OHHHHH I am feeling guilty right now. I should have gone to sleep but instead I ate a COOKIE:scared1: I promise to drink more water tomorrow and I will do the hour work out again.:yay:

I think Sunday weigh is are a great idea. We are currently doing that right know. I have been trying to lose weight before I leave next Saturday for two weeks at WDW and the Dining Plan. Currenly I have lost 10 pounds since June. My weight is not suppose to go past 120, do to a hip problem (I gained 7 pounds over the winter). However I am trying to get down to 115 so I dont feel guilty about eating what ever I want on holiday. I have 2 pounds to go.

The one thing I have found to help myself in trying to lose weight and keep it off for the past 3 years is eat in moderation. Dont cut out the sweets or anything you like. I have a very big sweet tooth and love my chocolate. I will have a choclate bar or even desert with supper once or twice a week. I just make sure I dont go over my calories for the day. Currently I use 1200 -1500 Calories per day. The one thing I was told is to write down everything you eat. You soon discover you are eating more than you really think your are (when you are making supper every time you taste the food you are making, your eating calories you never thought about). Also measure or weigh your food, look at the back of the package for the calories and use that as a guide line. (For and example 1 tbsp of salad dressing is anywhere from 25 - 60 calories)

Sandra, thanks for the idea of yoga. I am going to look into that.

Good morning folks:
First, I want to thank those of you who responded to my thread. I appreciate your concern. Yes, the herniated discs are very painful but I know that if I don't continue moving, I will only get worse. I also know that, if I don't start taking care of my body, I will regret it when i'm older. I'm 33 years old and have struggled with weight issues all my life. The disc problem was mostly caused by heredity but I know the excess weight is not helping. My husband and I want to have a child so I feel like I really have no choice but the get some weight off. I do have a suggestion to throw out to the forum that I hope will help: back in March, I found this amazing weightloss website called "Sparkpeople". It's totally free and gives you nutrition info (how many cals/day, amt of exercise/day) that should help you lose weight. Since March i've lost 24 lbs just by tracking my calories online and getting a little exercise. It sends you really helpful emails and has a wide range of tools available to help in the weightloss struggle. If you want to check it out for yourself, go to their website (google Sparkpeople and you will find it). I am in no way affiliated with the website; just a user who has found it very helpful to me. Now, I just have to get back on the program and fire up my weight loss once again. I have reached a plateau and realize that I have to start working harder.
We can all do this! There is strength in numbers. Have great weekend :thumbsup2

Can I join in too?
I need to lose 20lbs and am really struggling with it. I eat healthy and exercise but the weight is just not moving. Yesterday I thought it was starting to. I was down a pound and a half, but then this morning it was back up 3 pounds.

I will have to check that place out. It is free which is even better. I have a hard time paying for weight loss programs when they are simply telling me what I already know, eat balanced nutritional meals and exercise regularly. I know that joining these programs really help some people as it adds a level of accountability but I just can't see myself parting with the money. I would rather take the money I would spend on that and join a gym.

Welcome to our group! Don't get discouraged! Perhaps you have simply hit a plateau and need to switch up/intensify your exercise routine?

Thanks. Exercise might be what the problem is. When I was trainning for The Weekend To End Breast Cancer I was walking between 60-75km a week. That was from January to May. The walk was the first weekend in June and since then my walking has decreased. I still walking but I am only doing about 40-50km a week now. My walking partner is not walking any more so I am finding it hard to get motivated to walk on my own.

Can I join in too. I have six kids, I'm still nursing the youngest at 15 months. I used WW to get my weight down after number four but became pregnant with number five before I reached my goal weight. I'm 173 lbs and want to lose 30 to 35 lbs. I find it very difficult to invest the time to myself in order to do this but I know that this is VERY important. Earlier this year I had an abnormal echocardiogram and after seeing a cardiologist he said that it was what he would expect form someone with my history and that it wasn't much to worry about. That being said it made me realize how irresponsible I'm being carrying this extra weight, I've already had open heart surgery (for a congential defect at the age of five). So I've been given a second chance already and should be doing everything in my power to take care of myself. That being said I just can't seem to bring myself to make the long term changes that I need to.

