strange...I don't recall pushing on theat little pom-pom chick
That kinda thing happens to me once in awhile too, like phantom smilie inserts!

Ok, just back from school. DD got to meet her teacher and I got Alec switched. We are actually going to try him out on full day (1/2 day was just 2 1/2 hours). I figure the part about kindergarten that scares me the most is speaking and peer relations, so I am hoping that full day will 1 open him up to more school resources and 2 help facilitate more play time to meet peers.

We actually met a teacher who was showing him his room, and let Alec know that she would see him a lot because there is a special needs girl in the class who will get a lot of attention. I told her he was special needs to and then it clicked (she thought I called him Alex) and she quickly knew who he was, and said that she would be working with him too :yay:

Ok stupid school question, what kind of sandwiches do you pack?
I put an icepack in their lunchbox and send either a meat sandwich (usually turkey deli-meat type, but sometimes leftover steak or chicken) or pbj. DS4 loves pbj but has a classmate who is allergic to darn near everything, so they ask that we not send peanut butter sandwiches to school. (At that age they kids will sometimes share, or just touch each other with food in their hands, which would be a major problem for this allergic child.)

I used to send DS7 to kindergarten with Lunchables because he loved them so much, and I thought at the time that they were more nutritious. Turns out that: A) They're very fatty! and B) When I went to the classroom at lunch one time, almost every kid there had a Lunchable! It just made me sad. So then I'd occasionally let him take one as a treat, but tried to make him a more nutritious lunch after that.

Soggy bread is alot of why we use bagels....or I put the bread alone in a baggie and they would put their sandwiches together when they would eat...I also bought one of those little hot bottles and would put pizza bites or something like that in them and they were still warm....

Bagels sound like a good idea, maybe I should buy some and try it tomorrow for lunch and see what they think. My kids are not super picky - I just dunno. I know DD could handle making her sandwich, but DS is doubtful (and if he could it would make a horrible mess). I guess I should probably buy some wet wipes for him, he will make a mess no matter what. I am just so nervous for him - and don't want him to have to deal with a cafeteria line.

don't be lost...Alex called me OLD...:lmao:

I see.

You nut!!! I am sure I am stressing this way too much. With DD I knew she could handle whatever, but DS wouldn't even be starting school yet (in my opinion) had he not been in a special needs preschool :confused3 .

Costco (used to, not sure if still does) sells mini-bagel, perfect size for a little slice of pepperoni, if your kids like that. (DS7 doesn't, but he likes the cute mini-bagels anyway.)

I make the sandiches up in the morning, and they're eating lunch within 2.5 hours; but it would be hard if I had to make them up the night before. I would think that would get soggy, bleah!

I did not! :rotfl2:

Didn't you know? Forty is the new 30! Especially since I'm 45... :lmao:

my kids also always liked cheese and crackers, pickles....and from time to time chicken salad on a bagel....

I stressed about it, too, when we first started. Some people send horrific stuff, all fatty and sugary, I was stunned! Like one kid had a Lunchable with mini-corndogs or pizza bites or something, then a super high sugar drink, chips, and he had not one but TWO super high sugar treats!

And yes, he was a bit of a behavior problem. He reminded me of Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes, remember how he used to eat "chocolate frosted sugar bombs"? :lmao:

We used to get the small Lunchables, that just had crackers cheese and meat in them, then I'd send it with a milk carton and a piece of fruit (grapes, orange slices, banana, something that's fairly easy and not so messy to eat.)

Ok - thanks for all the ideas. I will have to run them by the kiddos and see what they think. DD loves PBJ, but I can't send that on a day I send her oranges. They both used to love chicken salad too. I think our Safeway sells mini bagels, I can throw something on that and we should be good to go. I work tonight, but have tomorrow off. We will go shopping and pick out some stuff. Good news is I am stocked up on snacks and drinks, just need some fresh fruit and a sandwich :thumbsup2

I can't believe my DS is going to be in kindergarten :sad1:

I sure hope Jake is doing okay today :grouphug:

Yep, I was kind of shocked by all the junk DH bought from Costco. Hence why I think the snacks will last a while because they will be picking just ONE every day to include with their lunch. There is no way I am sending them with all that junk :sad2:

Looking out for his teacher I should look for ham (with nitrites) and omega 3 mayo for DS. Both are good for behaviour problems :thumbsup2

Yeah, DS7 was asking me today about the difference between full-day and half-day K, and that reminded me that today was Jake's first day. I hope he's doing OK. And Shawna, too!

