When my family went to Disneyland when my father was gonna try to work for Disney's pest control company on a mini business trip we saw a hotel called Carousel Inn And Suites and Mom was gonna see about getting us a room there but they had no rooms and we ended up at Castle Inn And Suites and I would like to know if anyone remembers Carousel Inn And Suites? From what my family saw the Carousel Inn And Suites looked very nice and we hoped we would stay there and check it out but we never got to because we started using Disneyland Hotel for our Disneyland trips. Did Carousel Inn And Suites close and what hotel is it now? How was Carousel Inn And Suites? Was it nice and were the rooms done in a carousel theme as well?

This hotel was bought by Disney and torn down for the walkway to the parking structures and transportation plaza behind the Harbor Blvd hotels. We stayed once and it was fine. Not any better or worse than most of the places around Disneyland.

Disney bought the Carousel Inn And Suites? I didn't even know that and that's an interesting fact to learn? What was Carousel Inn And Suites like before Disney bought it? Was it family owned and what was the history behind Carousel Inn And Suites?

Several years ago (2018?), Disneyland had proposed the Eastern Gateway Project that would make be a parking lot with a bridge over Harbor starting behind the hotels, thereby
stopping/lowering the foot traffic on Harbor, thereby lowering the customers passing all those budget shops at the hotels in Harbor and making it easier to stay farther away since it would lessen the walk around the surface streets. (That was a long sentence, haha!)

They wanted an entry from Harbor, and bid to buy a hotel on Harbor to create that entrance. Carousel took their offer, so Disney bought it and tore it down....

.... and then they (Disney) was refused the permits to build the Eastern Gateway Project.

That is where my mom and I always stayed when I was growing up on our Disneyland trip every year. It was just a basic hotel. Nothing special about it, really. It was just a convenient spot to stay to go to the parks with a very short walk.

I remember really liking the breakfast room at Carousel Inn. It had a large panoramic window that overlooked Harbor with a peak of the park. It was a nice place and I miss it...fond memories indeed!

I wonder if Disney has any plans for the space since the Eastern Gateway didn't go through.

Eastern gateway did finally get approved as part of Disneyland Forward. It just took them many extra years. This work will likely be the first to start anytime now.

It was a basic motel room. Clean and comfortable. We used to stay there because it was one of the more affordable hotels and a very close walk to Disneyland.

But also now has access to Harbor, I believe, which was the sticking point for the project before.

Correct, much more friendly design for businesses on Harbor. I am curious to see when the plans are revealed exactly how it will work for people staying in hotels on Harbor. The security is moving to the new parking garage east of the hotels. I wonder if there will still be a small security check near the current location or on an entry to the walkway over Harbor. Will be interesting to see. We might find out this weekend, but rumors indicate DCA expanding north into the current bus loops and security area.

Disney struck out on two consecutive projects in the 2018 timeframe when they had an adversarial relationship with Anaheim City Council. They closed everything in Downtown Disney west side to build a new hotel, which was cancelled because Anaheim did not approve what Disney needed. Anaheim also did not approve eastern gateway. The ramifications of the west side decision are still being felt by the ongoing construction all these years later!

It was my go to for many years. Was so sad when it was sold. I believe it was owned by the people that owned the Anabella on Katella which got sold to Marriot and they built the Westin Resort on that property.
