake Tower next month, so we are are considering going to Chef Mickey's for breakfast. On previous trips, we have gone to Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare for breakfast. To be honest, we thought both were terrible. Bad food, chaotic environments. On the other hand, we really like breakfast at Boma.

What do you all think of Chef Mickey's? Based on above, would we be likely to find it similarly disappointing to CP and 1900?

Thanks for your input.

I think Chef Micky's is the worst of the three. I found Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare to be much better than Chef Mickey's.

Chef Mickeys is very good, runs neck and neck with CP in my opinion...1900 PF is pretty ick

If you are trying to avoid bad food and chaotic environs, then you should stay away from Chef Mickey's. About the only thing it has going for it is the presence of the iconic characters.

I think that all three are equally chaotic environments, and I don't think the food is particularly great at CP or 1900, with 1900 being the worst. CM I think has decent food, especially for breakfast. I have not had breakfast at Boma, so I cannot compare the other three to Boma. Food wise, I think CM has the best of the three.

The difference between CP, CM and 1900 PF is minimal. The menus are very similar, the quality of the food is very similar, and they are all chaotic and loud. My DH really hates character breakfasts and we always argue about whether we should be doing them (I take the viewpoint that the kids like them and actually eat something - they are definitely breakfasts kids and eat more at breakfast than at otehr meals...but I digress...). Having said that, I thought CM has the best characters, with 1900 PF having the worst characters. Also, 1900 PF had the worst check-in line. CM also had a couple of breakfast "casserole" dishes that I don't think the other two had. And since you are staying there, you would not have to travel from somewhere else. So, it may be worth a try. Just don't expect peaceful atmosphere and delicious food.

I have found the key to the character breakfasts!

When we arrive within the first hour of the restaurant's opening, the breakfasts are wonderful (both food quality and atmosphere).

If we arrive any later, we find that the hot food is cold, items are not well stocked, etc. Sometimes the omelet station is even gone. Also, after the first hour, the restaurant is often chaotic and not as clean as at opening.

We have had some success with late meals at the restaurants that serve food family style, however.

But the buffets, especially if it is a busy time of year, are not as good after the first hour of business.

I have eaten at all three, for me the only one I would go back to is 1900 Park Fare.

For me, CM ranks far behind CP and 1900 PF in food quality.

I think Chef Micky's is the worst of the three. I found Crystal Palace and 1900 Park Fare to be much better than Chef Mickey's.>> I agree.

LOL. Oh dear, If you werent impressed with 1900 & CP, then i'd stay far away from CM's. As others have said, CM's is far far far far far far worse than 1900 & CP. The food at CM's wasnt even warm, it was lukewarm. And they had a terrible selection. The only good thing were the characters, even thou they took forever to see, they were pretty great. I'd skip it if you didnt like the other two.

All Three have a very similar environment with characters and a buffet. May I suggest The Wave, it is at the Contemporary and it will be more of a relaxed environment than Chef Mickey's. It does not have characters and it does not have a buffet. Look up the menu it is very good.

:goodvibes

Sorry you did not enjoy CP -- it our favorite character breakfast (we've never had bad food, we've seen all characters in a timely fashion). We've never done 1900 PF at the recommendation of a good friend whose judgment I trust 100%. Chef Mickey's for breakfast is okay, but not nearly as good as CP in our opinion or Cape May. And it is 100 times more chaotic than CP ro Cape May.

Yeah, I agree. If you didn't like 1900 or CP, than chances are CM won't do it you either. CM can be very chaotic and rushed and the food is basically the same.

We like CP but found CM to be pretty awful. I would stay far away if I was you!

Just out of curiousity did you have breakfast or dinner there? We are going to do the EMH's on Aug 26 at the MK and are looking for dinner places. The only things we could get was CM and CP nearby that we would consider. I'm thinking the CP dinner will be way better but looking for more opinions on the dinners at these 2.

If you didn't like CP or 1900 Park Fare, then you will really HATE CM. We love CP for breakfast and really like 1900 Park Fare breakfast so I may be a little bit biased. CM, on the other hand, we did not like (have been to both dinner and breakfast) the food was so-so, the characters were rushed, and the service was horrible. We won't be doing this again for a while.

My thoughts exactly! We really liked 1900 PF and CP wasn't that bad but dear Lord, CM was the absolutely worst character meal and breakfast we had during our last trip.

Having only been to Chef Mickeys and 1900 Park Fare for breakfast, my choice would be Chef Mickeys. We thought 1900 PF was ok, but wasn't anything to rave about. Chef Mickeys, on the other hand, has always been great for both breakfast and dinner as we've eaten both every trip since 2001 and have never had a bad meal. I can't comment on Crystal Palace for breakfast, but the one dinner we had there was horrible.

I've never been to CM for breakfast but have for dinner and it's the same basic setup as CP and it's nothing like Boma. If you want to stay on the monorail but want a little different character experience, go to Ohana at the Polynesian. It's a family style breakfast with Micky, Pluto, Lilo and Stitch and we really liked the food there. I don't mind the buffets, but I do think the family style meals are better.

Having said that, character meals are for the characters, not typically for the food, so keep that in mind. Even CRT is more for the atmosphere of the Castle as the breakfast we got there was pretty much the same as the one we got at Ohana (but without the delicious juice you get at Ohana!! :drinking1 )
