When you do the character dinners, they tell you to place the kids on the outside of the table so they can get up and interact with the characters. My 2.5 yr old dd liked seeing the characters but did not want to be near them so we stuck her on the inside of the table and b/w my dh and me. She smiled and pointed and clapped but did not want to take pics with them or get up from her cozy booster seat. My other kids did all the pics and stuff with them. At CP, the characters every once in a while do a parade around the restaurant with any kids that want to join in. My older kids liked it but not the toddler. The little ones just like being there and seeing Pooh and friends walk around, and the characters are very good about waving to them and making an effort even tho they know the kids are a little scared. So, I think it's worthwhile even if they don't want to stand right near them. I got pics of the big smile on my dd's face as she watched and pointed from afar! Just my 2 cents.
