Caribbean Beach FAQ part VI

Got home last night. It was another great stay. We had room 2224 in Martinique. However, we actually had the Barbados beach right outside our door, and the Barbados quiet pool was closer than the Martinique pool. It was a real nice location. a 4-5 minute walk to OPR and even a short walk to the Custom House. We walked to our room from the Custom House after checking in and back there yesterday to catch Magical Express back to MCO :sad1: . Room was just fine, no musty smell or anything (although we have never had that issue), and mousekeeping was good every day.

The weather was phenomenal all week. Not a drop of rain the entire 7 days we were there (although I understand it was real rainy the day before we arrived). It didn't really get too warm either, until the weekend, with Monday-Friday generally getting only to the low 80s.

Never had an opportunity to walk around the resort, but while going around in the buses, I looked and never saw any signs of any work being done in the rooms.

As seems to be the case this time of year, there were lots of high school groups/teams staying at CBR. I noticed several baseball/softball/lacrosse teams as well as a couple of bands and choir groups. And over the weekend, a ton of dane teams showed up as there is apparently a huge competition taking place at WDW this week. So you did notice groups of teens hanging out at the quiet pools and on the beaches a lot.

Bus service was good. The only long wait we had was our first morning. We waited about 25 minutes for a bus to AK and someone else at the bus stop mentioned they got there about 15 minutes before us (so a 40 min. wait for them). Returning from the parks seemed better than in the past to me as well.

The highlight of the trip was probably being selected to be the Grand Marshalls of the Festival of Fantasy parade at MK on Wednesday. We were finishing breakfast at Crystal Palace when a CM came to our table and just started chatting with us. After 5 minutes or so of "small talk", he says he has something he wants to offer us. Of course, the first instinct is he will try to sell something...but then he quickly said he wasn't selling anything. He then asks if would like to be the Grand Marshalls of the parade. Ummmm.....yeah!!! It was really cool riding the parade route in the old-fashioned car with everyone lined up waving at you and your family being announced throughout the route. We were even given Mickey ears with "Grand Marshalls 2014" embroidered on them and a certificate with our names and hometown and the date on it. The topper was my parents had just arrived (it was a surprise for the kids who had no idea they were coming), then just as we reached end of the route, there they were waiting and waving. The kids jaws dropped upon seeing their grandparents. It was a truly pixiedust: magical pixiedust: moment.

This is a good question - I've read a bit about the coconuts you can send. Anyone know what they cost?

I sent a coconut back home last October -- I think it was in the 20 dollar range for the coconut and postage and I want to say the postage was priority mail which is why it was so much. It was delivered with no damage and was a big hit!

I'm trying to remember our room numbers but I think that one of our three rooms was the same as your's. It's so great to hear another good review of the resort.

How absolutely wonderful...cool....neat...fantastic....that you were chosen as the Grand Marshalls of the parade! What a great memory!

Wednesday (4/23).

We checked in yesterday and they said the crews are getting set up for the remodel now, but no actual work is being done. he said the some of the joining rooms are going to be suites. This is from
one of the gentleman the opens the doors and welcome you to the island so I don't know the credability. Our room is great. It does have the finding Nemo boarder. Only negative I have is the first Pack and Play was disgusting and the second wasn't a whole lot better. We do have a car but rode the bus to MK and had no issues

MCD, What a magical time being GM. I teared up reading about the kids seeing their grandparent.

Interesting. This would be great for families with more than four in their party.

We would book a suite if we were traveling with our now grown up daughters. Thanks for the update! :)

Awesome! So excited they will be starting! I can't wait to hear more as they start the refurb!

Thanks for the update! I would think that the resort greeters would have some knowledge of what is going on around the resort so that they can inform the guests. This is the first that I've heard of the possibility of suites but I think that it's a great idea.

It just reminded me that for all the obsessive planning those of us on these boards like to do (and I'm guilty too)...it is almost always the unexpected/spontaneous moments that produce the best and most memorable moments. :wizard:

It's so easy to lose sight of that around here - especially if you spend any time treading the theme parks board :scared: . There is so much negativity over there, mostly centered around FP+, of course. You see so many people there who are upset either because they feel they can't plan out their whole day the way they used to with FP-, or just because of the uncertainty, or whatever else. It seems they are not content with just going annd having a great time. It's as if they are only interested in having the exact same trip - with each aspect planned out meticulously - each and every time they go, which is likely only setting themselves up for inevitible disappointment. So, I'm happy to have been reminded to just let things happen and come naturally.

Okay, end of my mini-rant. :mic:

I think that's it exactly. On one hand it's to be expected. After all, they've done the hard work learning how to maximize their use of the previous system for their trips. Then suddenly, BAM, it all changes and now everyone is back to square one. All that hard won expertise and gained knowledge is gone forever. Personally, I don't miss running to the FP machines with a handful of tickets at all. :)

I can't get over the number of people that scream and yell because they didn't get to do the ride they wanted, things are too crowded or expensive, they aren't on schedule......you are on vacation, not a military exercise. I've been solo, just me and my love, small family trip and large family trip -- the only thing we insist on -- is everyone picks 1 thing they want to do and we try to accomodate that -- after that, take what the day brings you. Otherwise there are lots of unhappy people in the happiest place on earth.

Oh yay! Was just looking at.CSR jr suite again if we love CBR this fall I hope to come back yo a suite that sleeps 6!

Wow! Huge thread!

This may have already have been asked and answered, so my apologies in advance.

First stay at CBR. I have a preferred room book for 2 nights right after Thanksgiving.

I don't mind internal bus systems, but I like to be on the first stop (ex: Grandstand buildings at SSR). Which building should I request to be on the first bus stop?

Or, for this resort, is it better to be on the last stop to save time in the morning?

Each village has it's own bus stop. The order depends on which entrance the bus driver uses. If the bus comes in the side entrance the order is:

Jamaica
Aruba
Barbados
Martinique (Preferred)
Old Port Royale
Trinidad North (Preferred)
Trinidad South

If the bus uses the main entrance the order is:

Martinique (Preferred)
Old Port Royale
Trinidad North (Preferred)
Trinidad South
Jamaica
Aruba
Barbados

Forgive me the questions but I'm only on page 7 of this 223+ page thread. :)

I was simply just wondering what the best standard room view would be? I was hoping to request to stay in Jamaica, according to the map, Jamaica 45 looks like the best choice. I love to view the water.

I've never stayed at CBR but fell in love with it when I took the boys in October for their pirate cruise.

Good choice, Jamaica 45 is our favorite location. Followed up by Aruba 51. They are both a very short, 3-4 minutes, stroll across the bridge to OPR and the Main Pool. We prefer Jamaica because of the bright yellow color of the buildings.

CBR is our favorite Moderate by far. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
