I know the 5K will be hot and humid in July, but how does it compare to the heat and humidity in the parks in July? I currently do 2.5 miles daily (walk) averaging a 17.30 mile in central Florida, I can handle this, I am hoping Castaway Cay will be about the same. Thanks

It's basically the same as the parks. It is usually pretty early in the morning (8:30 or 9:00) but it will be humid. It is not a timed race, and many people walk, so it's not a big deal.

It's the only 5K I've ever walked due to heat (April). I am from PA and not used to running in such humid temps though. I thought it was really hot.

The tough part for me is that a lot of the course is through the bike path, which is enclosed by trees - so it didn't feel like there was much fresh air circulating through. Like all of the warm, humid air was trapped in that enclosed space.

I'm from Ohio and I run 3-4 times per week - CC5K is tough. Make sure you drink tons of water leading up to it and definitely plan to be a little more relaxed with your pace.

It will be hot and humid. Most of the course is unshaded. But no worries on the time. So just enjoy!

Our concierge staff joked with us all week about how hot the 5k was. Well.. We thought they were joking since my husband is an ironman finisher and always wore his ironman hat. They kept warning us that if we decided to run drink lots of water.

I realized .2 into the race. They weren't joking. I was running in hells inferno :). Good thing I listened about carrying water. It was a hard race for me!

I just did the CC 5K in April. It was MUCH hotter than the parks, but was really fun to do. I don't recall there being much shade at all, and it got REALLY hot when running down the runway strip because it's all on black pavement. That said, I would definitely do it again :)

I ran it at end of Feb and it was hot like PP said when I got to the runway. there is NO shade and boy I was sweating buckets. Its so worth it though and Im planning on possibly running it again in Sept.

I am a Florida native - originally from South, now living in North FL. I have been running since September '15 and have done 6 5k's so far (my 6th being the CC 5k!). We cruised/ran in April of this year and the only difference I felt was the humidity. My sunglasses kept fogging up! It had rained a bit earlier in the day though so I'm sure that added to it.
I'll tell you what I figured out though--the water stops have ICE COLD water. Grab a cup, fill it up, dunk your towel/headband/whatever in it, and then blot your face, neck, etc. IT FELT SO GOOD! I think I eventually just poured some water straight down my shirt it felt so good haha
Good luck! The race medals are awesome! Buy a 5k trading pin, too!

I just did it Sunday, for about the 5th time. The first time I ever did it was in August, and I faltered from the heat (had to do a walk/run). All of the other times, I have run the whole thing. But, my times are kind of slow. It took me 33+ minutes this latest time. I'm 54.
