Canada Day 2

We were up at 4.30 ! but had slept like babies! We had the new mobile phone but we could not send a text but we thought we had the right number, so after getting dressed, we wandered down to the hotel reception, where they helped us out, and we had the wrong country code. Once that was sorted, our daughter replied and the wife was a hell of a lot happier.

So thumbs up to the hotel staff. Back to the room, watched some TV until 7 am when breakfast was ready. Canadian TV was very good, the news showed news from all over the world, not just Canada, and when we started to read the news papers we found they were very worldly wise. England made it to the front of the sports pages, which I thought was nice. I had always thought that when your at Disney english news was harder to come by.

Breakfast was excellent, 3 plates of buffet, but it was a real posh one ! They actually had back bacon, and hash browns like at McDonalds. As I was holiday, I finished it all off with 7 croissants. I was very hungry.

We waited around the lobby for our pickup, he was 10 minutes late due to some problem at an earlier hotel, but on to the bus and then the drive to Niagara.

Drive is about 2 hours all in all, but the driver informed of lots of Canadian info as we drove up there. The influence of the British on Canada is mind blowing, something I had never erally appreciated.

Great weather again, and first stop is the whirlpool which is at the other end of the falls, but its where water turns a right hand corner and has some unique things about which I can't remember !

Nice gift shop here where they sold postcards with the postage already paid and stamped on, so we got some of those and an ice cream.

The drive to falls was nice and the area was much better landscaped than I had imagined, as some people had said it was tatty because its so touristy, but these people have never been to some of the English sea side towns.

First stop was Main of the Mist. Great experience to go so close to the falls, and a real fun event. The pictures don't do it justice!

Once we had done that we were taken to a restaurant and lunch was provided as part of the tour, but the restaurant had a great view of the falls while you ate your lunch. Basic but good lunch, and I had the wifes desert as well as my own, as she hates Maple Syrup. After this we were free to wander around the falls for an hour or so.

We walked to the point where the water goes over the edge, and when you get there your hypnotised by it. You just keep watching the water go over, its really strange to explain, but I captured over 5 mins of HD video without even knowing. You also get an urge to jump in as the water looks so cool and your so hot. The wife later told me she thought it would have been great to jump in.

Tried one of the face book type photo's !:rotfl2:

Back on the coach, and a drive to some lovely gardens and then onto Niagara on the Lake, a lovely town just up the road. Very touristy but lovely, it reminded me of Celebration, crossed with Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast. Very peaceful, and lovely to stroll around with another ice cream !

We bought ourselves some penguin salt and pepper pots too. Back on the coach, and then onto a winery for some wine tasting, which pleased the wife ! And then back to Toronto, round 7 pm.
Long day but excellent day too. It was great to finally see the falls, something I had wanted to see for ages.

Back in the hotel and it finally reminded me that the décor in the lobby and the smell reminded me of Epcot, the Land Pavilion especially and that 70' style of architecture. We went back to the 7-11 and got a hot dog, more milk and then back to the room and bed !

I was enjoying myself, but I was looking forward to moving onto Bannf. Not exactly bored, but with no car your were a bit more limited. Where as in Florida in the evenings we would wander around shops, or nip out for a drive around etc, but we did not really have that option, and I was tired from walking today.

Good job on the report and the photos illustrating it. Especially glad to see that you managed to get shots of the two of you together. It's so easy to get to the end of a vacation before realizing that you've only taken photos of each other making your photo album look like you were on separate vacations.

WOW .... I so want to visit Niagara Falls .. it sounds amazing. Your photos are really stunning ... it doea make you want to jump in :confused3
DH is impressed by the 7 croissants !

your report today & photos brought back memories of our holiday - we even did the horse & carriage ride at Niagra on the Lake. Sounds like you're having a great time :goodvibes

Lovely pictures of Niagara Falls - what a great experience

Like Mrs Doubtfire, your pics bring back fantastic memories of visiting Niagara Falls some years ago - I wonder whether most people get the urge to jump in when you stand at the point where the water rushes over the falls - I know we did as well!
I have to say how impressed I am at you eating SEVEN croissants for breakfast followed by two desserts at lunch!! :scared1:

LOL Unfortunately I have a monster appetite, which is Why I was 18 stone 18 months ago, but I cycle to work everyday now, 17 miles each way which helps keep it off. Now down to 13, but the holiday was great to let the 'monster' be unleashed.

I can't even comment on the falls as I'm still in shock by the 7 croissants
