Cart Narcs ... I mean, I get it, but when did this become a thing?

Since curse words are censored here, I will say this kind of behavior rhymes with "ick wad."

Funny that people are saying "if you don't return the cart, you're self-absorbed and think the world revolves around you." That is somehow not true of people who think they are the social police?

Who elected you to police others? No one. You're just a jerk with a holier-than-thou complex and too much time on their hands. Take the time you're using confronting people in parking lots over grocery carts and go learn how to do something useful. Use that energy to solve an actual problem in the world.

And goodness, "waaaaaah people don't return their carts to the cart return!" is the definition of a first-world problem.

I always return my cart, but I despise obnoxious people even when I am not their target.

This x 1000.

Pretty much this whole Board is a first world problem given that it's centered around vacation planning..but I'm pretty sure we're all very aware of how discussing returning carts is considered a first world problem :)

Judging isn't policing. Forming an opinion isn't policing. Sharing that feeling isn't policing.
One. Single. Entity. in this thread is "policing" inconsiderate shoppers. And producing a video series from it. Take it up with them. Nobody in this thread is confronting people in parking lots.

But if you can recommend actual world problems that can be (re)solved in a supermarket parking lot, we're all ears.

Yes. Is there a restriction now on airing first-world problems? Because those are all the issues and experiences I have. :confused3

But hey, as long as you can rant about people ranting on a silly Disney message board, you’re nothing at all like the folks you claim to not be like. :rotfl2:

There is a thread now about how someone’s mom’s purse got stolen from her car while she was returning her cart. Perhaps that’s why no one does it here too. You could lock your car but that also adds to the hassle of the whole thing & it would be a given that your purse or maybe your whole car could get stolen if you left it unlocked with the keys in it & walked away here.

Locking your car is a hassle?

I take my purse and keys with me when I return the cart. I would never leave them in my car unattended.

Like I’ve said, no one here does it or cares. Just saying maybe it’s an added hassle b/c you have to lock your car here for sure.

I lock my purse in the car, take my keys and return the cart. I usually try to park fairly near a cart return.

I agree with you. Locking isn't a hassle.
Reporting CC's and DL as stolen is a huge hassle to me.

I literally lock my car everytime I return the cart unless I'm parked next to the cart corral...another kicker is I'm manually doing it (and inserting the key to unlock) as my key fob hasn't worked in years. It's second nature to me so no hassle for me personally. If you have a key fob it's as easy as hitting a button. I guess if you're in the habit of not locking your car you might not think to but in that case it wouldn't be on your mind as a reason to not return the cart.

So wait, a reason to not put carts in the corral is so you're not (presumably) forced to leave your car unlocked with your purse and keys in it? You win. Can't fault that logic. :rotfl2:

No I don’t see it as a reason as much as it’s another step. I just can’t stress enough that no one does it or cares here & I’m fine with that. Seeing as I’ve live here all my 41 years & don’t plan to move ever, it should be fine.

I lock my car when I put the cart away for two reasons. One is my purse or other stuff is in it, but also I wouldn't want someone sneaking in and hiding in my back seat to accost me in a less conspicuous place. I'm a suspicious sort, I know, but I've been robbed before, pickpocketed before and I've seen the aftermath of a robbery in a grocery store. Thieves are quick and they don't care if you've put the steaks and that cantaloupe on your purse, they'll knock it off to get to your stuff. So, I lock my door if I'm not at it.

And last year at our Costco, they told us all to watch our purses because there was a two-person set up going on where one would engage and distract you, while the other robbed you. The second one was people in cars circling the parking lot, not looking for a spot, but looking for a cart full of stuff parked behind the car while the person was putting kids in car seats or putting something in the front. I keep my cart beside me at all times, now.

For all of you who are judging the person's mom whose purse got stolen from that other thread, I'd like to see you have the nerve to post those comments over there.
Why? In the original post it is acknowledged that her mother knew she made a mistake by not locking the car:
My mom came out of the grocery store last week. She put her groceries in the back of her car, and put her purse on the passenger seat before walking a few yards to return her cart to the front of the store. When she got back, she noticed a guy running away from her car, then was shocked to see her purse was gone. She had her keys in her hand and her phone in her pocket, so at least those were safe. She is usually very careful, even locking her car while she's standing right there putting gas in it. She knows her mistake was leaving it unlocked and walking away, even for a few seconds. I'm just glad the guy didn't try to pull the purse off her shoulder and injure her in the process. It really ticks me off that some jerk is preying on older people, trying to take the money they worked hard to earn all their lives. But that's another issue!

What we are saying here completely aligns to that. It sucks that there are people like that in this world no doubt but I think it's a bit out of left field to discuss that thread in here.

This is precisely why I posted in a new thread about my mom's purse and not this one. I wanted to keep it out of this discussion. I should have left out the part about leaving the car to return the cart so it wouldn't get quoted over here. It was a minor detail in my request for assistance and experiences about the bigger issue of helping my mom get back on track.

Excuse you I wasn't judging the mom. I mentioned earlier on in this thread days ago (least it seems days ago) that I lock my car. Good lord how you got to that leap is beyond me.
