I want to try Soarin on our next trip, but I am a little nervous b/c MS made me so so sick last time at WDW. And I am usually fine on rides. Has anyone made it through Soarin, who had issue's w/ MS? :scared:

Hello

I'm not sure what it is about MS that made you sick but Soarin is a completely different attraction. I won't ride MS as I don't suffer from motion sickness but I can't stand being spun around or anything that goes upside down. On soarin you sit in a row on a "hand glider" with a lap bar and the glider is then lifted up in to the air and moves intime with a imax film so you feel like you're flying. If you are scared of heights ask a CM to seat you in the "bottom" row of seats as this only lifts about 3 feet off the ground

If you can do a Ferris Wheel, you can do Soarin'. That's about as much action as you are going to get. If the movie part feels to real, just look off to the side.

I wouldn't do M:S if you paid me, I know I can't do that kind of spinning.

I am prone to MS and I did get a bit dizzy towards the end of Soarin. It wasn't horrible, I won't ride any of the big motion sickness inducing rides like Star Tours, etc, but I LOVED Soarin. The thing to remember is if you feel sick, just close your eyes. My 8 y.o. DD is also prone to MS and she rode Soarin just fine. HTH.

I cannot do a Ferris Wheel, if you can believe that. The last time I tried, it was a small one at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. We moved one car back after boarding and I freaked. It was the longest five minutes of my life (and probably my husband's because anytime he even breathed, I freaked). My first ride on Soarin' was an adventure with that kind of reaction. But the second time was much better.

Mission:Space poses no problems for me. Go figure.

I don't do well on Ferris wheels either (or swings) I was ok on Soarin. If it was anylonger there might have been an issue. I also took motion sickness pills every morning to get through the rides.

I don't think you can exactly compare Soarin' to a ferris wheel. A ferris wheel goes 'round and 'round. Soarin just takes you up in the air and stops there. The front row goes about 45' in the air I guess. I think the best way to do it is to get on the last row of cars so you won't be as high in the air, and you can see peoples feet dangling above you which takes away some of the shock of the first row, where you do not see any feet {you are on top}. Went on with DS and Bil {DW just did not feel well that day} DS was terrified just looking at the mechanism of the ride. It is so huge, and you can see all the steel beams and gears that make up the ride, although you do not see this once the lights go out and the show starts. She tried to get off, but BiL told her it was too late once the CMs left the area after checking the safety belts. Once the ride started to go up and the movie started, she was thrilled, as we all where with the ride. Don't let it scare you, just go!
The best way to do it is to get on the last row of seats, buckle up, and close your eyes as the ride moves upward, and open them once it stops going up. {only takes about 5 seconds} Actually, they put the lights out before it starts, so you can't really tell how high up you are. Just remember, LAST ROW. Oh yea, they also turn the lights off at the end of the ride before it goes back down, once again, not really being able to see that you are up in the air. Go, and have a great time, it is one of the best rides at WDW. {I don't do thrill rides,by the way}

Which is why Leota said that if you can handle a ferris wheel, you can handle Soarin'....

But Soarin' DOES do a bit more than just take you up and stop; there is auxilliary movement throughout the ride.

It's an incredible ride!
1. I'm afraid of heights and unless you try to look, you'll never know how high you are. We were in the front row and really didn't feel "high"
2. I'll never go on MS. So :cheer2: for trying that ride!
3. It's probably my favorite ride now. I usually get motion sickness on these kind of movies (I couldn't watch polar express because it made me ill  ), but this one was fine.
4. Try it, it's an incredible show. One poster said that it moved after you went up. If it does, I didn't feel it. We were in the front row and we went up and then down at the end. Very slow, controlled. Nothing scary :teeth:

I can't do MS or Star Tours or even upside down coasters. I had no problem
at all with Soarin'. Soarin' is a fantasyland ride compared to MS. I think you will enjoy it!

I do get motion sick, but soarin' was fine! (MS made me sick, too) Soarin is completely different and a calm, fun ride.

As others have said, if you start too feel woosy just close your eyes. M:S and Soarin are very different rides. While both have motion simulation, soarin only tilts (slowly and smoothly) with the picture on the screen. However M:S is a centrfuge and is continually spinning at varying speeds and g-forces. In addition your capsule also tilt forward and backwards while spinning changing the g-forces direction on your body, which can be very intense for many people.

I hope this helps.

No comparison. MS is a violent, extreme ride. I did MS once (did not get sick) but it is not on my list to do again. I get woozy after Star Tours.

Soarin' is smooth and wonderful. Did it four times in September. Enjoy it!

Sorry if my Ferris Wheel comment was confusing. The reason I compared it to that is because of the feeling you get when your seat rises up into the air. It feels like the rising motion of a Ferris Wheel. I think Soarin' is much easier & calmer to do than even a Ferris Wheel - hence my comment that if you can handle a Ferris Wheel, you can handle Soarin'.