my 17 year old son is out school shopping....his pants need to be fixed when we buy them and I have no time to do them this year so he called and ask if he should take them or me....uhhhh...duh....I won't be wearing them and if you want them adjusted to the length you are I believe you should drop them off....he is so skinny and short....its impossible to find pants that work......

on the up side...I found it great to this year (first time ever) to say...here is school clothes money....you have to buy 4 new pairs of jeans, shirts you want....boots.....and bring me proof you bought all this...;)

I have to say he called me all excited...mom this is what I got...this was the cost...did I do good...heck yea...he did great....I expected a call saying I need more:rotfl2:

Now if I can get the big one moving....

I've never heard of Omega 3 mayo! Isn't that the "good fat" that is in salmon, avocados, etc.? DH needs to try to eat more "good fat" instead of bad fat, but has to stay away from nitrites, I believe... not that he does terribly well with that... :rolleyes1

DD's new school has 3 microwaves in it...ahhhhhhhhhh....leftovers..........:cool1:

when sister mary told me that I was excited because this schools lunches i think are expensive...

her old school was $1.50 per day...the boys I gave 3.00....because lunch is 2.00 and extra milk is 1.00...(big bottle)

her new school is...3.75 average...its all alacart......

Oh, one more thing about lunchbox contents: I try not to send anything too smelly in their lunch. I remember when I was a kid there was this girl who brought pickled pigs feet one day. She opened up her lunch, the smell was overwhelming, and (I am not exaggerating) she CLEARED the lunch room! :lmao:

I used to get teased for bringing tuna sandwiches, and I don't think the boys like them anyway, so I don't send tuna. Plus I'm always worried about the ice brick keeping it cold enough. I use these Medela bricks (that came with my breastpump!) because they're the perfect size and very slim. But don't tell the boys! :rotfl2:

It is made by smart balance - there is a mayo, peanut butter and butter. Country Crock just came out with an omega 3 product too (butter). And yep it is the good fat.

Good point. Good news is they prefer chicken salad to tuna - and they will not be getting any pickled pigs feet anytime soon. And I won't tell your kiddos :scared1: :rotfl2:

DD loves tuna...but some of her friends do also...they would take it once a week.... but chicken salad is her favorite...

sometimes that little nut had me cooking eggnoodles for her to pack...she loves them....

EVERYONE will also gag...but this kid likes liver

That's awesome! DS is just starting to pay attention to his clothes. We looked at jeans at Walmart the other day, Wranglers. Of course there are several different styles (loose fit, carpenter, classic) and different washes (oy!) I prefer the classic fit, I don't like the super baggy look. So I kept looking for Classic in his size but didn't find any. He says, "Mama, I like the loose fit best!" (Last year he had a bunch of carpenter style, which were kinda baggy, and I think one or two classic.) So I bought him 4 pair of the loose fit in two different shades.

On the plus side they were about $11/pair! He is just moving into a size 8, thus moving into the same range as teenage boys, so all the ads are for $30-$40 jeans! :scared1:

I'm going to keep my eyes peeled at the Gap, last year they had a great sale of 2 pair/$25 (though this was the smaller size range), and also OshKosh, where I tend to get a lot of their clothes.

I wish DS's school had microwaves for the kids. Not that he'd know how to use it, I guess. But I wish he could have hot stuff. I was actually looking for one of those wide-mouth thermoses, thinking I'd send some soup or something on a cold day, but I LOVE your idea of putting warmed up little things in there! Do they get too soggy, or do they hold up fairly well? Would be a nice way to get rid of leftovers, like pasta or casserole.

Yeah, we use Smart Balance butter. I don't think I've seen the COuntry Crock one... Or maybe I have? I grab whichever one has the lowest fat content of all the heart-healthy brands.

I"ll have to look for the mayo! Not that I let him have any very often, but sometimes he insists, and I give in. With that, I wouldn't feel so bad... :thumbsup2

I told him 300.00 had to cover all of it....he said jcpenney had a sale on his levis for 32.00 a pair:scared1: it was cute...he was calling from the fitting room...

every year I go and try to guess the sizes and make a million trips...last year they had me miffed so I said no more...from now on I give you the cash and go do it yourself...so far so good...

the older one I will have to get a mall gcert....or jcpenney so sears tool dept isn't where he spends his school money...he would buy a pair of socks, underwear, and a pair of jeans and pocket the rest...I am on to him:lmao:
