Charging on Room Key

We are staying in a 2BR for our upcoming trip and there will be two families in this 2BR. Can we have two separate charge cards assigned to our two room keys so as families we can charge separately?

If not, can we differentiate between the two room key charges to the rooms by asking for a printout at the desk? THEN, having family #2 add up their charges and 'pay' separately periodically throughout the trip?

When you check in they, like other resorts, will put a hold on your charge card account for $1500 or more in some places. You will charge againsit that hold until you reach the limit, then you will have to ask them to put another hold on if it goes beyond $1500 or $3000 whatever. They will only do this for one credit card per unit. As for paying toward your charges while you are still there, I believe it can be done, but I have no experience with that. You can get a print out of your charges anytime you wish, HOWEVER, I would suggest you do not do what you are planning. Someone will be using your credit if you have both families charges on the same unit key. This can be a problem, when it comes to trying to figure out who charged what, remember you are resposible for the charges. You can get keys that say "no charge privileges" on the card. That is what I do with my guests. It is the best way, trust me on that.

When you get your bill printout, it will list the key #'s for each item charged. Each key has the same number except for the last #. So you could identify their items and add them up. If you have express checkout, be sure they go to the front desk and pay their items the day before you checkout. Otherwise, on checkout morning the entire amount will be charged to your card.

Anytime I have gone with friends, we didn't use the room charge. It's easier to just let everyone take care of themselves.

The answer to the first question is no. You set up one credit card for the room.

The answer to the second question is yes. Every card has a suffix number, 01, 02, etc. and it will be very easy for you to distinguish who bought what.

In terms of paying periodically, sure, they can do that.

At check out time, you can use as many payment methods as you would like: Cash, Disney Dollars, multiple credit cards, etc.

Interesting. What if we don't plan on using our room key for charges? Can we say no thanks? How would they handle check out then since the stay would be on points? Would we have to physically check out or will they still do express checkout if there are no charges to the room?

I too have heard you can pay the charges as you go along, but personally have never done that before. I just wanted to note that each card has a different last number so you can tell who charges what by that number that is listed. Like my friend and I rented a water mouse together on her card (she just got it out quicker than I did) and I could see the *********02 instead of 01 on the end to know it was hers that was used. That's a way you can keep track of it too.

Absolutely yes.

You would handle check out the same way you do in a hotel - go to the desk and pay your bill.

I don't know if you can do express check out with no charges to the room key, but I would assume yes since the bill would be zip.

You probably won't have much of a bill if you don't leave a credit card when you check in, LOL.

IIRC, the only things that could be on it in that case would be extra housekeeping services and phone charges. Since we seldom if ever use those things while we are there, we get to check out with a zero balance. And Express Check Out works just fine for those times.

Just love my DVC!

On our next trip we plan to give my wife and I charging privileges, and no charging privileges to either our children or our guests. The guests can use their own credit card whenever they feel like it. That way there's no big reckoning at the end of the trip, and express checkout will work fine.

I have been saving up our spending money and our nights at PC are paid for, our tours are paid for, etc. I don't want to be tempted by having a credit card to spend extra on. We have two trips this summer there and I don't want bills after we get back home from either. We usually don't have a bill at check out. We take our cell phones. It sounds like i won't be leaving a credit card unless they make me.

WE always check in with a credit card number on our account and no charging privledges for our guests. In reality, we rarely use our key to charge anything except meals at restaurants that have DVC discounts. Otherwise, we just use the credit card itself, and our guests use their own credit card for their purchases and meals.

That was interesting to learn that each key has a different number on your room charge card. I just want to say once again that any resort can charge your credit card company in advance of you checking out. They give you a set limit, without telling you, they put a hold on the card for that limit, when it reaches that limit they charge the company, and start over again. Years ago I found out about this when I stayed at the Disney Inn. They gave me $3000 there and when it reached it, I was told I would have to go to front desk, where they gave me another $3000. Putting holds on cards is really an automatic thing at most resorts, they have to be sure you have the credit available for the charges. I believe the amount charged at DVC is $1500, but I don't recall ever having to go to the front desk at DVC to approve an additional $1500. Just don't be surprised when you go to pay your bill that your credit card was already charged for part of the bill. They are just trying to protect their money they have coming from your credit card.

You are absolutely correct. And, this occurs all over the place. Pay at the pump? There is an authorization transaction first, which is then cancelled once they know how much gas you bought.

The base amount Disney authorizes against your card is $1500, and then they are SUPPOSED TO authorize another $1500 if you hit that limit. On my last trip, something went haywire with that system and a merchant in MGM would not accept the room key from DW for charges as we were approaching the limit. So, that one went on the Visa, and I asked the front desk to get an additional authorization. First time that happened.

I want to be sure. Our 2 keys can be able to be used as charge cards AND the others in the 2 bedroom unit can have cards without charge privileges? Provided we set it up this way.

That's correct, and that is what we usually do.

We will have three rooms in our name. Can we put the room we're in on our credit card for charging purposes, but then, say my BIL puts his card on his room and have his own charging priveledge?

I called CM a few weeks ago because I wanted DS and DIL to have their keys tied to their charge card and DH and mine tied to ours for our 2BR stay at BCV. I was told this could be done with no problem. However, when we arrived the CM at the front desk said only one card could be used per unit. So we ended up all using ours and settling up after we got the room charges upon check-out.

I wish CMs would just have the same information.

they are just a different color and allow no one to charge. room keys can be dangerous if lost without knowledge as no proof of identity is required especially at pool bars .

I agree...we just use our credit card. I've never understood the big plus about charging something to your room. ???

Since they are separate rooms, you can use separate credit cards.

The problem arises with a 2BR. This is a single unit for purposes of registration and charging, so only a single credit card can be linked to the room. You can still split up the charges at the end of the stay.
