Cheap wine thread....

Yes, my DH loves the KJ Chardonnay. He also loves the Happiest Celebration on Earth Chardonnay, Buena Vista Winery, Carneros. We have been trying to squeeze a case out of Dave down at ABC in the Loop here in Kissimmee, but no luck yet!

But, alas, I am a red wine drinker. So, if I bump this up a notch, I love Chateau St. Michelle Cab or J. Lohr, or Liberty School for really good, drinkable wines. I believe they all range about the $13 a bottle range. Life is too short...you know the rest! I had a really good blend last night at Jiko. Clueless as to its name! But the glass alone was more than I spend on a whole bottle! (oops, wrong thread-bumped it up too much, didn't I?) Well, shoot me, we are celebrating the purchase of a new home. Wait till the first mortgage payment!!! The nerve of that mortgage company. They want that kind of money EVERY MONTH! Okay, back down to the under $10 bottles!

My favorite wine is Beringer White Zinfandel, about $8.00 a bottle. LOVE it!!

This is my favorite too but it's only about $6.00 here :)

Yep, I used to love it in high school. LOL. Sorry. I know, shoot me.

I open a bottle of Kendall Jackson for myself but when we are having company, especially if it is my family and my husbands father, I buy Stone Cellers Shiraz and Pinot Grigio at 3/$12....I usually buy 12 bottles when they are coming over. Honestly, they would drink rubbing alcohol if I put it in a nice crystal glass so I stopped buying them $10 bottles of wine a few years ago when the cheaper descent wines became more common. It is nothing for them to drink a case!

I think an interesting topic would be, how many bottles of wine do you have at home now, ready to drink? We probably have 15. Anyone else?

We drink em so fast, we can't keep up! I told my DH that we just spent $700 on wine racks, it'll cost $2000 to stock em!

LOL

It's expensive to be a wino!

Some of our favorites (all under or around $10):
Yellow Tail Chardonnay
Barefoot Zinfandel
George de Boeuf Beaujolais Nouveau (we first bought this on our honeymoon at France in the WS and have loved it ever since!)
My new favorite, I am currently out of so I am not sure of the winery, but it is a German Riesling that comes in a blue bottle with the word "Relax" on it. It is from TJ's (of course!)

I just discovered Mirone (It looks like Miyone on the bottle). It is a Red, Spanish table wine. Delicious and it sells for between $8 & $9 a bottle in Delaware.

I'm bumping this back up, as it has some great info on wines! :thumbsup2

I had the brilliant idea to get my sister a few bottles of wine for her birthday, as she is hard to buy for, and LOVES wine. I knew I remembered seeing this thread, and did a search for it. I've gotten lots of ideas!

Some great wines:

Alto Pass Shawnee Gold
Alto Pass Heartland Blush
Pomona Orchard Spice
Blue Sky Molti Bianchini
Genkota Three Dog White
Genkota Thunder Chicken
also Ridge Red but I can't remember the winery

All are wonderful sweet wines....

Got another one:

Pheasant Hollow Black and Blue,

most of the wines I've listed are under 10.00 bucks, the most expensive is 11.99

Okay, I hate white wine, but my fiance loves it. He has become quite the expert. His favs are Cakebread and Far Niente. HOWEVER, at those prices, we shall not discuss them here. He just tried REX GOLIATH 2004, and he said it was very good and to order him a case to be kept at the house in Florida. I found it down here in FL at B-21 in Tampa for $5.99 a bottle, and then 10 percent off a case. So, not bad. Me? Still trying to find a good bottle of Cab under $10, but I just seem to hover around the $11 (J. Lohr) to $13 (Chateau Ste. Michelle) range.

I love the wines from the San Sebastian Winery in St Augustine!! Our Publix sells their wines too, their vinters white and vinters red are just great! Both run about $8.

I live in the Willamette Valley so we have amazing wines and about four wineries within a two hundred mile radius. Any Riesling from the local wineries rock. Nationally though, I like Barefoot Zinfandel for a cheapo wine. My Best friend lives in WA state and has been turned on to the Shiraz (I don't think I spelled that right)...I am not that crazy about reds...how do you combat the headaches? Seems like no matter how little red wine I drink (never had less than one glass at one sitting :rotfl2: ) I come away with a headache.

This is Me and my best friend...I'm on the right as you see it

I am doing the Stem to Stern wine tasting with her in September on The Magic...how do you avoid headaches? :confused3 I don't want to be limited to whites and rieslings for the rest of my life...

Oh, you lucky dog...the northwest! That's why I love eating at Artist Point! All those yummy Oregon and Washington Vineyards. I had a glass of Kiona Cab the other night there, and it was yummy. I am trying to find it around here.

Sorry about the headaches! Actually, I get headaches from WHITE. So, there ya go! I heard the tannins in the red give you headaches, but I guess I have built up an immunity! LOL

Me too! I have not seen them at our Publix (in Miami), but thanks for mentioning it... I will be in the lookout for them.

Just subscribing to this bump-a-licious thread!

We are headed down for food and wine for the first time this year!

Firestone Winery has some good wines...gerwerztermiener (no idea how to spell it currently) is outstanding. Can also be had from the normal cheap wineries. It is prob my fav.

For the beer drinkers, Firestone also has some outstanding beer!

surely there's some more wino's out there???
