Did you see the press conference that they had for Vasco? His lawyer is one of the sons. I knew I had seen him before. They aired one of the Morgan and Morgan commercials right after the press conference and there he was. He looks like he is 12.

LOL My BF and I always make fun of him whenever his commercials come on....My daddy gave me this job. :happytv:

"when you get acquitted, do you want to go out with me?"

"A date? Really?"

"Yeah--we could go to Universal."

"You are such a romantic!"

Slightly off topic:

Does anyone know how the court would handling the swearing in of a witness who happened to be an atheist? I ask because they seem to use the "so help you God" phrase (I think a lot of jurisdictions have gone away from that).

This question comes to you courtesy of my "Why is the sky blue?" file.

I also remember the JD/MD guy. He is a doctor AND a lawyer. Though I am unsure of what he is up to now. I read he got arrested for something. But then again so did John Morgan (ZG's attorney).

The MD/JD guy and the arrested guy are 2 different people. They are both still around.

Good question, to take that oath would mean they lied :rotfl:

As an Atheist, I think about this whenever I hear them swearing someone in.

What would I do? Do I lie and just say "I do"? Do I say "I do, but I don't believe in god, so whatev."? Does it mean I can lie on the stand since I don't believe in whom I just swore to? :confused3 (Yes, I know you are not supposed to lie on the stand...just throwing that out there.)

I was thinking the same thing this morning!

So did today's testimony cast doubt on prosecution findings? I admit to being confused.

I recently had to go to court as a witness regarding work, and when I was sworn in, they said "Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?". No hand on the bible, no "so help you God" here in Boston anymore.

I don't know, but I'd be careful about discussing it here. A DIS friend of mine got points recently for what seemed like a pretty benign political comment. :confused3 However, I would like to know "why is the sky blue?" And why people always ask that?

We're so progressive in the Northeast. :) :thumbsup2

That comes under the heading of "When is the 3:00 parade?" Both have an explanation, but do you really want to hear it? :headache:

We went to tax appeal court yesterday, no bible but had to swear to tell the truth so help you God with right hand raised.

Blue light from the sun is scattered by oxygen in the atmosphere. The atmosphere scatters violet light even more effectively, but our eyes are more sensitive to blue.

So the sky is blue because of us. Really it is violet!

The usual option for those who don't want to swear an "oath" (see the Religious Society of Friends) or reference God (atheists) is to "affirm to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth under penalty of perjury." Exact wording differs by jurisdiction.

After you tell me "Who is buried in Grant's tomb?"

But I have to say...I remember Christmas Eve midnight mass was at 11 PM. So there!

How did this conversation get started? LOL Only had one cup of coffee...need another!

That sounds best. Wonder why it's not used universally?
