Local high school band is having a car wash fundraiser today. No set fee - just donations. So what is a reasonable amount to donate?

I guess it depends on how much you want to support the band. If it's a random organization to you, $5 seems right. If your child plays for the band, and it's a special organization, I'd do $10-$20.

I have been involved in high school car washes for a team that I coached.

If people were "just" getting their car washed - a typical donation was $5. If someone was passionate about the specific club - it was usually closer to $10.
In our area - the main spot to have a car wash is near a real car wash where the cost was $4.00 to have your car washed.

Occasionally - someone would very generously donate more!

Whenever I go to a fundraiser car wash, I usually pay between $10-20. It's usually the only time all year I give to that organization, so I'm more generous than I would be if I'm a "regular".

My DD just did one, I was shocked. The smallest donation we got was $10.00. We didn't have a set price, we just said whatever donation you would like to give is fine.

I have noticed that car washes don't seem to do as well as they did when I was growing up. I think it may have to do with the amount of fund raisers that are being done and also on every corner is one of those drive through car wash places.

The car wash here charges $8 for the cheapest option, and I always tip $2 for the towel dry, so if I were going to a car wash fundraiser, I'd donate $10, the same as I would normally pay for my car wash. BUT depending on the organization, I might donate more.

this is the formula I would use to decide on my donation as well.

When our middle school did a car wash, they did a car wash a thon. We got pledges per car, so if we did our normal 200 cars and someone pledge 10¢ per car they "owed"@$20. Of course we also accepted straight donations at pledge time & at the car wash.

Our middle school did a car wash last year and asked for $5 per car. We gave them $10. They didn't do the greatest job, but it was a fund-raiser so that's what matters.

Usually $10

Last year, dd's high school had a "car wash war" with another high school. The one with the highest amount took a percentage of the other's winnings.
