Can't afford a gym membership so need to work out at home what worked for you?

Depending on what level you are at right now...

If you are very beginner, need to get motivated, I'll 4th (5th? 6th?) what a lot of others here have recommended and say Leslie Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds. If you have "on demand" with comcast cable, some of her programs are on that for free, too. Or try netflix or even your library. It is really great because you don't need to buy any equpiment to get started, and her moves are easy!

If you are looking to do some strength training, I really like Jari Love. I saw amazing results from using her videos, especially her earlier DVDS (my favorite is Ripped to the Core). For her videos you will need various dumbells (maybe start out with a set of 3#s, 5#s and 8#s--higher weights if you are more advanced).

I've also been doing Pauline Nordin's Butt Bible. The level 1 isn't too difficult, but level 2 is killer. I think it's even harder than level 3, level 3 is just longer :) Since I've completed the 6 week program, I've started this week with doing level 2 upper and lower on the same days, for an hour long workout. This week I'll be doing that 3 days per week, then cardio 3 days per week, and a day of rest.

I also use Comcast On demand to fill in any gaps, or to keep myself from getting bored with the same routine. I really like Kendall Hogan for 1/2 hour of cardio when I need variety.

I've tried the Firm in the past, but I'm not too big a fan. I'm very uncoordinated, and found some of their moves too complicated. Seriously, I would end up just standing there, staring at the tv trying to figure out what to do, and tripping over my own feet (dangerous!). Also, I'm not from the south, and found the women's accents a little annoying and distracting.

Off to do my Butt Bible!:woohoo:

You can mall walk which you can do year around. Walk in your neighborhood.

I have read several articles on metabolism and all stated that you need to eat more regularly and what you eat, more fruits and veggies, lean meat and fish, you can have potatoes and pasta, just eat less of this.
This has been really working for me. I have started eating more often and changing what I am eating and portion control. I have lost 5 pounds in 3 weeks, and I do not feel like I am missing anything and I feel better.
Here is what my plan is for today.

8:00 Yogurt/ juice
10:00 whole grain cereal/ milk
12:00 - Chicken salad sandwich w provolone cheese on whole wheat bread, with lettuce and tomato.
1:00 - carrot or celery sticks/ ranch dressing ( about 5 or 6)
2:30 - 1/2 apple or small banana -
4:00 - juice - 100% juice
5:30 - granola or nuts - check the salt content with the nuts.
7:00 - shrimp pasta - with broccoli and cauliflower - I will eat some pasta (small portion) but I will eat more broccoli and cauliflower - and some sliced tomatoes instead of garlic bread.
9:00 - 100% whole fruit bar - or dark chocolate

For women especially as we get older it's harder to lose weight. When you skip meals your body automatically began to store fat.
When you eat more often the body burns fats - thus calories. I really did not think that it was doing anything, but at 1st I noticed that my clothes are fitting better and I have much more energy to get out and go. I went home to see my family and 3 people asked me if I lost weight. I got on the scale and sure enough 5 pounds.

I do Leslie Sansone after the kids go to school. Fits in my schedule great and it's wonderful for midwest weather. No excuses! I'm working up to the 5 mile.

I recommend going to spark people dot com. It's a huge message board dedicated to healthy eating and fitness. You can read reviews on every excercise dvd out there, join forums, use their free exercise videos/demonstrations. You can use their planner who will do as much or little as you want. There are tons of recipes and many tools to use without costing you anything.

I own several DVDs and rotate them because I get bored. However, my favorite excersing only requires me to have a yoga mat and my 5 and 10 pound weights. Walking/jogging is free.

If you happen to have Comcast Digital, there is a Sports & Fitness - Exercise on demand.

I recently upped my subscription from basic to economy digital and was very happy to find this.

There is a walking channel that has alot of the Leslie Sansone 1, 2, or 3 mile programs.

M/W/F I do 2 mile and work out with free weights. T/Th/Sat I do 3 miles. Sunday is off, though I keep busy with yard work, etc.

I make an effort to make things less convenient...park far away at the store; keep the phone in the kitchen so I have to get up to answer, and I walk around if talking; I don't use the remote, I get up to change the channel; mow my own lawn with a push mower....it all adds up! :goodvibes

I run outside 4 days a week. I do the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD 2 to 3 days a week, on the days that I don't run.

Nothing....and I mean NOTHING worked for me until I bought one of Leslie Sansone's walking DVD's.

She's a great motivator, and her workout is easy and effective.

I have used these DVDs over the years and they are great! Everytime I used them and ate responsibly I have lost weight. I also use these free website for tracking, etc... which is similiar to weightwatchers - except free - www.myfitnesspal.com

Thanks to some of the suggestions I'm checking FIOS On Demand and the library for some Leslie Sansone and some of the other suggestions. I also ordered a second pair of new walking shoes. The ones from last summer are worn out although I haven't been doing much walking for exercise.

Cut down (not out but down) on sugar except for that in fruit. Eat cleaner carbs (brown rice, whole grains, etc), make sure you're getting enough protein. Losing weight is about 70% what you eat and 30% exercise. For indoor exercise, I recommend P90 or P90X. For outdoor exercise, I recommend the couch to 5k program.

I walk. Walking is free, well almost, you do need good shoes.
Watch what you eat.
If you have a Wii, get the Wii Fit.
Zumba DVDs are a good option also.

I have been checking out videos from the library. I am using Jillian Michaels 30 day shred right now and it is really good. The best part of using the library DVD is that you don't get bored of the same one over and over.

I workout to fitness dvds in my basement. I have over 100 different workouts. I've been collecting for years and it's fun to have so many to choose from, keeps me from getting bored. I have most of the workout videos already mentioned and they're all good but my favourite instructor is Cathe Freidreich. Her website is www.cathe.com

I can't afford a gym membership and need to work out at home to loose 20lbs. What worked for you? How long did it take? Any free weight loss sights like weight watchers? Help! Thanks :goodvibes

walking 3 miles every day- briskly. take up jogging. mow the lawn with a push mower. walk some dogs multiple times a day..... eat less high fat/cal. foods, expend more energy talking the stairs instead of the elevator.
take in less calories than you use daily.
all 100% free to utilize.

I also have the Wii,and love the fit games and just dance titles also. I'm thinking of buying the zumba title to get moving when it's raining.

I jog with my dogs, usually every day, for at least 30 minutes. I've lost over 30 lbs since June doing this. I supplement with a kettlebell workout for my arms 2 days per week and an abdominal routine I got from the 'net another 2 days.

I also eat smaller amounts, more frequently during the day. Like today, I had 2 hard boiled eggs and an apple at 6:30 am, and will have a protein bar now, and some veggies & hummus around one, then some grapes and yogurt around 3, dinner around 6:30, then nothing else for the rest of the day. Giving up evening snacks (any eating after dinner) has made a big difference, too, IMHO.

For those experienced couch 2 5 people. If you follow the directions, does it really work. I have a hard time running 1/4 mile without stopping. I am thinking of giving this a try. Any thoughts.

Not a dvd but The Dukan Diet (book on amazon) has worked for everyone I know. My sister lost 30, I lost the last 5 I needed to, coworkers lost, etc. Super easy to follow and your not starving.
