Cancel and re-book possible for rate changes?

At Disney resorts, it seems like practically common practice to book a room, then if there are discounts that come up, you can rebook under the new lower rate (assuming the room you're looking for is available).

Can you do the same thing at Universal? I'm thinking of booking a Savvy Traveler rate now, to make sure I get something, with the hope that maybe there will an AP rate worth grabbing later. But if no AP rates come out, then I won't be locked out if the ST rate is no longer available. Does that make sense?

I do this all the time. I book the ST rate and wait for AP rates to come out. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. Booking ST now guarantees your reservation and you may get lucky with a lower AP rate when/if they're available.

I do this too, book Savy traveller then stalk website for AP. But don’t cancel res, just modify so you can still use the same down payment. Unless you’re changing hotel, then you may have to cancel & rebook. And put new down payment and wait for refund. But ask first if you can modify res. before you cancel.
