Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ Part 3

Ohh, I liked that bench too!! It was wonderful for bags, laying out clothes, whatever...and hanging jackets on the hooks above..or sometimes a wet towel..

That bench was one of the things I loved about CBR - Carol, we've been staying there since it opened too...as much as I like a water/beach theme and the curtains appear cute and rather soothing, but what about the bright and happy Caribbean theme? That's what I just don't get - why did Disney do away with already perfect theme - Caribbean Beach???

Yeah - I can't figure out the Nemo theme. I wonder why they would tie most of the resort into one particular movie. I would probably prefer a tropical theme. That being said, I don't think the room looks bad or anything and it seems like they are keeping the same color scheme, etc., so I think the changes will be fine. But if that bench is gone . . . !! If there is nothing where the bench was, then I guess you could put a suitcase there and just work out of the suitcase if there wasn't enough drawer space. It does appear that the shelf above the bench is still there.

Like I said in an earlier post, I will be there next week (I did not pay for a preferred room so I wouldn't be in Martinique anyways) and I am going to try and see if I can look at one of the rooms through the window.

Our Disney spies are on the case! Thanks safetymom! :thumbsup2

I must admit I'm not impressed with the new look. :guilty: I like the old style much better. I showed DH the pictures and he doesn't like it either (especially the new border...) and said that it reminds him of the values also. He asked if we could switch to POR instead, but since we're going during free dining, I know there is zero chance of that happening! Our 2 year old is gonna love the room though!

Just wanted to let you guy know that I called to change our "request" for Matinique Building 24. I know it's a request but, since we are paying for a preferred location, maybe I'll get some pixie dust.

By the way, I asked the castmember if the CBR rooms were being refurbed/renovated and she said not to her knowledge. She even checked the system and all that was shown was the pool rehab.

I wanted to tell her so bad that I had actually seen pictures of the refurbed room but didn't.

I sure hope that the bench is still in the room. I used the large drawer for storing all my purchases.

***Safetymom,

Could you tell if the bed frames were new or were the bedskirts blocking the view? I was wondering if the beds were still raised. I loved storing my luggage underneath the beds.

We are doing back to back cruises. One with Carnival from Dec 6th- 13th. Going to Grand Cayman, Belize, Roaton Island and Cozumel. Then on Dec 16th-Dec 23rd we are doing a Disney 7 day land and Sea. We Check into Carribean early, Dec 13th and then sail to the Bahamas on Dec 20th-23rd.

We chose Carribean because we are sailing to the Carribean and wanted to hold on to the theme a little longer! It sounds like we won't be disappointed!

Oh yeah - I forgot about the border!! I agree - that is a little cheesy. But if the theme is Nemo, then I guess the border has to tie into it too.

I'm also trying to figure out why they didn't change the carpeting. That doesn't have anything to do with Nemo and if I thought one thing in the rooms I have stayed in over the last few years needed changing, it would be the carpeting. I've been in some rooms with pretty worn out carpeting.

Okay - I just looked up some of safetymom's pictures of a room and I didn't remember that the current border is also a "fish" theme, so I guess the Nemo border won't be that bad! In my head, I thought the border was flowers, but from her pictures it looks like it is seaweed with fish swimming around.

Yeah, it does seem strange that wouldn't do a total refurb including new carpet. And I loved the space in that armoire! Too bad it is gone.

And I'm thinking that they would hope that people will forget that Nemo was in Australia, not the Caribbean... :confused3 It seems like The Little Mermaid would be a better fit, which used to be on the refillable mugs years ago.

Geesh, I thought the border was tropical flowers as well! In all the years we've stayed at CBR, we've only been in Martinique 24, 25 or 26 (long before those were preferred), so have only had a peek at other Village room decor. Although we liked the exterior of other villages, always preferred the interior and location of Martinique.

Guess I've have to eat my words from an earlier post...said I'd not stay in a renovated room, but alas, love that resort, so will have to deal with the new decor.

Wonder if they'll change the carpet later...really need new carpet.

I'd forgotten all about the Little Mermaid refillable mugs! Still have one - was not a fan of those mugs, but even less of Nemo ;) Of course, now all the mugs are the same.

B-O-R-I-N-G...

