Charging on room key - what if lost?

What happens if you lose your room key that has charging privileges? Can someone else use it/steal it? Do they ask for ID each time you use it?

Thanks!

Report it stolen or lost to a guest service area right away. I never remember being asked for ID because it is used as your resort ID. If reported stolen or lost it can be deleted and a new one issued. I hope this helps.

I've noticed that WDW cm's are pretty consistent about checking the signatures on the ID vs the receipt.

I don't know what kind of protection there is if someone does steal your card.

We've charged resort gift store purchases and restaurant meals to our room. I seem to remember that each time the CM asked for our room number and then "swiped" the card. I assumed that this was done (in addition to the signature check) to assure that the room key really belonged to me by comparing the room number info on the card with what I said.

I agree that it's best to treat that room key just like a "real" credit card and to report it lost/stolen as soon as you notice it's missing.

I know the answer to this one because I left my room key at a restaurant once and they couldn't find it when I went back. Just report the loss to your resort and they'll make another key for you. The new key will have a different number on it and the old key will be voided. No problem!

Just be sure and let everyone else in your room know that your card has been reissued. We had that experience last year. My husband went back early to the room and his key wouldn't open the door so they just reissued his card. However, it voided my card also and my charges that evening kept being rejected by the computer everywhere we tried to use it. It was frustrating not knowing why until we got back to the resort. They had new cards waiting for us but we didn't know it until we asked the front desk.

LOL my DBF lost his in SeaWorld as he just had it real loose in his pocket - well after I nagged at him for being so silly - I just rang the number printed on my card and told them and then he went and got his re-issued when we got back to the resort.

We enquired at lost and found at Sea World but they hadn't got it but half an hour later after getting back they rang to say they'd had it handed in and did they want us to cut it up - yes please :)
