I was thinking more about Fauci's "plateau" comments and I have some thoughts*:

1. Let's say we do plateau around 50,000 cases a day. Okay. Remember that those 50k are overwhelming younger and healthier than the cases previously.
2. Remember the big problem was space in hospitals. Today, the hospitals are not overwhelmed anywhere and we have far better treatments than a year ago.
3. 60% of the over 65 population in this country is now vaccinated. These are the folks who would have been hospitalized and possibly died.
4. Every day we are vaccinating another 1% of the population. Literally, the odds are reduced by that amount every single day of more deaths and hospitalizations.

*I have some thoughts about literally everything. Just ask.

Note on point 2: literally 15 minutes ago, Eli Lilly announced that its phase three trial on its antibody drug was successful. It reduces the chances of hospitalization and death by 87%.

The trial group was entirely high risk, recently diagnosed people.

This all makes sense. Im just tired of Fauci and how wrong he is most of the time, and I sense he knows his time of fame is nearing the end...LOL.

About the plateau at 50K it really is a combo of the effects of the PCR tests being adjusted to not catch as many false positives and not having vaccinated as many younger...its just gonna take a little bit to really get down to closer to zero at this point but I suspect we will still see decline just a slower rate for the next couple weeks.

For some reason the whole point keeping hospitals from being strained has been lost.

I posted recently that there was a ton of money on the sidelines in America waiting to come back into the economy. I took a little heat, because I wasn't sensitive enough to the fact that many people are still struggling. I get that.

BUT...Norwegian just announced that last week they had their biggest day for bookings in the history of the company.

As a side, did you see Disney had commented at the Investor day (yesterday) that they believe that the cruise line will start up this fall.

The obesity issue is definitely a hot potato and for people who never struggled with it, it seems simple to address, eat right and exercise. I have been overweight almost my entire life. When young, there were periods where I got down but had a hard time maintaining it. As I hit my 50's it was such an incredible struggle and I actually blew out a knee from exercise at one point.

In the summer I got deathly sick. With a high fever, they thought I had Covid, but tested negative. I ended up in the hospital a few days as I was so very sick. Running tests, they found I had inflamed organs, an irregular heartbeat, and blood platelets had dropped to 42,000. They determined I had some type of viral infection. I was seeing multiple specialists for a month or two until everything came back to normal levels.

The weird thing, is after I was sick, I started dropping weight like crazy. With no effort. It was bizarre. It kept going and going. I lost about 45 lbs in less than 5 months. I actually had to start eating more. That illness somehow affected my metabolism as well. It was one good thing that came from that time and if someone could figure out how that happened, they could make a fortune!

I know this is a Covid thread but people who have never had an issue with weight think it's just a matter of eat right and exercise. And yes, that is so very important, but, there are other factors involved that can have far greater impact then you would imagine.
So true! Also obesity can be a sign that something else is wrong in your body but you don't necessarily have a "disease" that doctors can diagnose. You may be missing certain minerals or nutrients or you may have a toxic overload of another substance that can be throwing your whole body off. There are many great health coaches out there these days that can work with people to review these underlying deficiencies and toxicities. Just look at with COVID how they didn't really stress that Vit D levels played a huge role in who had serious illness. It makes complete sense as Vit D is important to the immune system and most adults are deficient - especially outside of the equator in the winter season.

Glad to hear you are doing well and I suggest if you ever start going in the wrong direction again get a good quality health coach or functional medicine doctor and start looking into underlying deficiencies and toxicities.

I always wondered about the vit b theory since at one time I was super low for D. Dr put me the 50000 units once a week for I think a month then 2000units a day. My DH had Covid in nov. so far I’m doing great. Also now fully vaccinated. Hope everyone is doing good

For signs of progress; Colorado (a deep blue state) is allowing the Rockies 42% capacity on Opening Day, which will mark the largest % crowd in pro sports since last March. Maryland (a blue state) is allowing indoor and outdoor entertainment arenas 50% capacity and I am hearing rumblings the Orioles will have 50% on Opening Day (just over 2 weeks from today). Things are moving fast!

Anybody notice that the US hasn't updated hospitalizations in a couple of days?

Hospitalizations were slightly up yesterday due to increases in Texas, Ohio, and New Jersey. Still under 40k though.

Both the Colorado governor (a Democrat) and Maryland governor (a Republican) have been great from the beginning following the science and not changing restrictions based on their next run for office.

I hope it's just a blip and not the beginning of doom, but after several weeks of declining case numbers, ours here literally doubled overnight, and the state made no notation that this increase was due to delayed reporting, above average testing numbers, or tech issues. And this is 2 - 3 weeks after restrictions were eased, so... Worse, we eased restrictions but have a terribly slow vaccine rollout. I hope it's a blip, but I have a feeling it could be the beginning of, if not an outright "surge" at least a minor punishment for taking the foot off the brake too soon.

Unfortunately, more Covid in younger and healthier individuals can create more variants through mutations and can indirectly affect older population who were vaccinated with a vaccine that might not cover the new variants.

True. But we are getting to the point were 16 and overs will be vaccinated fairly soon as well.
