Toasters

When I got another cup of coffee, I looked to see what we have. We have a Hamilton Beach toaster now. (yes I know it might seem a bit redundant to have a toaster oven and a toaster, but I don't like making toast in a toaster oven) Anyway, we have had this Hamilton Beach toaster for a few years now. Not exactly sure when I got it, pretty sure it was pre-Covid. I got it for $5 at one of those "treasure hunt" type stores. It hasn't been used daily, it sees a lot of use for sure. Never have a problem, and it is still going strong.

For small appliances I’d go with a Hamilton Beach or Black & Decker, with as few digital features as possible. The prices at least will be reasonable and expectations should be, too. Nothing is made like it used to be and fancy features actually shorten the expected span of usefulness. :(

So you don't need a toaster with a built in picture frame and wifi. ;)
Only $459:

It is getting out of hand - I saw recently a dishwasher that has a lot of features that only work if you hook it to wifi.
I have an entirely separate network just for these IOT things - but its still ridiculous IMO

I agree, who needs their home appliances to be on the internet? There is a washing machine that sends you a text when the cycle has ended...............LOL. If you aren't home, then it won't matter. If you ARE home, just walk over to the laundry room after an hour and move things to the dryer.

Good luck getting any type of service when these internet based appliances have an issue. You will likely play ping pong between the company who made the appliance and your internet provider with each saying the other is responsible.............no thanks !!! I suspect the appliance repairman will say they don't deal with connectivity issues.

I just bought a new washing machine that has internet access -- notifying when loads are finished or machine is off balance, allowing a delay start, etc. I have no intention of using the internet feature and won't even set it up. However, when all 5 of our kids were little and I was doing loads of laundry every day, I probably would have set it up to notify me when the load was finished because I can't tell you how many times I was trying to keep the laundry moving and forgot for hours that I had a load sitting in the washer just waiting to be moved to the dryer -- and our laundry room is on the main floor of the house where I can easily hear if either machine is running. We never leave the house with the dryer running, so it was important to keep the laundry moving efficiently during the day because we were often running to kid activities in the evening.
