Changing a reservation from a non dvc resort?

At really the last minute I have managed to get back home to the world in the last 2 weks in Aug. However for the first 8 days I could only get into Fort Wilderness cabins. I was just wondering is it worth calling MS to check if any availabilty had come up at a DVC resort and if so can we switch over the reservation. Not certain how it works in switching from a non dvc resort.

If you are using points for the cabins, those points cannot be used at DVC resorts now. I think they are called "reservation" points.

I think that FW cabins are lovely, no washer and drier, but very much a home away from home in other ways. Since you don't have halls or common wall neighbors, they are quite private.
