Cheap wine thread....

What a great thread! I am sitting here right now with a plate of pasta and Kangaroo Ridge Chardonnay. It goes very well with the pasta. I got it for less than $6.

Crane Lake is a great cheap wine. It's selling for about 2.50 a bottle. I wouldn't have even tried if not for my daughter's friend, the wine-seller/snob who recommended it.

I used to live in PA and forgot how difficult it is to get a good cheap bottle of wine!

There are several Michigan wineries that have good wine at reasonable prices. Tabor Hill Demi-sec & Demi-red at $8 a bottle, Fenn Valley - about the same. These are my favorites right now.

We get Beringer White Zin for about $4.50 a bottle.

Love the YellowTail Shiraz (5.99) and some of the other Australian Wines.

Hi, I love wine, but I know nothing about it at all, lol. I don't buy it, its usually when we go to friends house for dinner and I have a glass. I know I like a sweet wine, fruity maybe. I've tried red wine and I don't really care for that. So....I'm sorry if I'm sounding like an idiot, but what is the difference? Can you give a recommendation of what I should purchase? We are hosting Thanksgiving dinner so I need a good (inexpensive) wine that is sweet and fruity:) If that makes sense. Lol, I'm just so confused!

The Georg de Boeuf Beaujolais Nouveau is in and it is exceptionally good this year. Perfect with a turkey dinner at just $9.99 per bottle.

For everyday wine with dinner we like the Vella Merlot in a box (yes, in a box, no chance of getting "corked" wine!). For about $13 it is the equivalent of 5 standard bottles. We did our holiday wine stock up shopping at Joe Canal's on Sunday. Got one Vella box and eight or so bottles of different wines for a total of $92. Yellowtail, Little Penguin, Goats do Roam, etc.

I strongly recommend Kendall Jackson Vintners Reserve Chardonnay. We can get it on sale sometimes here in NH for around $10. Normally it's around $13-14. It's excellent and would go very well with Thanksgiving turkey. I also vote for the Yellow Tail Shiraz for red. I prefer a bolder, deeper red, but most of my red tastes (i.e., Bordeaux) don't qualify for "cheap wine" unfortunately. The Shiraz is lighter and fruitier and very good.

I absolutely love Tabor Hill. It was what turned DH and I on to wine in the first place! The Demi-sec is great, especially for those who like their reds on a more fruity and sweet side. And if you ever visit Michigan, and want to go to a Winery, Tabor Hill is the best. It's off the beaten path, but a really great winery. They have a wonderful restaurant that serves the best raspberry chicken! Michigan has a great wine trail that can take you to the many wineries in Southwest Michigan - St. Julian, Tabor Hill, Fenn, Karma Vista...all really fun places to visit!

Too bad I'm pregnant - a glass of Merlot sounds wonderful right about now.... :teeth:

I like the Kendall Jackson mentioned above. It runs $9.29 at my local CostCo.

I also like Fat Bast### Chardonnay. Runs in the $12 range. (Fill in the blank,.... I know that name won't get past the censor)

My favorites
the goold old jug of Paisano
and
Luna De Luna - 9.99 but usually on sale for 7.99. Lots of varities, beautiful bottles and they all taste good.

This is great red wine - it seems that they blend a little of this and a little of that. It sells for about $10 per bottle.

I love Joe Canals. By the way Barbeml, I used to live in Hopewell, NJ. Small world huh?

JanKris is another great, inexpensive red. I'm very fortunate to have a discount liquor store in my area that carries an excellent selection of wines, and have the cheapest prices I've ever seen. Jan Kris usually runs me less than $7, and I'd guess you'd find it for about $10 most other places.

I also like Bonny Doon's Big House Red, which someone else mentioned.

Cellar 8 is another nice, inexpensive red--also about $10.

Sounds like you may enjoy a White Zinfandel or a Riesling. I like Sutter Home's White Zinfandel, but I generally prefer dry, red wines to these kind. Chianti Classicos are generally my favorite wines.

Another sweet one is icewine, but that is usually pricey.

The difference between red wine and white wine....red is fermented with the grapeskins, whereas white wine is not. Reds are also served at room temps, whereas whites and blush wines (White Zinfandel) are served cold.

Well, great, now I have to go back and type a list of all these wines! :teeth:

Actually, I didn't care for 3-buck Chuck ($2.99 in MO TJ stores), but it was fine for cooking. My recent fave is slightly more expensive than I usually buy but is still under $10 on sale (I think it's around $13 regularly)--Pas de Deux's Menage a Trois. It's a perfectly wonderful dry red blend.

I'm also really picky with my Chardonnays--I don't like KJ VR, but I love Camelot. It started out a KJ wine, but now it's just packaged under the Camelot label. Usually runs around $7-9, and it's one of those oaky-creamy-fruity- buttery coastal chards. Yum! I just about won't buy another white, because I'm always disappointed.

I'm finding that the cheap red blends (Black Swan Cab-Shiraz or Cab-Merlot, Yellowtail, etc.) are very drinkable. I think the blending helps any off-flavors.

I also really like da Vinci chianti & Bolla Sangiovese--but run away if you like 'em sweet. These are NOT that! :p

Cheap wine.....I love Arbor Mist (My BF says it's not real wine. But it tastes great! I don't really like the taste of "real" wine, too bitter!

:drinking1 Party time is fast approaching and I thought we could all use some inexpensive wine ideas.
Our favorite is
Pepperwood Grove Merlot or Cabernet(under $9) people always ask what kind of wine it is and think it is expensive when we serve it.(we are big wine drinkers and used to serve Hess at our parties now we serve this instead to save some $$ and people like it just as much)
So your favorite cheap wine is........

Coppola (yes, Francis Ford) Claret ..... $12 - $14 bottle and it's perfect!

I like the KJVB Chardonnay. I can get it for about $9 in NC.

I buy Chateau St Michelle Reisling by the case at Sam's and I think it runs less than $7 per bottle. We also drink Cavit Pinot Grigio. I also purchase the larger bottle of this wine at Sam's. When we splurge, we buy Erioca. This is a reisling produced by the Chateau St Michelle vinyard in Washington. It is around $17 per bottle, but well worth it. Now if only I could find Moet at a bargain price!!!

Our favorite Champagne is calle Verde. It's under $5 a bottle and is the best we've ever had. It has a slightly sweet taste. It's all DH will drink.

I love Verde

I can't find it here though :(

Sure is a small world! We have two Canal's stores in the area and I LOVE them. Great selection and prices. I just grab a cart and fill it up!
