Check In - Disney Gift Cards for Expenses?

Can you put a Disney Gift Card down for expenses at your resort? I really wanted to pay for everything with Disney Gift Cards if possible, but I don't want to carry them around.

When you check in online, you obviously can't use those, so can I check in online with my credit card and then when we arrive make payment with them?

We did this last year. The CM told us when we checked in to charge everything to our room and then just pay your bill with the gift cards. But, very important, you need to square your bill up the night before you check out! If you wait until the day of check out, they will automatically charge everything to the credit card you put on file. If you go down the night before, they can apply your gift cards to the balance and then they charge whatever is remaining to your credit card in the morning
