Cast Member Steals Phone

How did you find his Facebook page based on just his first name? I'm sorry but I still think there is something fishy going on. There were a ton of other people in photos from this supposed iPhone. He just happened to be one with a name tag. And, she accuses someone of being a "co-captain" - there is no such thing!

People do a lot of crazy things to get attention - I think she is one of them.

Not this time.......check out these links. And the news has reported that Nelson has lost his job.

Great...I hope that DCL sends a message to ALL there employees that theft is not tolerated. It would be great if they booted him off the boat at the next port and handed him his pay check and said good luck find your own way home.

Even if they send a message to the employees, you still got the other guests cruising that might be that one bad apple who steals as well:goodvibes

... I hope the owner posts on her FB page to let people know if she does get it back (and I don't think she deserves any monetary comp or free WDW tickets)...
What's most interesting about her is that she has not updated the thread on her photo album at ALL since Monday and she has not even made a comment that she has been contacted by DCL. Now, who knows what she has posted on her Wall, but she made her album public (with the help of a friend) so that she could get attention, but has not done what I would consider the responsible thing and posted an update that Disney has been in communication with her. Makes me question her a bit.

That's the best rundown I've seen of this entire incident.

I'm wondering if the phone was actually stolen or if the guest left it on a table or lost it somewhere and it was found by a CM and not turned into Lost & Found?!? :confused3
In the end, is there really a difference? Either way, you have kept a phone that you have no business having.

His facebook page has her listed as his 'fiancee'.

Given she is in private in some of the photos and it appears they are a couple from the photos and his facebook site I think it is a reasonable assumption that she is his partner....
I looked all over his facebook page and did not see her listed anywhere. I am not friends with him. Are you on his friends' list or am I just missing this completely?

You've been to his facebook page?

His facebook page has been linked in news articles. I saw it a few days ago. However, I DON'T know how someone would know who his girlfriend is from his fb page as it is not indicated (unless maybe you are on his friend's list).

I DO agree 100% that -- at least from the pictures she posted -- there is not enough to conclude that he is the one that had the phone. The least featured person in my iphone pics is --- ME.

:crazy2: Could you imagine if Nelson was a counselor in the kids club! :crazy2:
Just the rumors if he did? :crazy2:

Well, what I'm taking away from this thread is to lock my crap up in the safe. When I sail with my husband he does it. I have to admit, when I sailed with my mom last January I didn't. :worried: Lesson learned.

Also, I never knew that they can see who swiped their key and when. Good lessons all around.

From the links I've found on this thread, I found the 'girlfriend's' facebook thread via Nelson's friend list and she's engaged to someone else in the USA. She's probably someone that the picture taker (maybe, maybe not Nelson) has a certain affection to.
Based on all the publicity that Nelson and his friend are receiving, it would not surprise me if there have been several others contacting them via FB or other means and letting them have it.

For the sake of damage done, I hope the culprit is Nelson after all that face time.

Yes. Like I said before, Nelson is sure taking a viral beating. If he lost his job, it wasn't because of a FB page that's for sure.

No, the press has reported that a "crew member is on administrative leave" Also, your links don't prove anything to me other than showing a Facebook page that is presumably Nelson's and a news article based solely on the Facebook photos. I still don't believe that Nelson is the culprit and others have pointed out that the "girlfriend" is engaged to someone in the US, not Nelson.

I'm with you on this. :thumbsup2

I think everyone is just speculating. And until they announce that he is guilty, I'll stay on the fence. Now, to be clear, I would not be surprised if he was found guilty or even if he was found innocent. I don't think we have enough to go on.

Here's my POV, not that anyone asked.

The woman who posted the pictures seems to have more than just what she posted. Perhaps those photos give a clearer idea of why she thinks that Nelson is the culprit.

She seems to have originally posted them for just her friends' viewing pleasure. She probably said "co-captain" and that it was the employees mess as she didn't know for sure and didn't realize that everyone in the world was going to see the pictures and her comments. I am also guessing that when she made them public, at a friend's request, that she had NO idea that it was going to go viral. I'll bet it's a bit freaky. She's probably got all the news media, etc., contacting her for sound bites. And she might be updating her personal FB page for her friends but may see no reason to update that public thing since it's now a "news" story and the outcome will, I'm guessing, be released publicly sooner or later.

And lastly, if I leave my phone in plain view and someone picks it up and doesn't turn it over to GS, that's stealing. Period. I may have been foolish to leave it out, but it doesn't negate the fact that it's stealing.

