Cheetahs in AK

My dad and mom will be joining us for their first trip to WDW since 1972! My dad is not in good health though and was told by his doctor not to do the safari in AK. He really wants to see cheetahs though and I can't remember if they are visible on any of the trails? Has anyone seen them outside the safari ride? Thanks!

Just did both trails and there were no cheetah's. the Cheetah area on the safari ride is actually covered right now so even going on Safari right now you will not see any right now.

I found them hard to spot even on the safari. They are often laying in the shade, asleep.

This was my experience on 3 trips with multiple rides per trip. They're not too interested in being photographed...unlike today's celebrities.

I haven't been to the Central Florida Zoo, but their web page indicates they have scheduled "Meet the Keeper" sessions with the cheetah keepers, so that may be your best bet.

I don't remember seeing them the last time I was at the AK, over a decade ago. I have seen them more recently at the St. Louis and Toronto zoos, and in both cases, they were distant and difficult to see. Like all cats, they sleep a lot, and why bother running around when your humans can be counted on to provide food.

As others have mentioned the only place to see them in AK is on the safari. And they can be very hard to see - often they are back in the trees. IF you decide to do the safari ask for the front of the truck - it will be a smoother ride than the back. I adore cheetahs and love going on Kilimanjaro Safari but I would not risk my health to do it.
