I have been buying inexpensive disney stuff here at home that i plan on bringing with us on our trip so that we don't spend a fortune when we are down there. I want to wrap the gifts though b/c it is more fun for my kids to open that way (instead of just handing them an unwrapped gift)... can i wrap them and pack them or is that not allowed anymore... i'd hate to have to pack them unwrapped and bring wrapping paper with me....

anyone know?

thanks!

get a sturdier box and wrap the top separate from the bottom.

If you wrap your gift and TSA needs to look at what has been wrapped for any reason, they can and WILL unwrap your packaging. The TSA web site has, for years, recommended that you take all wrapping materials with you and wrap once you've reached your destination.

I work for TSA.

Yes you can......but don't be surprised if you luggage is torn apart.

Don't bother wrapping them. My inlaws tried to bring some toys to my kids thru security at MSP. They were wrapped and they had to unwrap them. When they got to our place, I just gave them new wrapping paper and they redid the gifts.

Put them in your suitcase unwrapped, pack some flat folded wrapping paper (enough for them all) and scotch tape and get someone to take the kids to the pool without you while you wrap them up.

It's much less hassle.

I just flew during Thanksgiving and had 2 luggage full of wrapped gifts. I did check those 2 bags, but nothing was said and they were fully wrapped when I got home.

How about in carry-ons? DD is getting a camera for Christmas that we're giving to her early for our trip, and I would love to have it wrapped and ready to sneak into the room to surprise her with.

I've done wrapped Tink gifts twice this year in the checked baggage with no problems.

Just because one didn't personally have an issue doesn't mean that others won't.

The only poster I would listen to is the TSA official who has posted, and the TSA website, if flying domestically in America. Sadly, while she could be such a valuable resource for this website, her chosen profession means that many do not value her information.

i've heard of people wrapping gifts but leaving one end open so the item could be inspected if needed without destroying the wrapping. i imagine it would depend on the mood of the tsa agent who is inspecting at the time but that sounds like it might be a safer bet? what about gift bags? they can easily be reassembled if inspection is required. that's what we plan to do on our trip. we are traveling with our bff's and intentionally giving xmas gifts to their kids on the flights, for the flights. :)

I didn't have a problem flying with several birthday gifts for my nephew. That obviously doesn't mean you won't have a problem. I did try to take a couple of the wrapped gifts into MK on my nephew's birthday to keep him occupied while we were waiting for our food at CRT. We were allowed to take them in, but it was under protest. Just a heads up, if you do choose to take wrapped gifts and get past airport security, you might want to open the gifts in the room.