I'm glad I stumbled upon this thread and hope that this will provide me with the inspiration and support I need to do this. I've tried starting WW at home a couple of times since the baby but without my DH on board I never seem to stick to it.

So now my goal is to lose 10lbs by our vacation (it always come off quick at the start) and 30 lbs by Christmas. I plan on doing this by excercising more (stairs, stairs stairs) and tracking points. I will take the time to do this because my health is one of the best things I can do for my children.

If anyone has some healthy baking ideas it would be great also!

When your baking you can subsitute the fat measure for measure with applesauce. I do this when baking muffins, cakes, squares and it makes them good and moist.

I woke up this morning and I really didn't feel like getting on my treadmill or doing my workout videos but then I read through some of the messages on the board and I thought I'd better get going!

I like the idea of the weekly weigh-in. I usually weigh-in on Friday but I'll post on Sunday.

Thanks Mel! It's a sloooooow process, at least that's what it feels like. But then I think about it and remember that I didn't gain all of this weight in just a couple of days or weeks so it's probably not realistic to lose it that quickly either :goodvibes

I usually weigh myself once a week. When I was getting on the scale everyday, I noticed that my weight fluctuated a lot between days and it felt discouraging to me. Sometimes water retention or the foods you eat can temporarily cause your weight to go up ... or not going to the bathroom (sorry to be gross).

Wow six kids, you sure have your hands full. You are absolutely right though, the best thing you could ever do for your kids is to make sure that you are in good health because they are going to want you around for a very long time. I am sure that if you keep yourself motivated which this group should help with you will be able to take that extra weight of easily!

Leaving for the WORLD tomorrow!! Hope I can control myself enough to just MAINTAIN my weight during the week. Even if I gain 1-3 lbs., I'll be ok; I just don't want to come back 5+ lbs. heavier. I have lost a lot of weight since Nov. and I still have about 40 lbs. to go. I plan on drinking LOTS of water, as I do at home, and walking every morning with my daughter(s). I'll get back in touch next week. So happy to be joining all of you; good luck this week!

Have a great trip! When I went to the World last month I thought for sure I was going to gain weight since we were on the dining plan but I was happily surprised to find out that I stayed at my pre-trip weight. I guess all that walking and swimming balanced out all the extra food I was consuming. Either way don't sweat it too much, you are on vacation!

Thanks so much! We are also on the DP, but I hope to balance the food out with the swimming and walking as well. I'll let you know how I do (good or bad)!

Hey everyone....happy to see so much support for this. I am happpy that so many people want to join this quest of ours to live a healthier and better balanced life!

My tip for the day....Eat 5-6 small meals a day....keeping that belly full prevents you from grazing and snacking on empty calories.

Ok - weigh in tomorrow!!! I look forward to losing weight with all of you!

Joline

Hey - I need a butter substitute of sort....Whenever I cook veggies, I automatically put butter/margarine on them. Trying to cut out some of the fats that I am eating, what can I use instead??? Any advice??

LOVE the applesauce tip!

I was very bad today:guilty: My mom and I went out shopping and ended up having pizza for lunch. I had a bunch of breadsticks and then 3 slices of pizza. At least the pizza was thin crust and the toppings were veggies and chicken so that makes me feel a bit better about it. I am going to have to really exercise tonight to work off some of those calories.:headache:

I am not overweight but am close to 40 and starting to get a little flabby. I haven't exercised in 18 years but due to this thread, I started a few days ago, to try and tone up.

This is what I am doing daily:
10-15 kms on an exercise bike (takes 20-25 minutes)
50 crunchies
100 leg lifts

drinking eight glasses of water (mostly before meals and in the evening).

I am a pretty active person (kayaking, yoga, hiking etc). so adding this to my daily routine feels like nothing. I am going to try and double what I am doing daily in the next week and see how that feels.

My goal is to be able to do the Terry Fox Marathon next month with DD10. At this point I will probably be a spectator but would like to be able to do it with her.

Any suggestions? This is all new to me.

Go to any Running Room store...they have a great book by John Staton called "Running start to finish". It's a book for all running classes, from learning to run 1 km to finishing a marathon. It goes through everything from stretching, simple exercises for weight training, and clothing, etc. I love this book and follow it very closely when training.

Welcome to the weight loss club!
