Not sure where to post this.

You can go to the dvc member website. Will try to link. I was surprised not to see it here already. if someone posted. My apologies and remove.

Very interesting.

Should have titled it - More options w/Disney Collection

While I appreciate DVC adding options, I can't see paying such high point costs for a room.

I feel like you would be better off renting out your points and then paying cash for a room.

why in the world would anyone use those # of points to stay at a value resort?

It's basically the same number of points for an AoA family suite as an OKW 2BR
While the OKW 2BR is generally nicer (AoA suites have 2 full bathrooms, too) it might be a nice option for a family of 6 if all DVC rooms are booked.

AoA also has a very nice counter service and, argueably, a nicer pool than some DVC's.

Counter service is ok, the pool isn't great, the scenery is lovely but the resort is over crowded and chaotic, beds are far better at OKW, personally I'd rather rent my points than use them to stay there but that's just me.

There also isn't any mention of the Rule of 4 being suspended, so that should still be in play with these point usages.

If the Rule of 4 applies, no help for a last minute booking if one can't get a room at a DVC resort.

Good if one uses points for a cruise and cancels.

Maybe DVD wants more locations added to their "places where owners can use their points" list. It's all about sales and marketing.

Rule of 4 is the last 4 months of your use year, so 8 months of the year you can book "last minute before your trip" I believe

I agree with you Bill. It is just one more way when they are courting buyers in the parks to say that "look at what you can still do".

And, I do know the points are high and I doubt that I would ever book those options, BUT...say down the road, when I have points that I know I am not going to use that year-- I could decide to splurge and book a concierge room when it's only me and hubby traveling, and I have to use or lose points.

Granted, the ones at the Contemporary are more than some 2 bedrooms, so it'd be hard to stomach, so in reality, it'd probably not happen--but then again, I didn't think I'd ever use them for a cruise and I did for this summer--things changed, was going to use points anyway so traded in...as my students say, it was easy peezy, lemon squeezy!

Could be the same for some of the new options!! :rotfl2:

My wife and I have been talking about spending a night at AoA for my son but the points are so high I will more than likely just rent some points out.

I like the concierge option. Yes, a lot of points, but WL concierge has been something we are interested in.:goodvibes

With a March UY, I would be able to book WL concierge for a December stay if I book it early enough. That is correct, right? I want to add it on to our VGF stay this December. What a great stay for DH & me!

Just a reminder - These new options may not be booked with resale points acquired after March 11, 2011. The fine print:

Effective, March 21, 2011, Members who do not purchase their ownership interests directly from Disney will not be able to use those vacation points for the Disney Collection

I have converted my DVC points to regular rooms in the past for 2 reasons. One is because there were no DVC room available and we needed a room for one night to complete a trip, so we booked the Poly for a night. The other is for a conference that my wife goes to each year which is held at Coronado Springs. It is much more convenient for her to stay right there and walk to the conference. She will usually take a few people with her and everyone has a nice time.

I was psyched about the options but the point cost definitely puts them in an emergencies only category. Would definitely rent points out & book for cash in normal, planned circumstances.

I also think it benefits the resorts, because they sell the DVC rooms for cash too. If they shuffle members to the hotels at a high point cost, they free up the equivalent reservations at a DVC resort which generally but not always cost more (cash equivalent) as the value of the points. 123 pts for a memorial day stay, rental cash value of $1476 for the points at 12/pt, $1346.64 rack rate. If Disney sells those points to DVC'ers as one time use points, they would do so at $15/pt I think-- $1845. For 121 points you could get a 2BR at SSR or OKW for the same stay; rack rate is $2504.25

So basically--you use your 123 points on a vacation that rack rates at $1346.64, they can free up $2504.25 rack rate worth of villas to sell. Profit for one or more subsidiaries: $1157.61.

For the kids!!! I was just looking at pictures the other day of my daughters hugging the dalmations at All Star Movies and remembered how excited they were to be in those rooms!!! They loved the decor and it was magical to them. If things stay as is, it will be really nice to have AofA available for any future grandkids.

We generally travel during Christmas week at very high point cost for a 2 bedroom theme park view at BLT. For grandkids, I would sacrifice a similar number of points for a family suite at AofA in a heartbeat. At least we still have 2 bathrooms!!

I am not thrilled about renting out my points so this is a nice alternative to have available.

I agree with you.. We love the themeing in value hotels and the food court has better choices for picky eaters, but we hate pretty much everything else..
For us it would be emergency use of points or if the kids really wanted to stay there.

I I wouldn't mind using them for DL tho.. It's impossible to get a GCV, and having the option is nice.
