Cancellation

We have a reservation coming in May. we may not be able to make it due to medical issue. Should we cancel it before the 30 day window or if we wait to the last minute do we have any course of action because it may be a medical issue ?

If you think that you won't be able to vacation in May, I would cancel now. The cut off is 31 days not 30 to keep your points from going into holding.

Can you still bank the points?

If you purchase insurance, you might be able to get about $5 a point for the points you will lose.

The DVC insurance now reimburses your dues cost for the points rather than a flat amount. If your reservation includes banked or borrowed points, you have to pay for the insurance for each use year ($79 per use year I believe).

There is no written course of action for a medical issue so if you are concerned I would not wait and test the possibilities. My mother passed away before a trip and the funeral was the day after we were supposed to go to WDW. My points were put in holding and the CM hoped I'd have a magical day.

You should rent them out to someone and make money rather than let them go to holding. You can then just use the money and rent points from someone else. The May time is pretty much full now and a reservation could be rented for a decent amount.
