Changed from Kona to WCC. Will I regret it?

I think that DH and DBFF will enjoy the skillet better.

We're having LTT and GG - both are definites and will stay on the plan no matter what. Our other meal is at Sci-Fi, which DH has been dying to try.

Three family style meals, though (since DH and DBFF will get the skillet?)

Maybe men don't care... but I think that it won't be as much fun without nicer sit down meals :rotfl:

As it will be DBFF's first trip we're making it all about him. Tell me I'll still have fun too at WCC!

Well, I don't know for certain whether you'll regret it, but WCC is the only restaurant in all of WDW that I found to be so unpleasant that I'll never return. The skillet, with the exception of the brisket, was nearly inedible and my DW's food was equally bad, the antics of the servers were so tired and pointless, the ambiance was not to our liking, and overall it was a negative experience.

Kona Cafe, on the other hand, is one of the most underrated restaurants in WDW, in my opinion, and is quite good. I haven't been in a few years, which is an entirety in the life of a restaurant, but it seems to still get great reviews, so it seems to have kept its quality high.

Therefore, my preference would be to keep Kona over WCC, but you'll likely get just as many opinions telling you to keep WCC, so it all depends on what you want and what you think you'll enjoy the most.

It is a possibility. We have dined at both and prefer Kona for quality and service, but how will you know unless you give one of them a try?

If you think your party will enjoy the skillet better, who cares what a bunch of strangers think? :)

Hmm - I probably agree with A Princess' Daddy...you are comparing apples and oranges in terms of dining experiences.

The WCC skillet has gone down in recent years. Or maybe we are tired of it. We go there every couple of trips because we love WL, sometimes stay there, sometimes just do one of the restaurants. The antics are definitely to be experienced at least once!!! For that reason alone, you should go!

On the other hand, Kona is a formerly hidden treasure that we visit every trip. We share the crab cake and love the beef dishes as well as some of the seafood. The desserts.. well .. they get a display of their own! The service is excellent and I have spoken to the chefs there more than once (I am allergic to fresh pineapple) with delightful results. Plus, the Polynesian is an easy trip from anywhere because of the proximity to MK. My daughter ate (and finished) her first prime rib at Kona Cafe 5 years ago and we've been "regulars" ever since...

Just my .02 - enjoy!

I'll jump on the bandwagon, drop WCC like a hot rock. Go anywhere else!! But seriously, you know your group better than us out here. If you"ll have fun, live it up.

I agree with everything that you said here. Kona Cafe is our favorite place to eat while we are there.:thumbsup2

I will also add that we went to WCC once, about three or four years ago, and I always ask if anyone wants to go back for our upcoming trip, and they never do. We will be skipping it again in May.

I first went to WCC about 12 years ago and loved it. Two years ago I returned with my dh and dd 4 at the time. she hated it. It was too loud, we had to wait ages to be seated and the food wasn't what I remembered. We will never go bac k. It is on my dd no go list. Kona on the other hand is a fondly remembered experience. We had a quiet lunch, without ressies, I might add then strolled down to the beach to play and watch the bay lake activity. Great day. Go for Kona.

It's really tough to compare the two, they're so different in food and ambiance.

The primary focus at WCC is the antics of the waitstaff....that's really the reason to go. The food is good enough, I haven't tried the skillet, though. If you think the group would enjoy the teasing, stick pony races, singalongs, etc. that they do there, that'd be a reason to stick with WCC.

IMO, Kona's food is way, way superior, and I prefer the quieter atmosphere and love the Poly's tropical theming.

I don't know if you're on the dining plan and if so, would consider a two-credit meal, but have you looked into Artist Point at WL? It's got plenty to satisfy a carnivore :), but has a much nicer atmosphere than WCC, and much better food.

I totally agree with this. We have eaten at Kona 2x and were very satisfied. Service was great, food was great, and both times we were there it was not crowded. This is definitely one of the underrated restaurants, I think because people are always going to 'Ohana.

We went to WCC one time and weren't impressed. Service was extremely slow. I think the food was ok, but not anything that made me want to return.

Definitely go with what sounds better to you. The only way you'll know is if you'll try!

I guess the questions are--do you want to see the "antics"? Or can you stand the antics when you're trying to eat??

We went to WCC once for breakfast and vowed never to go back.

But as others have said, you know your party and it may just be what everyone likes.

But not me:)

Thanks for your input everyone!

I do think that DH and DBFF will love the atmosphere of WCC.

We are on the dining plan and don't want to attend any 2credit meals this time around.

I really appreciate all of your answers - even though now I'm even sadder that I gave up Kona! Haha!

Oh man, no way would I ever go back to WCC...it was sooo nasty! DH had the skillet or should I say the fat pan because that is what it was filled with! The only thing that was good was the cornbread.

We went for lunch and we didnt see any fun and games at all except for the horse races

I have to agree. The only good thing about the skillet is the cornbread. Kona however is awesome!

Definitely Kona - and it is only 1 credit if that is what you are worried about. My DH and DS15 absolutely LOVED their meals a Kona, ask to return each trip, and always have enough food that they love. We also do a few buffets and family style, one sit-down is not a problem, it is a great break! But that is my family!!

I've been to both and loved both. The whole family did, in fact!

DH says...."mmmmm, meat!" :rotfl2:

So, if your menfolk are all over the skillet, they won't be disappointed. Kona was my personal fav though...too bad you couldn't fit it in. Ah well, it's a reason to go back, am I right?

My choice would be Kona. Absolutely love the place!
