I'm mostly at the start of my fitness journey but I think this would be a great place for me to celebrate some goals met and get my first taste of "racing". From what I've read the race is free and you line up at 830 am.

I will be traveling alone with two children 16 and 11. Is it ok to leave them on the ship and have them come out to the island after they breakfast? Will they be allowed off the ship without me? ETA: My girls both say they'd like to have a go with me, but in case they change their minds I'd still like to know. :-)

Do I need to sign up ahead of time or is it just show up? If sign up ahead of time where does that happen?

If you've done this I'd love to hear about it.

So excited!

Yes you should sign up ahead of time, but you can sign up the morning of. You will need to go back to the ship for the kids as they will not be allowed off without an adult.

Also, be aware, it's not a "race" in the true sense of it. Of course, you can run the course at whatever speed you want, but it's not really a race.

I think you have multiple options. Both are old enough to do the 5K, so that's one option. If you are okay with the kids being on their own on CC while you do the 5K, they can come off the ship with you and you can meet up at the end of the run. Alternately, you can leave them on the ship and go back to pick them up to go out to CC together at that time.

I have always signed up for the 5Ks at the Guest Services desk. The assembly point has varied (probably depends on the expected numbers), but on the Fantasy in March we had a few hundred participants and assembled in the Walt Disney Theater. I would sign up both girls for the run to simplify things should they decide to join in. They can always walk the course if they aren't interested in running, and everyone who finishes gets a souvenir "medal" on a nice neck ribbon.

Thank you. My girls are saying they really want to and I know my oldest will stick to that. My youngest will probably at least start the walk with us, but may sit out the bike loop portions. She actually said she wants to start training tomorrow!

@PrincessShmoo I have no delusions that I'll be "racing" :-). I just want to be able to say I survived it. LOL

We did it last year . We ordered room service the night before and had a light breakfast . Both of my teen girls and hubby did it too . There will be people running like it is a race and there will be people that will walk / jog it like me . I don't care what place I came in but I did it and have the medal to prove it .:P

Most likely we'll be last and I still won't care! On our last cruise I could barely make it up a flight of stairs. This is a big deal for me to even want to attempt such a thing.

I know your 16 year old can get off the ship at Castaway but you will need to go to Guest Services and sign a paper to allow her to do so. She will need her KTTW card to get off the ship.
Not sure about the 11 year old.

Congrats to you for going for it! Just keep in mind it will be very very hot and humid potentially and take advantage of the water stations and pace yourself. I have signed up at port adventures on board in years past. The sign ups will be announced in the navigator.