100gb=102,400mb. Uncompressed RAW +Jpeg = about 1.5mb per mp. At 15mp you would have over 4500 pictures per 100gb of space. Jpeg= .3mb/mp = 22,700 pictures

I don't think you are typical even for people who have your gear. (nice gear though) I can't imagine how long it would take to process 4500 RAW images.

Yeah I accept I am probably not typical. It isn't too hard to shoot 4500 images. I usually take between 20 or 30 of a shot just to make sure I have the lighting/exposure right. Since I shoot mostly in manual or aperture priority mode I really do take a lot of shots. I find it is easier to get home and choose 1 or 2 good ones out of the 20 or 30 I shot of a pose than to get home and live with a blurry image or one that is over/under exposed. That is why it is so nice to have digital.

I don't like to have to wade through the photos until I get home because it is really hard without a large screen to really see what photos are really good and tack sharp on my macbook so I load them all onto an external hard drive and then look at them on my screen at home. I end up throwing away 75% of them right off the bat and then process the ones I really like. But that is the nice thing about having raw is I can go back later and say "Hey you know that photo I would like to blow it up and put it here in the house" and I can do that whenever.

So yes I am not normal when it comes to photography. I was just addressing the comment that people should put their data on SD cards and not bring a laptop. I really like having the laptop so that theory doesn't work for everyone and I figured I was a good example of why that wouldn't work. Now my mom on the other hand never puts her photos on a computer. She has a few cards and when they get full she goes to walgreens and has them burned onto a CD. She just has trouble working the computer and it is what works for her. I can't put my photos on a CD in shutters obviously or I would be going home with 100 CDs.

There's not much risk of that. DCL recovered the phone. They likely obtained it because it was on the person of a cast member or in his/her gear. You can be pretty darb gone sure that the individual will never again be seen aboar a DCL ship.

Granted, I still shoot with my old 20d because it just refuses to give me an excuse to replace it, but your comment that your pics won't fit on memory cards confuses me, since they are on memory cards in the camera. By my math, you can get about 500 RAW images on a 8gb card. Even if you were taking 2000 pics a day and going through 4 cards a day (on vacation!), the total number of resulting cards is manageable.

I actually prefer it this way. I bring enough memory cards with me for the entire trip and mark each card with the date (and sequence throughout the day). This allows me to go through the photos very easily when I get home and doesn't have me wasting time transferring and organizing photos while on vacation.

Yeah I guess I can see that. On my last vacation I was in WDW for 10 days plus 4 days driving to get to/from FL and I took about 160GB of photos on that trip. So I would need about 10 16 GB flash cards and the good ones I buy are around $60/each so I have good performance writing to the card. I use the action mode when my kids are on rides sometimes just for fun and some cards cannot keep up with that. So I would need $600 in cards for a vacation and I have a 1.5TB portable drive I got at Costco for $100 so I would rather bring my laptop. The funny thing is I have more than that invested in my camera so I don't know why $600 in cards bothers me but if I can get a better deal I try. I have to save money for glass for my camera I guess.

If you follow the thread, it is clear that she was posting this for her friends, not the public (despite the fact that the permissions were public) with no idea how quickly it would spread. The shares seemed to spread exponentially and there is nothing to indicate that she promoted it herself.

I looked through his "friends" list on his facebook and found the spa girl. Her facebook lists another man as her fiance and lists their anniversary as 2004. Reading her real boyfriends facebook also shows a bunch of posts from her about how badly she misses him and how she will be home to him soon (current contract up). It makes me feel bad for her being labeled to Nelson when she is probably nothing more than a co-worker that Nelson may be crushing on or a roommate on the ship.

Like the guests who steal fish extenders?

I agree. Untill more info comes out, I will not hang the guy. Maybe guilty, maybe not. All everyone is doing including the one that lost the phone is speculating. In this country, innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. I truly feel sorry for him IF he is innocent.

FYI - The phone owner is actually a real person AND a friend!!! This really happened. Although FB is not a reliable news source, the passing on of actual info is in fact real!!

Amazing how quickly stuff spreads!! Busy working to pay for our October Hawaii cruise, so I was missing from FB for a couple of days - just saw her post this morning & YOU guys already have it covered!!! If she posts about DCL contacting her, I will most definitely pass it on!

I feel bad for Nelson lol, even if he did it. I surely hope people aren't looking through his friend list. That be kind of creepy if people do that. Then again lots of creepy people in this world.

Why on earth would you feel bad for a thief???? If he did steal the phone he should get what he deserves and more.
