Cautions for renting Searaycers and other watercraft

We'll be staying at the POR and I understand that we can rent Searacers there and travel the river to the lake area near Downtown Disney and that the boats have a less powerful engine than the ones you can rent from resorts in the 7 Seas Lagoon area. Has anyone rented from the POR and is it worth it? I'm wondering if my husband and son (riding together) would enjoy the slower boats or if the time and effort to go rent at one of the other resorts would be worth it...... your thoughts?

Well, here I was defending your intentions with this thread and you had to go and be rude, I think it would be nice for your to remove your Off Topic Sign.

Your thread might be about the need for caution while driving; but I think you are stretching it when you declare a question about rentals Off Topic.

If your husband and son have never rented before I would recommend this area, the boats are less intense, as are the drivers and the area.

The Seven Seas Lagoon area can get very congested; faster boats and there have been very serious accidents and even a death occur there due to the large ferry boats. I would not recommend this area for a first time rental.

There is a lot to see in the Downtown Disney area.

We have rented Sea Raycers a few times. 2 out of 5 times the CM's were great about telling us the rules etc. The other 3 times they acted like they couldn't care less. That may account for some of the problems.

Wow...I also stuck my neck out to support your thread...your response to the poster is hardly "Disney-like" and just supports the position that CMs aren't 'spreading the magic' the way they used to. What's it take to give a kind answer? I know you learned more in Traditions class than the fact that some guests leave their brains at home...bad form Endeavour105...

In fact if it was left alone, someone would have probably answered the question and then go back to the original topic. This way now it has gone off into this direction and will probably have a very difficult time coming back.

I've never rented from POR. When we were there in July, I thought the Sea Racers went VERY slow by comparison. Almost to the point where it defeated the purpose (for anyone looking for a mild thrill).

I do agree - The Seven Seas Lagoon area becomes VERY congested. I can see why there have been accidents in the past.

Sammie, thanks for your response - it was helpful. We'll rent one from the POR where we are staying. Easier and, it sounds like, a bit safer. Given it's our first time, the less congested water would be best although my hubby would rather have the more powerful engine! And thanks to others who provided info.

P.S. I didn't think I was off topic at all since, after reading the thread about safety concerns when using the Searacers, I was beginning to get a little worried about renting one and wondered if the Sass. River/DTD water area might be generally safer than the 7 Seas Lagoon. Obviously Endeavor did not see it my way....no big deal . . . of course I think he/she is wrong LOL
