CCD classes ( not a religious thread )

Just a question... does yours have a rule that says if you miss more than 2 days you can't "graduate"?

The girl around the corner has missed 3 days in a year and she was told she now needs to go another year before her 1st Communion.

Her parents can homeschool it and she can get an exemption.

That is--if they are willing to do the work.

I'm not sure... could be, but the girl did get a letter sent home with her....My kids and her all go together, which is how I found out.

Thanks for all the responses, but please don't turn this into a religious thread.. This was simply a procedural question.... Just trying to follow the DIS rules. :)

I know nothing about the requirements except on how it impacted my baseball team. I get more upset that parents sign their kids up for baseball knowing that they have this attendance rule. It effects a lot more than one boy. If you are in that position take the kids out of baseball for a year. We have no control over when games are scheduled. I have had a parent or two tell me to tell the league to reschedule the games. Yeah like that will happen. It takes them a month to set the schedule for six age brackets in baseball and softball and last year i think it was 1600 kids in the league. Then you have to work around rain outs. Thankfully we have moved out of that age bracket next year. I was not replying originally on a religious basis but rather a baseball perspective. I get a little annoyed with some parents.

Our church's CCD schedule is Sept. to April. When is your daughter receiving her 1st communion? Is it soon or has her friend already missed the limit and they are telling her now that she won't receive her sacrament? Perhaps this family can speak with the parish priest and work something out.

Yep around here it's supposed to be miss 2 you don't "move up"
But if you have a decent reason for missing- like illness- they have let it slide.

My son has missed one already. And I'm sure another is in our future.

I think it's ridiculous. Particularly since all my 1st grader is doing is coloring and his teacher is a 15 year old.

Let me preface this by saying I'm not Catholic...

BUT our neighbor's DS is good friends with my DS. I know that he was not allowed to miss more than 2, b/c after the summer was over, he couldn't play with DS on Wed nights (I think since I am in the South they had their CCD classes on Wed, since all the other churches have things on Weds). He was so excited after his First Communion, b/c then the attendance wasn't so strict.