...makes one wonder about some of those imagineers!;)

I was not aware that the interiors were different - I thought all the interiors were the same. I have stayed in Arbua for about the last 5 or 6 years and I stayed in Trinidad North this past December and the room was the same as Aruba. Are they different?

LOL You quoted my pre-typo correction verision!!:rotfl:

The decor was different when the resort first opened - each village had bedspreads etc to match the exterior theme. It's been the same for many years - we really noticed accidentally - our first trip we had friends in the Jamaica Village and a few yrs later, the same thing happened again and that's when we noticed the decor was now the same - except for paint, each village does (did) have it's own color walls - although some might have the similar colors.

Wonder if all will be the same now?

I can't even remember what the rooms used to look like back then - that was when I was in my early 30's - now I'm 52 and while I still have a pretty good memory, it's not that good!! I wonder if I have any pictures and if I would be able to find them!!

All the interiors were the same until they started the refurb.

According to the Jim Hill article the beds are not same. They are lower and won't be able to store stuff under them.

I will go back over in a couple of days and get more details. I should have remembered to look at every detail like the bench and lights.

There is also supposed to be Pirate themed rooms in Trinidad South after the refurb is complete.

Hey all,

I need some serious advise.

We're going to CBR in Dec (10-14) with 5 adults, one (our mom) with a leg impairment that makes it very difficult for her to walk long distances or climb stairs. We need to book 2 rooms obviously, and I've heard you actually need to book 2 seperate reservations for 2 rooms... OK heres where the questions come in...

We've stayed at CBR in the past, just asked for ground floor martinique and they have always been able to meet that request. But with a larger group this time we know we need 2 rooms but we really want our 2 rooms to be side by side (adjoining even?? do they have adjoining rooms at CBR?). But I feel like thats alot of requests to put on the resi! .. It would end up being something like "req groud floor due to med necessity, req martinique, req adjoining/abutting room with res #xxxx".

Is that too much? How do we simplify this? Would booking both rooms preferred help? I can see it helping the martinique issue, but not necessarily the ground floor/ abutting rooms issue. Is there a policy for booking rooms side by side when they are booked together?

To make it even more complicated, we're not checking in on the same day. 2 of the 3 people in room 1 are checking in on tues morning and the 2 ppl in the other room plus the 3rd person in the 1st room (still with me?) are checking in Wed night!! But its our mom with the disablity who is checking in first and we really want to be in a room beside her! Can we book both rooms w the same credit card even though obviously the cardholder wont bein both rooms? As long as the card holder checks in first cant that person just come meet us when we check in?

Suggestions?? Please?? =)

HELP!

The rooms have been the same for many years, but not when the resort opened. :) I will try to find photos for you. :) The other day came across some of the magazines they would send out when you made a reservation and a resort newspaper - lots of photos of the resorts.

Remember when they sent out a free Steve Birnbaum book? That was back in the very early '90's.

I'm 60 and cannot remember where I left my glasses, but I never forget most the details of a Disney resort!! :rotfl:

I am okay with the Nemo touches (I think its weird but I can live with it). But I am worried about the way it looks like some of the nice storage features (under bed storage, bench, large dresser) are going by the wayside. That room at CBR was so nice for our family of four. Honestly, of all the resorts we have stayed at, except for the Poly, it was the easiest to unpack and find a place for all of our stuff. That bums me out! My daughter will love the Nemo look for about another year. Then it will probably be "dumb". I will miss the old style, except I do love the new curtains.

HELP!

This past December I booked two preferred rooms - one for my husband and I and one for my parents. I did not request a particular village, but I did ask for connecting rooms and got them. Also asked for first floor since my mom uses a rollator and got that too. I did tell them that my mom was disabled. It worked out very nice.

HELP!

Please be sure to ask for your reservation to be handled by Special Needs (they do not make the actual reservation, that's why the CM must contact them when you are booking) - the CM will contact special needs while they have you on hold - ask for special needs to call you about your request so you can speak with someone personally. They are WONDERFUL and will make sure your mother's needs are met, therefore the family as well.

If the CM does not understand and does not call special needs, hang up and try again until you get one who does. Sometimes newer CM's do not know how to do this, but they are supposed to contact special needs while on the phone with you. If they do not contact special needs for you at the time of booking, please pm me after you book and I will give you the direct number so you can speak with them directly. :)

Have a wonderful trip!!
