Vancouver ….

We arrived late evening and this was the best hotel so far, so much more luxurious than the previous one, and the staff were truly excellent. I managed to lock the passports in the safe but didn't read the instructions properly ! But after one call they were up from the front desk and sorted it.

Molton Brown toiletries, mini bar, air conditioning, lovely bed, room smelled nice and airy, décor was the way I liked it, it was my kind of place. We dropped the cases off, and popped across the road to the Pacific Mall, found the food court and got the chinese meal again! Walked round some of the streets for a bit, found the 7-11 and got some milk, back to the room, and bed by 8.30! We were now 8 hours behind UK time.

Next morning, up and down for breakfast, very posh restaurant, breakfast to a certain value was included, so you just paid the extra. I had usual scrambled eggs etc, the wife the same with back bacon. Both were cooked to perfection. Then out the door into Vancouver !

We knew the Star Trek convention was on so we wandered up to the hotel where it was, big wide streets, tall sky scrapers, like Toronto, found the convention but not much was happening so we continued on south to False Creek.

Downtown Vancouver is surrounded on 3 sides (north, west and south) by the sea. South is False Creek, north is Burrard Inlet, West is out to Stanley Park and the ocean.

We reached the bridges from downtown which would take you over to South Van, and continued up the west towards English Bay, still on the downtown peninsula, the water front views were superb, and all around this area Vancouver had built a path so you could cycle or walk around the entire peninsula, it was a great thing to have done.

So we walked up on this path to English Bay, admiring the stunning views, the beach, and then wandered into Stanley Park.

Stanley Park is a large urban park but it has a sea wall path that goes around its exterior, and its got things to do inside, such as totem poles to visit, aquarium, various gardens, cricket fields. There was no way we could walk all the way round, so we came back out, and got on one of those trolley buses. This took us around the top half of the city and it toured Stanley park.

We eventually got off where we got on and went to a restaurant called Milestones for lunch. We sat on the veranda admiring the view of English Bay.

We then got the trolley bus again, but back to the north shore where Canada Place is.

Canada place is Vancouver's cruise ship terminal, and convention centre, but it was built out into the inlet and you could wander around it. It for me was brilliant, you could see all the ships, sea planes kept coming into land, the view of the city on the north shore, with the mountains was excellent, and it had a great west coast laid back atmosphere, we sat down and soaked it all up.

I loved it, loved the fact that something was always happening, loved the sea, the views, its compactness, the friendly people, Stanley Park, and everyone cycled around on bikes, which I loved, as I cycle to work every day on horrible british roads, and here was an oasis for cyclists. I just wanted my bike here so I could cycle around the path around the city, I could not think of anything better. Great weather, great food, clean city, very cosmopolitan.

The cyclists dream cycle path ....

Truly brilliant place and so well looked after. I just loved it. At about 7 pm, we were back at the hotel, so we sat in the bar had a few beers and a burger, and chilled out. We were knackered it had been a very long day!
