Cheerfully child-free. Anyone else?

no flames or anything but I'm just wondering what any of you would do if you got pregnant? Just curious :)

I lived a VERY careful life before a giant ovarian cyst made the whole question moot.

Thank you for this post. My DH & I have been happily child free for 7 years, but now we want to change that. Most parents make it seem like you are in for 20 years of indentured servitude if you have kids. I was beginning to doubt it was even possible to have kids AND have a life!

Your welcome!! I don't mean to hijack this childfree thread btw :rolleyes1
Don't believe people when they tell you how horrible things are (most of the time ;)) If it was so horrible then they would have stopped at one. It's just like childbirth...everyone sits there and tells you how totally horrific and agonizing it is, especially at baby showers for new moms :headache: (a pet peeve of mine), but its really not that bad. Its what you make of it. I have found that there are some moms who just have issues and they throw every centimeter into their kids. They make them bfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, wipe their butts until way after they are able. I onec knew someone who wouldn't let there 9th grader stay home alone AND they made all of his meals/snacks, etc. b/c she didn't feel like a good mom if she didn't. :confused3

To the childfree people, these are usually the people who take offense to your decision to be child free. I just believe that it is totally possible to have a great and fulfilling life with or WITHOUT kids. Everyone is different and wants different things, so people should stop trying to conform people to the way "they" are.

OH, and....today we went shopping for Fathers Day! The hubby got himself some new cologne; Polo Romance SIlver and Polo double black, plus we finally dropped some of his shirts off to get tailored. We went to a salon and I took the youngin' and shopped while he got his hair done and he took the youngin' while I got waxed. Oh yeah, and we got Chinese, mmmmm. Tommorrow we're eating out for Father's Day. ANd now, I'm going to lay down and read this new book I got called the sugar solution.....has anyone ever read it????? I'm what they call pre-diabetic, so I need to stay away from sugar as much as possible. So far it has great stuff.......

Again, sorry for hijacking the childfee thread :rolleyes1

Thanks for bumping this thread....I'm glad to find it.

My husband and I have been married for 11 years, we're in our early 30s and have good jobs and a stable life but, we're very happily child-free (not child-less...there's nothing "less" about it for us) and plan to remain as such. I've never had much of a maternal instinct and one trip grocery shopping at Target this afternoon pretty much cemented why we aren't interested, lol.

I'm glad some people want to have children but there are plenty out there to make up for us skipping that particular exercise. :)

What is it about Target that attracts kids that have meltdowns? LOL!

Really, I have yet to be in there when I *don't* hear a screamer! And they can be heard clear across the store and it's a BIG store- it's one of those "Greatland" Targets in my neighborhood!

Try working there! I'm working part time there 3 days a week and it is meltdown central. I actually asked a mother if her child had been injured yesterday because he was screaming so much I really thought that he'd fallen and hurt himself! She said "no, he just wants a toy." Working at Target is better birth control than the Pill-a few weeks there and you won't let a man within 10 miles of you!!:lmao:

In college I worked at The CHildren's Place!! So I know your pain.

This weekend was our 18th anniversary, and we took a long weekend to a nice hotel and spa. We had a lovely corner room and I was thrilled with how quiet it was. yes, there were children at the hotel, but I certainly didn't hear any of them at night. :cool1:
Lots of people have asked us "the secret to a happy 18 year marriage"... I always say "Love, Friendship, and Committment", but I honestly believe that being child-free has allowed us to focus on our relationship, and that we would argue and fuss with each other if we had kids. So it was a great decison for us.

That's the news station my mother watches!! I hope she sees herself in the "I want to be a grandmother" category.

Ahhh, I found this thread again! It's so nice to meet other like minded adults, and let my guard down for once.

Every week, if not everyday, I get asked when we are having children. We will be married 10 years this March, and let me tell ya', we are further from having children than ever. I am just sooooo tired of the comments, How do they know I am not infertile? Oh my personal favorite is "who is gong to take care of you when you are old", I usually respond with "your kids". That shuts em' up! ;)

Oh, so agree, Target is some major birth control. I am personally counting down the days until school goes back in session, and I can get my quiet afternoon naps back. My neighborhood is kid central. Certainly one day they are going to all grow up and move away. Right?

Since all of you are married and for anyone else that is married you might want to check out this thread. We have had it going for about 2 years now. We are all in the same boat over there.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the link! I didn't even think to go to the "solo or couples" board to find CF people!

Re: the question of "who will take care" of me when I get old- the answer is OTHER CF PEOPLE! We CF people can find each other, bond, and look out for one another in our old age!:goodvibes

We'll have our own home, where we won't have to hear about grandchildren every stinkin' day.

We'll talk about books, movies, Disney trips, music...everything but little Johnny's ability to put blocks in rainbow color order.
