Wow.... I wish my employer's stock had done that "poorly" in the last couple of years!!! ;)

Publix stock just split 5 ways not too long ago, so I have 5x the amount of stock I used to have.:thumbsup2  Part of My Dividend is paying for my August trip.:woohoo:

Yes they are overpriced, but we have to go back to supply and demand Disney will charge what someone is willing to pay. If you are willing to stay offsite you can get a nice room for a fraction of the cost. you can go on a 10 day cruise for $600 a person when a disney cruise is $800 for the same type of State room, But the disney ships get booked and they are adding more.

That's what puzzles me. They have to discount their rooms to keep them filled and yet they keep raising their prices.

Thats Because Fools like me see a discount at WDW and jump on it. I am going in Sept paying around 4K for AKL deluxe Sav view , and the reason I got free ddp . I know I could have stayed off site at a great Hotel paid for meals and spent less$$$. It's a sickness........

There's a big difference between spending a lot of money and gambling a lot of money!

How so? The money is still leaving your pockets. Do you think either business cares how they get it as long as they get it in the end?

Regardless of where or how I'm spending my money, my money is disappearing. I can buy a drink, rent a room, see a show, play the slots or tables and leave my money at a casino; or I can buy a drink, rent a room, see a show, buy a park ticket, and leave my money at WDW.

Either way I'm broke in the end. :rotfl:

Because theoretically Disney has to give you something in return. In Las Vegas you are essentially giving them money for nothing.

I don't see this happening - discounts this year have been few and far between, and not as deep as in years past. They are raising prices because they have forecasted that they can. My prediction is that next year you will see even fewer discounts barring any unforeseen major events.

Disney measures everything! They have one of the largest customer management systems in the world, and they track as much info about every customer as they can. The 'Key to the World' card makes everything very easy for us - and for them! Just think - from the moment you receive your card, (that is probably tied to all of your previous visits), they know what resort you are at, how long you are there for, how many previous visits you've had, who you've traveled with, if you've used the dining plan, where you've eaten, what parks you visit (and if you use Fastpass), how much you spend on souvenirs and snacks, especially if you use your card for charging to your room. If they ever tie PhotoPass to your room reservation, they'll know what you look like too.

They also do a tremendous amount of surveys.

They can then use this massive database to forecast just about anything they need.

Scary eh?

I have to disagree. Some people get more pleasure out of gambling than going to a theme park. So in a theme park you pay for a ticket to go on the rides. In a casino I pay to gamble.

And at least in a casino, if I'm really really really lucky, I can walk out of there with a large jackpot. You can't say the same for WDW.

Have you checked Mousesavers? There are many discounts listed there. WDW will always discount their rooms or else there will be tons of rooms vacant.

Maybe not a cash jackpot, but with YOAMD, anyone can win a biggie :wizard:

Many?? :confused3

The only one there that isn't a standard discount is the UK promo. Otherwise, it's just AAA, AP, Airline & FL Res. If they had a ton of rooms to fill, then there would be more promos out for the general public.

Those may be the discounts that can be booked now.
Last spring they had a 40% discount for certain dates in August and December (it may have included September as well)

That's still not many.....The AP & FL Res discounts were kept at a minimum, just like last year & that's the perfect way to gauge how well WDW rooms are selling.

By The Way, I love that pic of your son, it reminds me so much of my dd when she was younger :)

From MouseSavers http://www.mousesavers.com/historicalwdwdiscounts.html

In 2004, there were:

- 15 public discounts
- 6 AP/FL res discounts

In 2005:

- 7 public discounts
- 7 AP/FL res discounts

In 2006:

- 7 public discounts
- 7 AP/FL res discounts, some AP discounts were limited to certain resorts only

In 2007, so far:

- 4 public discounts
- 4 AP/FL res discounts, again, some AP discounts were resort limited....

The 40% discount was only offered to certain people via email or pin codes, it wasn't a public discount.

This happens in the industry frequently (pricing variances based on the nights.) Many hotels price their rates based on the night booked(where weekends are higher.) I do not like that they may be doing this, but we will see how this turns out when we get more information and official word on it. Disney already has minimum stay requirements in their system (you just don't realize it frequently because they will show something as not available, when in actuality it is if you stay longer.) Disney is good about concealing the minimum stay requirements they have to where most people do not even realize they are there.

I guess the rooms are filling again enough that they do not have the need to offer as many discounts as they did shortly after 9/11

Back a few years ago there was plenty of discounts to be had and the MouseSavers site was full of them. There's just not that many to be found like there was in 2002 and 2003. Disney was really trying to fill the rooms during the post 911 travel slowdown, not so much anymore. I remember Disney came out with that great stay for 7 pay for 4 package in 2003 and it came with the Ultimate park hopper. It was a great deal and I wish I could have gotten in on it. Travel still must have been slow in 2004 because they re offered the package again but as stay for 7 pay for 5. Missed out on that one too. Story of my life though. ;)

Disney sees that travel and attendance is up and they're trying to squeeze out every dollar they can. I personally think it's a mistake to gouge the loyal consumer who goes to WDW on a regular basis, but sometimes management gets short sighted by the quick buck to be made. Consumers usually don't forget how they were treated when big business feels like times are good enough to get every dollar you can.

In my experience, hotels are always more expensive on Friday and Saturday nights. Disney was an exception to this rule. And while planning our next road trip to Mackinaw City, MI, I am still finding this to be true. For example-

Super 8 hotel $188 Friday and Saturday, $138 Sunday, $178 Monday, $188 Tuesday, $168 Wednesday and Thursday. And each of the 11 other hotels I have checked have the same rate ups and downs.

I understand that a trip to Disney is not cheap (believe me, I understand!), but I will wait and see what the actual rate changes are before I get my undies in a twist. Why worry about something until you know what you really have to worry about???:confused3
