i have a convertible for 3 weeks 28th june to 19th july with Dollar, but after reading reports i am thinking of changing, has anyone done this and if they have what would they change to and does it cost extra, Approx? also would you change your booking here or wait till you arrive there.
my holiday is booked with Virgin.

It tends to be cheaper to make changes here before you go. When you get there they will try and sell you an upgrade whatever you have booked, usually they go for the next class up, but I am not sure what they would go to from a convertable.

Yes, a convertible tends to be the most expensive car - it's more expensive than a 7 seater, and then you go to those big van things like they used to have on the A-Team! Not sure if you had a convertible, you would want one of those.

Did you book directly with Dollar, or is your car part of a fly drive? I should imagine you could contact Dollar now, or even wait until you get there - they would probably be delighted to offer you a different car without any charge, since you would have paid for one of the more expensive cars.

In my experience, when you're at the desk, they are pretty flexible if you've changed your mind or fancy something else, but it might be worth giving them a call beforehand.

Good luck!

If you change your booking here you will probably have to pay the £25 per person amendment fee.

I would contact Dollar and ask their advice.

yes that is true - I would be inclined to go with kristie's advice to be honest.

Any reason you have decided against the convertible? Because of the heat or the lack of boot space?

We changed our car with virgin last trip before we flew - we had to pay £25 admin fee (just one) to do it - but we saved far more than that because the car we changed to was in a lower bracket and the insurance was cheaper. We made the change the week before we paid in full.

thanks for all the advice,
Kristie we got a convertible for the first week because Virgin give you one for staying in certain hotels, so i decided to just take it for the 3 weeks , but then reading on this site about the space so have been podering about this for a few months and now have decided we would be better with one that had more luggage space, so its the space rather than the heat Miffy.
Going to email Dollar tonight will let you know what they said
thanks again

Good luck :) Let us know how you go :)

I don't know about everyone else but i wouldn't touch a convertible purely for safety reasons. Many times at traffic lights i've had beggars, flower sellers and screen washers approaching my car.I like a roof between me and them.
Perhaps i'm over cautious.
